Interest groups are formed to influence political processes in ways that benefit their members and promote their interests. Linkage institutions connect the people to the government. Special interest groups, lobbyists, and political action committees are important linkage institutions in the political process. In fact, the Constitution contains several provisions that protect the right of individuals to promote their interests in a representative democracy. The Constitution allows for citizens to say what they would like due to freedom of speech, right to assemble, amd publicly post their opinion without censorship due to freedom of press.
