There are various harmful and helpful discoveries all over the world. Though a number of these were created to hurt instead of help, many people look to the invention before looking to the mind of a human. For instance, drugs are used to cure people, while others treat them as an addiction. Similarly, weapons are used either to kill or protect. Good people choose good, while evil people make poor choices. Inventions overall improve our world; however, some people handle them as a detriment.
The most frequently used, harmful, and dangerous weapon across the world is the Automatic Rifle, which was created in 1887 by General Manuel Mondragon. These powerful weapons were previously used in the military after generals discovered the horrific demolition it could cause. Tracing all the way back to its descendants, the AK-47, the M16A1, and the M-14, these rifles are self-loading and capable of delivering fully-automatic, deadly weapon fire. Consequently, this weapon is

Drugs are harmful, dangerous, and addictive, and there are many different kinds of them. Drugs are not just common in America, but all around the world today. Being more popular than alcohol and Vape, drugs affect the brain, causing its consumers to be unaware and completely unable to think or process things normally. Drug abuse, not only affecting its consumers greatly, hurt their friends, families, and children and cause millions of deaths every year. In America, drug abuse causes four thousand seven hundred and ninety deaths per year, and eighty-five thousand five hundred and eighty-four deaths are caused by drug abuse in the world alone. Unfortunately, the number of drug abusers and consumers are increasing by the year, and the number of lives lost because of this invention is immeasurable. Like all addictions, drug dealing is common, destructive, and leaves bitter consequences to the consumer and the world around
Drugs kill many people every day. Drugs overdose, whether illegal or prescription, kills more people than car accidents or guns. Most people who try to pursue you to do illegal drugs tell you that they will make you feel better, when really all they are doing is hurting you and ruining your future. Not only do drugs harm you, but it also hurts America’s Finances. As of 2002, the economic cost of drugs abuse in the United States was $180.9 billion dollars.
Humans have used weapons in warfare, hunting, law enforcement, and criminal activity for thousands of years. Weapons also serve many other purposes in society including use in sports, collections for display, and historical displays and demonstrations. As technology has developed throughout history, weapons have changed with it.
If you have ever seen the movie The Wolf on Wall Street, there is no doubt you have seen the effects drugs can have. Leonardo DiCaprio portrays a high-strung stock broker reliant on a multitude of illegal drugs to keep up with his hectic life style. His addiction gets so severe that at one point in the movie, he is lying on the floor, unable to move due to the drugs’ effects on his body. Even though the movie is set in the 90’s, a decade infamous for its use of drugs, today, drug usage and abuse has never been more of an issue. According to Alice Park (2016), “More people died of drug overdoses in 2014 in the U.S. than in any other year” (p.49). What people fail to realize is that drug abuse effects more than just the individual that uses them. The loved ones trying to support the user, the community the user is in, can all be affected by drug abuse. In fact, all members of society are affected by the abuse of drugs. In short, no one benefits from drug abuse. In the words of the Nation Institute of Drug Abuse, “Drug abuse is a major public health problem that impacts society on multiple levels. Directly or indirectly, every community is affected by drug abuse and addiction, as is every family. Drugs take a tremendous toll on our society at many levels” ( Magnitude, 2016).
Illegal drugs will always be the number one cause of criminal behavior. Within today’s society, drugs have taken a negative impact on individuals who buys and sell drugs. The negative consequences of drug abuse affect not only individuals who abuse drugs but also their families and friends, various businesses, and government resources. Although many of these effects cannot be quantified, ONDCP recently reported that in 2002, the economic cost of drug abuse to the United States was $180.9 billion. (National Drug Threat Assessment) Drugs are one of the major criminal issues that society faced for
Many of the issues we experience in society in one way or another are related to drugs. Drugs can harm us in very negative ways from causing illnesses to the innumerable drug wars that are seen in the street corners in the United States and other countries. Although it exists in several other places in the
As reiterated by Barbara Bibel, historic data reveals that the worldwide use of mind-altering drugs dates back to 5,000 BCE (Bibel 6). This fact proves that drug abuse is not a new dilemma nor has an effective solution to this age old problem been found. Over the centuries, substance abuse has been proven to be a contributing fact to a slew of social conditions such as the spread of HIV/Aids and increased crime rates, and has made many victims to the addictive properties of drugs. Unfortunately, America is not exempt from the global, dangerous and deadly effects of drug abuse. The abuse of prescription and illegal drugs has devastated American history, the present condition of the family system and projections for America’s future society.
The dawn of the twenty first century has ushered in a new age of optimism and wonder. Despite the proclamations of television, all is not in well in our part of the world. Our societies have succumbed to the modern holy war on drugs. Being fought against our own citizens and citizens abroad, an international effort to eradicate drug production and use has undoubtedly failed leaving in its wake social unrest and political chaos. Assault, property crime, racial and economic marginalization, murder, corruption and many other undesirable things are burning through society fueled by the drug war's cold and inhuman policies. In addition to these problems there are the initial problems that drug users incur on
In 2012, President Obama outlined his vision of a built to last America where an educated, skillful trained workforce with knowledge, energy and expertise to enter in the global marketplace. However, far too many Americans visions and dreams are limited by drug use, which put limitations not only on the individuals, but also threatens families, neighborhoods, and communities. The economic downfall of drug usage is huge. Illegal drug use cost our Country more than $193 billion dollars in lost productivity, healthcare, and criminal justice costs. Nonetheless, the loss of human lives are much worse. Nationally, drug induced overdose deaths exceed homicides and vehicle crash deaths in America. A 21st century approach drug policy, the National Drug Control Strategy signifies the Obama Administration’s plan to reduce drug use and its effects.
Although some people argue for the legalization of drugs, addiction to these substances has caused a huge increase in violent crimes in the home, at school, and on the street. Many people do not understand why individuals become addicted to drugs or how drugs change the brain to create compulsive drug abuse. They mistakenly view drug abuse and addiction as strictly a social problem and may characterize those who take drugs as morally weak. One very common belief is that drug abusers should be able to just stop taking drugs if they are only willing to change their behavior. This is a false and uneducated belief. Drug abuse may start as a social problem or social escape but one the addiction has taken ahold of a person
Drug abuse is a major public health issue that impacts society both directly and indirectly; every person, every community is somehow affected by drug abuse and addiction and this economic burden is not exclusive to those who use substance, it inevitably impacts those who don't. Drugs impact our society in various ways including but not limited to lost earnings, health care expenditures, costs associated with crime, accidents, and deaths. The use of licit or illicit drugs long term, causes millions of deaths and costs billions for medical care and substance abuse rehabilitation and the effects of drug abuse extend beyond users, spilling over into the society at large, imposing increasing social and economic costs.
Use of illegal drugs is harmful to the user and all those with whom the user comes in contact. There are over 40 million illegal drug users in the world today and America is the biggest market for drugs. (Castro 45) There are more drug dealers in this country, than there are dentists. (Wakefield 112) Illegal drug abuse must be stopped; it
Drug abuse, whether alcohol, tobacco, prescription or illicit, continues to burden society, economics, medical care systems, and the family dynamic. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that globally 185 million people are illicit drug users and an astounding 1.3 billion individuals are smokers.1 Smoking related deaths, estimated at nearly 5 million worldwide, continue to be the leading preventable cause of death. Additionally, in the United States alone, $167 billion in annual health-related economic loss can be attributed to smoking.2 Although there are roughly only 200,000 deaths reported to be directly associated with illicit drug use, the detriment to family and society, and the economic costs associated with crime, law enforcement,
In the world today people are currently using different types of illegal and legal drugs. Drugs has been a big issue for the past years, but has become more concerning during the last ten years. Drugs have not only affected the users, but it has also affected everyone else. Other countries around the world have started drug wars which have lead to corruption, and increased crime rates. Drug use has been one of the major issues that America has been dealing with up until this day. Innocent lives have been taken, families have been broken, and education has been neglected all because of drug use. In America the most common drug that people use is Marijuana also known as pot, mary jane, and cannabis. In the essays “How Marijuana Really Affects the Brain” by Laura Tedesco and “Does Using Marijuana as a Teen Make You [sic] Dumber?” by German Lopez
The vast majority of all people, addicts and alcoholics included, do not consume drugs as a means of destroying their lives. Nor do they consume them intending to become addicted to them. Abuse and addiction are the adverse consequences that sometimes occur when drugs are consumed at habitual or routine levels. They are the survival-threatening features of the behavior in question, not the functional or pleasurable features that fundamentally motivate the behavior. The most important factor for the spread of crack and heroin is that when opiates and cocaine are illegal, low potency versions of these drugs become extensively expensive. Thus, consumers are induced to switch to more intensive and more harmful drug forms and delivery systems. Absent the incentives created by current policy, consumers will revert to the modes of consumption that are less damaging.
Drug abuse has become a public health crisis of major proportions. It sabotages physical and psychological health. This sometimes leading to chronic illness and sometimes even death. According to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), “An estimated twenty million Americans aged twelve or older used an illegal drug in the past thirty days.” The most commonly used and abused drugs today are marijuana, cocaine, meth, and heroin. Drugs are chemicals and while each drug may produce a different physical effect, all substances that are being abused share one common thing. They take over the normal function of the brain and they change the way the brain responds to issues of self control, emotion, motivation, judgment, learning, and
