The main theme in this short story relates to the world we are living in today. The theme is striving for perfection. In the novel, Georgiana is trying to fix her flaw just to please her husband Aylmer. Aylmer is being really unfair shaming her for something she is born with, why would you work against nature? This conflict ties into Man vs Nature because Aylmer is working against something that is created naturally; Georgiana and her birthmark. He is being ridiculously selfish by putting his own needs before hers, thus resulting in her death. I feel as if Aylmer felt relieved when Georgiana died, he felt as if he didn’t have to look and “deal” with her imperfection anymore. Even in the society we live in today, we strive to look like someone else. The pressure definitely comes from others and the society we live in, I feel the only reason we look in the mirrors and dislike something about us is because we have an unrealistic image of what we want to look like. I think Georgiana was mostly influenced by her husband which showed how feminism was portrayed noticeably in this story. She is obviously the submissive within the relationship because she obeys Aylmer’s every command and bases her self worth off his opinions. It’s hard to believe that females were ever in that position because our society in this current generation shows how independent and strong we are. In the story, there was a section explaining about how Georgiana was reading through Aylmer’s books. I think this is a symbol and represents inequality and the male dominant as it describes
