Over time, majority of Americans own cell phones and text while driving. A lot of Americans died in an accident which resulted in texting and driving. Respondent suffered two seizure disorders since 2015 due to her alcohol use. The recent seizure occurred on 01/09/2017 due to alcohol use. Respondent has been advised by Dr. Tan to stop alcohol use and no medications were prescribed for seizure disorder. Respondent is compliant with medical regime and knowledgeable about her condition. It is clear that if people would stop texting, talking or using other apps on their phones while driving , then there would be fewer accidents. The number of teens dying from being injured has skyrocketed as a result of texting while driving. It is estimated that there are over three thousand teen deaths and three hundred thousand injuries nationwide. A recent study by the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute showed that drivers who are texting are two times more likely to crash or almost crash compared to those who are focused on the road. There are thirty nine states and the district of Columbia that ban texting for drivers on a statewide basis. A federal survey showed that there are ninety four percent of Americans that think texting and driving should be illegal. Why would a person put their life at risk just to reply to someone’s text message that could wait until they reach their destination? It does not make sense that most people are aware of this growing problem in our country. Yet they all think the statistics do not apply to them. If individuals would use some of their time to research and read some of the statistics and stories of others who have been injured in texting and driving accidents, they might realize it could happen to them at any point in their lifetime. The person on the other end of that text message would most likely rather see their friend alive because they did not text them back right away, other than dead because they tried sending them one text that could have waited until they had reached their destination.
