The Color Purple
"The effects a fathers have on children can include later-life, educational, social, and family outcomes." The father's influence affects how good or bad a child's life will be later on. The Color Purple is about Celie's life and experiences, she was married to a man who physically and verbally abused her. She meets new women; Sofia, Shug, And Squeak who become her friends later on when they all started to connect and learn love through each other. Celie also connects back to her sister Nettie through letters and she begun to stand up for herself. Alice Walker showed examples how young men are influenced by their fathers will learn how to be a man in the household and follow after their footsteps.
In the book, the Color Purple, society back then was set up where whites had more power than African Americans. Whites influenced African Americans that working for them is the right way and to respect them at all times no matter the situation and everything will be alright for them. Harpo was sort of little different from his father, when he met Sofia he loved her for who she was and wanted to marry her, but his father disagreed.
