Throughout history there have been multiple armed conflicts that have affected people, countries and the living situation in those countries. Two wars that had a major impact on society were World War One and World War Two. There were many short term and long term factors that led to the start of both these World Wars. Major historical circumstances that led to the start of World War One are, Nationalism and Militarism, and Imperial rivalries. Nationalism was a major contributor to the start of this war. For example throughout the Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian Empire there were numerous religions and ethnic groups that varied in beliefs. This caused the groups to start to revolt and try to form their own government/nation. Additionally, …show more content…
This is known as Militarism and was another main contributor to the beginning of the war. Another major cause of the war was Imperial rivalries. During this time Germany began to imperialize. Due to this imperialization competition for colonies between Britain, France, and Germany grew. Both countries came to fear the Germans growing gain of power, this same fear led to the French and British making alliances. Another important historical circumstance that led to the World War One was the assassination of Archduke Francis Ferdinand. This was an immediate cause of the war, and triggered a series of events which led to almost every country becoming involved in the war. After this major war there were many effects that impacted society and the countries involved. However, the country that was impacted significantly was Germany. After the war the Treaty of Versailles was put in place and was seen as a punishment to the Germans. This treaty called Germany to help provide other countries after the war. However, this put a strain on the German economy and their resources, which caused starvation, and depression throughout the country. The Germans eventually signed the treaty in order to pay less …show more content…
One tremendous cause of the War was the Treaty of Versailles which was created after the end of World War One. After this war, there was constant aggression and tension throughout Europe and most of Germany. Hitler who realized this began to create a following, and promised he would establish German pride which was taken away from them when the Treaty of Versailles was put in place. Although Hitler came to power legally, he began to disregard the treaty and started to build up the German army. Another major cause of this war was the hatred for communism. Hitler and other powers who despised communism teamed up to fight against it. In order to do this Hitler signed an appeasement. However, this appeasement didn’t last long and Hitler soon broke the treaty. This betrayal led to France and Britain declaring war on Germany, which marked the start of World War Two. World War Two was a horrific war and impacted many religious, political and ethnic groups, as well as German society itself. Atomic bombs were dropped killing a tremendous amount and injuring many as well in Japan. Yet, the specific groups that were impacted the most were the Jews and Communists. From the beginning of the war Hitler had a huge amount of hatred for the Jews and Communists. Hitler believed that the Germans were the superior race and the Jews and Communists were the source of all the problems. Therefore, concentration camps were
The warfare of WWI affected society by causing crucial pain to many soldiers. Many soldiers came home limping and blind. When soldiers came home wives and children were distraught to see them in this condition. Everyone did not have hope in the United States winning this war anymore. One reason the soldiers came home blind was because of poisonous gas. The gas would slowly asphyxiate the soldiers, and the wind will blow the gas towards the villages where the civilians lived. So since the gas would spread to the villages the civilians would suffer for no reason. But, this is sort of the soldiers fault because they used this gas but it is not really their fault for the wind blowing the gas.
Militarism, Alliances, Imperialism, and Nationalism played a huge part in the led up to World War 1. With the threat of war hanging over the heads of many countries, the Arms Race began. Germany, France, and Russia started to recruit a large portion of their male population. This gave the men a taste of war and the military experience. The Arms Race caused every European state have access to a huge army, but these armies ere ruining their economics. The citizens knew that they needed to rid of themselves of these armies before they went into economic ruin, but before this could happen they were propelled into war. Germany created a large, modern navy that threatened Britain. At the time of this threat, Germany was trying to secure Britain
Due to Germany taking back the colonies lost after World War I and forming an alliance with Austria, Germany’s actions against the Treaty of Versailles contributed to the cause of World War II. After Germany got slapped with a $33 Billion dollar war reparation bill and Kaiser Wilhelm was removed from power, Germany was a mess, which allowed the rise of Hitler. Hitler, being a former Iron Cross winning
WW2 was one the most horrible wars ever to take place. Now days it has effected us the way we live now.
To a minor extent was the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand the main cause of World War One. The assassination was in fact, one of sparks in the July Crisis, alongside an Ultimatum sent to Serbia. The other contributing factors of the First World War were Nationalism and Militarism, Nationalism being the main cause. Militarism was a large cause of the war because is involved the Arms Race. Nationalism pushed European countries to war by men signing up to fight assuming they would win. The Assassination was an unplanned event and a secondary causes of World War 1.
All levels of society felt the effects of World War I, in cultural, political, and academic ways. Approximately 16 million lives were lost, so most families in Europe were affected by the war. The war was over in 1919 after the signing of the Treaty of Versailles. Out of the war is in the 1920’s there was some prosperity. The “Roaring Twenties” was a time where people had more money because they worked to make the arms at the beginning of the war. Consumer goods were easy to attain. However Germany was in a lot of debt because of the war. Their country suffered from inflation because the government began printing so much cash. The U.S. also got involved because they loaned money to Germany that created a whole web of loans. Soon enough, the Great Depression started in the early 1930’s. This time period goes down in history as the longest and deepest economic decline in the Western industrialized world. In America more than 60% of the population was living below poverty, meaning the wealthy the richest owned most of the nations wealth. America was still doing better than Europe, in fact Europe started defaulting on loans and buying less American products. This actually was not good for the U.S. because with so much money coming in, people craved to buy stocks. But prices were too high to get into the system, so they would contribute to
Before World War 1 began there were many conflicts between many countries, these conflicts are what eventually led to the war. Nationalism lead to World War 1 for reasons people believed they needed to fight for their country, many people who weren’t fighting wanted to support their soldiers, and many soldiers felt as if they couldn’t back out of the war. Militarism was a cause because each country was building up their weapons and ammunition, as well as building up their armies. Finally Kaiser Wilhelm II was a cause because he had a very strong hate towards Britain, he was a very aggressive leader and he wanted Germany to be the number one country. Nationalism, militarism and Kaiser Wilhelm II were the three main causes of World War 1.
In my opinion, there were some factors that brought on an instant cause of the World War 1. They were when the heir of Austria-Hungry Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife's was assassinated, when Germany declared war on France, when Great Britain declared war on Germany, and when Germany declared war on Russia. Furthermore, I also believe some leading causes were nationalism, imperialism, and militarism, but the final straw was the assassination of Archduke Frances Ferdinand and his wife that brought on this war. Ferdinand was killed by a Serbian patriot by the name Gavrilo Princip.
World War One created substantial effects on the way we fought wars throughout the twentieth century and even today. This paper will explore the effects of the subordination of the individual and death of humanity through the military breaking and mending soldiers to the point of becoming a body with no soul. One will examine this process through the analysis of soldiers’ meals, prolonged marching, and intense schedules which broke many of them down to the point of being unamendable.
There are various causes that are lined up to have triggered the First World War The causes follow a series of consequences throughout the whole period of the war. One of these causes is the rise of alliances. These alliances involved the signing of agreements between countries that they would give each other help and support over a certain period. These agreements were important because they proved that nations would have no other options but to start the war if their allies started the same. There are a number of agreements that were signed between the year 1878 and 1914.In 1879 Germany and Austria Hungary made an agreement to protect each other from Russia. In 1881 Austria Hungary made an agreement with Serbia to prevent Russia from ruling over Serbia. In 1907 an agreement was made between Britain Russia France to strengthen their bond due to the increased threat of Germany (Van. 87). These agreements triggered the war because each group of allies believed that they could win in War due to the support they had from their members. But wait, what were the causes of World War 1.
The fourth cause of World War One was nationalism. Germany did not want to take responsibility for the war, since they didn’t start it, they were merely aiding Austria Hungary in their war. Germany confessing to starting the war all by themselves wouldn’t be the complete truth, since it was not all their fault. They were just helping aid Austria Hungary with their pursuits on Serbia. Germany’s rise to power was unsettling to many countries. Tensions rose, fear of military powers being higher than one’s own became prominent. Every country involved wanted to be better than all the rest.
All of these factors where established in many of Europe’s “Great Powers” which consisted of Great Britain, France, Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Russia. The main cause focused on what I stated above, in the previous sentences. The causes of World War 1 include a growing sense of militarism, which was accompanied by arms race, and imperialism. Imperialism as economic rivalries and competition for colonies among European nations were prevalent.
It is currently 1918 in America. World War 1 has recently ended. I am positive that the end of this world will affect my daily life in a big way. This war has changed society in a good and bad way. I imagine the way it affects society will impact the United States in the later years.
Thesis: The aftermath of World War II was the start of a new era. It created the decline of the previous ruling forces and the rise of the two superpowers; Soviet Union and the United States of America, creating a clash between the two bipolar opposite countries. Following World War II and the Suez crisis in 1956, The British Empires status as a superpower was greatly diminished. For the remainder of the Cold War the United States and the Soviet Union came to be viewed for the most part as the two remaining superpowers, dominating the majority of all world affairs. The main causes of world war 2 were alliances, politics and money. After world war 1, the german empire was very low on supplies and the great depression came. During the great depression, the people though that a democratic country wouldn't work, and they thought that they needed a more powerful leader. They choose Adolf Hitler as their leader, which caused the democratic government, to lose power. When Hitler came into power, he blamed the jews for everything that the germans hated, including the “Treaty of Versailles”. People somehow always believed in Hitler, and thought that they should follow him. In the end, he started forming alliances with Italy and empire Japan.
