How Does Snowball Use The Abuse Of Power In Animal Farm

When Major, the leader of the animals dies, Snowball and Napoleon take charge of the farm renaming it Animal Farm. While Snowball has the more level approach to ruling the farm,
Napoleon has wanted power over the farm for awhile and will do anything to keep it. He takes Jessie and Bluebells newborn puppies and trains them for the main aspect of his fear campaign. He teaches them to do what is right for the farm and to only think about the Animal Farm’s future. He uses the puppies to eliminate his nemesis. Snowball comes up with the idea for a windmill on the farm, Napoleon opposes it and uses his trained dogs to chase Snowball off the farm. With Snowball gone, Napoleon declares himself the ruler of the farm. “They dashed straight for Snowball… he slipped through the fence and was seen no more. Soon after building the windmill, it falls and Napoleon blames Snowball for its destruction. Some of the animals sympathize with Snowball, saying that there was no way he could have pushed it over. Napoleon becomes angry, purging the farm, killing anyone who he accuses of allying with Snowball. After he did so, animals questioned his tactics only for Napoleon to ask the animals, “Surely comrades, you would not want Jones back? (Orwell, pg. 67 Chap. 6)” By saying this rhetorical question, the animals would not question what it was that Jones had done that was worse than Napoleon, and they would just get back to doing their work.
