“No change can come if those who are impacted the most by discrimination are not willing to stand up for themselves” (Zainab Salbi). In the novella Of Mice Of Men, written by John Steinbeck the idea of discrimination came through racism,sexism,and preys on those with mental and physical disabilities. Steinbeck introduces us to characters who face constant discrimination. Crooks, the stable buck is black; Lennie a huge migrant worker is mentally disabled, & Candy faces discrimination despite being kind because he is old & physically disabled. John Steinbeck uses the theme of discrimination throughout the book Of Mice Of Men to illustrate the injustices inflicted upon people with mental and physical disabilities, the elderly and people of different races. …show more content…

Crooks was treated completely over skin color and he was going crazy living our with the Mules and Horses. He was talking completely pessimistic about completely everything to Lennie about George because he was going crazy, Crooks was angry that they segregated him completely and all he wanted to do was talk to everyone and play cards. They made him read books for fun, he talked to Lennie like he was a crazy old idiot. He finally had somebody to talk to but he was rude to him, he was telling Lennie that George wasn’t going to come back and he left you here on the farm. Crooks was lonely he said, “A guy goes nuts if he ain’t got nobody don’t make a difference who the guy is, long’s he’s with you,” (72).
