How Does Bilbo Change In The Hobbit

Decent Essays

Throughout the entire book, The Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins changes pretty drastically. Even though he does not like to travel, he went through an adventure, introducing a whole new world to him. In the beginning of the book Bilbo was described as someone who enjoys just walking around his peaceful, small little home, with his pipe and his food he loves so much. He would rather have other people come see him and he suggested “ I don’t want any adventures, thank you. Not Today. Good morning! But please come to tea – any time you like! Why not tomorrow? But Bilbo Baggins quickly changed that and proved he has more self-confidence as his encounter with Gollum …show more content…

Now why couldn’t it have been this side!” After getting past the stream, Bilbo took action of climbing a tree to see when the long never-ending forest ends... but he had no luck. Bilbo was failing at "leading". Days later the group got themselves mixed up in a sticky situation, "the great spider, who had been busy tying him up while he dozed, came from behind him and came at him. He could only see the thing’s eyes, but he could feel its hairy legs as it struggled to wind its abominable threads round and round him" (58). Bilbo had to think fast and use his magical ring to save himself and the others. Once Bilbo freed himself, with some difficulty, he felt much more brave. After a while when Bilbo "felt that he could not lift his hand for a single stroke more, the spiders suddenly gave it up, and followed them no more, but went back disappointed to their dark colony" (61). Bilbo was seen as the hero and was loyal to his new group of friends, for helping save
