Interest groups are formed to influence political processes in ways that benefit their members and promote their interests. Linkage institutions connect the people to the government. Special interest groups, lobbyists, and political action committees are important linkage institutions in the political process. In fact, the Constitution contains several provisions that protect the right of individuals to promote their interests in a representative democracy. The Constitution allows for citizens to say what they would like due to freedom of speech, right to assemble, amd publicly post their opinion without censorship due to freedom of press. Interest groups are a group of individuals that unite due to a common interest. Interest groups have been formed over things like abortion, and gun laws. Due to these groups, they indirectly influence the government , connecting the groups to the government, making interest groups key linkage institutions. The ways interest groups influence politics, to get what they want is lobbying, and the help of political action committees. Lobbying is the act of persuasion, or seeking to influence. Interest groups lobby by selecting someone to represent their views, go to the capital and put pressure onto the congressman , and other policymakers. Along with the act of lobbying, interest groups use political action committees to help them. PACs are organizations formed to collect money and provide financial support for political candidates. Some political candidates can be a representative of an interest group, and this is how interest groups benefit from PACs.
