Girls are still going thru Sexism on a daily basis. Girls that 10 and 40 faces it daily and everywhere they go. Sexism is defined as women are not equal to men, this issue still exists today in the life of many girls and women. This issue can be seen in the gender wage gap, work, and schools. Some may say that it's not an issue because men say that women and men work at the same jobs. One reason Sexism exists in modern society os the gender wage gap. The wage gap has been happening for a while now with men and women that have the same jobs but they get paid differently for example, ” women in the United States make 78 cents for every dollar a men's median weekly full-time earning is 82.5% [for blacks and Hispanics] and it does matter if a woman eventually makes it to a C-Suire office.” (Rogers,1). Women who have the same jobs that get pay less than here male coworker is not right that 78 cents mean a lot especially in money wise, women should be pay equal to her male coworker; this right here is Sexism and this needs to stop. …show more content…

The fact of the matter is that gender roles, although not as prominent as they once were, still have a heavy impact on how society’s functions are dispersed and divided up. There is no denying that a double standard and gender roles were once how everything was decided, but what some deny is that there is not a way to overcome them. For instance, the argument of women getting paid less than men for the same occupation is totally illogical because if women get paid less than men for the same job, wouldn’t large companies just hire women if they could pay them less and still get equal work? Whereas in recent decades major strides toward gender equality have been made, sociologists are quick to point out that much remains to be done if inequalities in the United States are ever to be eliminated. Behind much of the inequalities seen in education, the workplace, and politics is sexism, or prejudice and discrimination because of gender. Fundamental to sexism is the assumption that men are superior to women.
First of all, the gender pay is a real problem in the world, despite what many think. According to the Cambridge Dictionary, the gender pay gap is “the difference between the amounts of money paid to women and men, often for doing the same work”. This is important because many people think that the gender wage gap does not exist, even though it clearly does. Another reason why this is important is because many people argue that the gender wage gap exists because women have lesser-paying jobs, when a lot of the time it happens between men and women working the same job. Many people do not realize what the gender pay gap actually is, and they form an opinion of it before they know what it really is.
The gender pay gap is the biggest unspoken problem in America. This issue has been in the world since the dawn of time, but people only started paying attention to it in the last 80 years. In order to close this gap for good, we have to look at where it began. Society tries hard to make the wage gap seem like it does not exist, or that it only exists because of circumstances beyond anyone’s control. When in fact, there is no excuse as to why a woman should ever be paid less than man when they do the same job with the same amount of effort. In modern america sexism is slowly diteriating, but it has not complitly disappeared. Women have worked hard to become astronaut, Ceos, presidentsdoctors and more, but even with these accomplishments women are still discriminated against. When a woman buys a cup of coffee at the coffee shop did it ever occur that she is spending more of her money than the man next to her? It's not because the coffee shop is sexist, or she bought something more expensive. It is because of a thing called wage inequality, and this thing happens most between men and women, even when society tries to stop it. Wage inequality negatively affects women in America. This changes how people perceive the ideas of women's living. For example the way confidence affects the way women get jobs, or the whether or not she lives with children, or if she is married. On an article called “5 charts show how much more men make than women,” which was published on March 8, 2017 on Buisnessinsider.com, clarifies the wage gap that separates men and women, evidence from the article is, “Today, on average, a woman earns 79 cents for every dollar a man earns, and women’s median annual earnings are $10,800 less than men’s, according to a report released by the Senate Joint Economic Committee Democratic Staff last April.” Further into the article it says, “The average gender pay gap in the United States is around 21%, meaning that, on average, a woman earns 21% less than her male counterpart.” The excerpts from the article gives direct information on specific statistics on the inequality between men and women, moreover it brings to attention for the reader an idea of how unjust people treat each other, and since money is what drives the world it’s unfair for others to be blocked from those necessities.

When the wage gap between women and men first became apparent, the issue primarily centered around discrimination against women as the “weaker sex”, a social stereotype. Today the issue has become more complex, involving American cultural norms and politics, and concerns that there are glass ceilings within businesses for women. As a result, many people are indecisive when it comes to taking a position on the matter while others are adamantly entrenched in their mind set. The fact of the matter is that women’s wages should match men’s wages whenever performance of duty is equal. The issue is that there should be equal pay for equal work.
