How Does Lee Show Scout Being Courageous

People in the world are affected by the environment and their surrounding to react to them. Many characters in the book To Kill a Mockingbird reflect to this. People will respond to being courageous or be a coward when they need to be and they will all react differently. Scout shows courage when she fights Cecil Jacobs. She doesn’t fight like she normally would because she doesn’t want to stoop to the low level where Cecil Jacobs is. She shows cowardice when she decides to stand still when Bob had attacked Jem. In Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, the author uses conflict, plot events, and character development to convey the idea that people can be courageous or a coward when they need to be and their reactions will be different to each problem. …show more content…

The author states that, “He didn’t forget his lunch, he didn’t have any. He had none today nor would he have any tomorrow or the next day. He had probably never seen three quarters together at the same time in his life” (Lee 22). This shows that Scout is being courageous when she stands up for her Walter because he is shy to speak up for his own. Scout shows her courage during the time of a conflict between Walter Cunningham and Miss Caroline. She shows her courage many time in the book during the time when conflicts happen. Scout is being protective towards Walter because she knows that he is a Cunningham and he would not be able to pay Miss Caroline back. Also, this act by Scout is courageous because she stands up to a teacher which is two or three time older than her to speak up for her friend. This shows that Scout cares more about her friends than her teachers or some random strangers. She is sometimes also cowardice and does not always have to be courageous because being a human means you have to be courageous and
