My essay is about the Greek god Poseidon. He was the son of Cronus & Rhea. When he was born, his father swallowed him along with his 4 other siblings. His father swallowed them because he thought that they would one day over rule him. Poseidon was the god of the sea. He is also known as the god of earthquakes and horses.
Even though he was officially one of the supreme gods of Mount Olympus, Poseidon spent most of his time in the water. Poseidon had two brothers. Their names were brother to Zeus and Hades. They divided up creation. Zeus became ruler of the sky, Hades was ruler of the Underworld and Poseidon was given all of the water, both fresh and salt.In dividing heaven, the watery realm and the subterranean land of the dead, the Olympians agreed that the earth itself would be ruled jointly, with Zeus as king. This led to a number of disputes over territory among the gods.

This story is important because it is considered a founding myth of the city of Rome. The first king of Athens was King Cecrops. He wanted to find a patron deity for his city state. King Cecrops called on Athena and Poseidon because they both wanted to be the patron of this beautiful city. Their rivalry was so intense that they almost went to war. Right when they were about to attack each other, Athena suggested that they should hold a contest for the city. With King Cecrops as the judge, they set up the contest and decided that whoever presented the city with the best gift would be rewarded with the city itself as the grand
There was a myth that at the beginning of the existence of the city of Athens both gods offered gifts to the people of Athens, in order to sway them in deciding their patron god. Athena offered peace and prosperity while Poseidon offered naval power. The Athenians accepted Athena’s gift. Athens overall culture continued to reflect this decision, the city, in addition to being a center for architecture and mathematics, also played an important role in the progress of government, theology and philosophy. This myth could also give an explanation of why Athenian people may have felt superiority to other city states such as Sparta. The mythological significance it had was much greater than with another city-state such as Thebes, although it was related to the story of Hercules, and
Cronus was the chief god, but his children overthrew him. Zeus, Hades, and Poseidon then divided up the rule of the world by drawing lots. Zeus won control of the heavens and became the chief god, while Hades became the god of the underworld. Rule of the sea fell to Poseidon. Poseidon would calm or guide the waves for people he favored, protecting them and speeding their way during voyages at sea.
Poseidon is the god of the sea, earthquakes, and horses. “He was violent and moody and carried a three-pronged spear called a trident” (Gall 46). Poseidon had two brothers, Zeus, and Hades. Poseidons wife was Amphitrite. His father was the head titan Cronus, his mother was Rhea. All of the olympian gods hated the titans. Poseidon was one of the twelve olympian gods. The olympians fought against the titans and won. All of them were the rulers of the world. They were better than the titans. The twelve of them called themselves the twelve olympian gods because their kingdom was on top of Mt. Olympus and there were twelve of them. When the gods chose which god controlled what domain of the world poseidon picked the sea. The greeks made him the god of earthquakes and horses too. If he was mad he created earthquakes. He created the horse for Demeter. So
Have you ever heard of the mighty Greek God Zeus? He is the rules of all the Gods and Goddess. Zeus has 2 brothers, Poseidon and Hades. Poseidon is the God of the sea and Hades is the God of the underworld. The myth goes that the 3 brothers once fight and the winner would be the ruler chooses where and what his brothers rule.

Once in world far away there was a man named Hydro son of the water God, Poseidon. He lived with his Dad in his underwater kingdom. Hydro had many powers, but he didn’t know how to control them. Sometimes he would accidently cause hurricanes and tsunamis. Poseidon and hydro controlled all of the seas. Hydro has a sidekick named Phin, he is a dolphin that has such a high voice it can make someone go def. Hades was the God of the underworld brother of Poseidon. Hades was always jealous of Poseidon’s power.
Poseidon was an ancient Greek god whose name either meant lord of the earth or husband of the earth. It is believed that he was the son of the Titan gods Cronos and Rhea, the brother of Hades and Zeus as well as the husband of Amphitrite. Different traditions differ in his age compared to Zeus, some claim he was older while others claim that he was younger. He is famous for hosting a trident. He was represented by the use of fish.
Poseidon threw his trident on the ground and created a saltwater spring. The people of Athens liked Athena's offer more and built her a temple. Poseidon got mad and flooded the city (“Poseidon”). He then calmed down and the people of Athens gave him sacrifices. In another myth, King Minos asked Poseidon to send a bull for him to sacrifice.
Jae Herrera Mr. Lopez 2nd block English I 4-25-16 English I Research Paper : Poseidon Poseidon, formal known as the God Of sea, along with his sibling Hades was swallowed by his father, Cronus, at a young age, but was saved by his Older sibling, Zeus, by tricking his father to drink a potion that contained chemicals that would make any living being regurgitate everything in their stomach. Later as Zeus, Hades, and Poseidon aged older they Eventually overthrew Cronus out of the leader of Olympia ( Wickersham 1). Eventually Zeus, Hades and Poseidon overthrew their Father they took separate major areas of the Earth to rule, in this case Poseidon took God Of the Sea .His weapon was a trident, with which he could make the earth shake, causing earthquakes, and shatter any object. He was second to Zeus power amongst the gods.
Zeus, Hades, and Poseidon, also known as the “Big Three,” were brothers. Hades was the oldest, then Poseidon, and then Zeus. The three battled to see who would become the heir of the position their father, Kronos, who was the Supreme Ruler of the Gods. Zeus overthrew Kronos, becoming Supreme Ruler, as well as God of the Sky and Rain.
(Encyclopedia of Religion7338) As some may know, Poseidon is also associated with horses and some of the Earth's men. He is made out to be the father of the first horse. It was like he controlled them and they served only to him as their god. Also, Poseidon had temples where man would meet and spiritually connect to heal wounds and break evil ties.
Poseidon is the god of the sea. He sometimes seems to have inferiority complex against Zeus, brother of Poseidon. Poseidon wakes his wrath to disturb Odysseus going back to his home. This is because Odysseus makes the Cyclops Polyphemus, son of Poseidon, blind, and Poseidon was the patron of Troy which was defeated by Greek army in which Odysseus was a leader. In addition, Athena is not only the patron of Odysseus, but also the rival to Poseidon for the patron of Athens, so Athena won that position. These are able to be reasons of the wrath of Poseidon.
Together the Gods went to war against Cronus and the Titans for ten years, and Cronus was defeated. Having beaten the old gods, Zeus made himself supreme god of the Olympians and most powerful god. The brothers drew straws for domains of the Universe and therefore were divided into three parts. Poseidon became the god of the sea, Zeus became the king of gods, the sky, and heaven and earth and Hades became the god of the underworld.
One story that shows the competition between Poseidon and the other gods and goddesses is when he and Athena tried to persuade the citizens of Athens to make one of them their patron god (Gall 48). Poseidon’s gift was that of a spring that bubbled from the ground. The people were amazed at this site. Unfortunately for Poseidon, the water was as salty as the sea and it could not be drunk. Athena’s gift was that of an olive tree (Gall 48). The citizens loved this gift and chose her to be their patron and in her honor, named their city Athens (Cavendish (2074).
Helios was the God of Fire, and Aeolus was the God of Ice. Poseidon was friendly at times, but could have a bad temper. He lived on what he called Aqudome, or the Planet of Water. This planet was small, but bigger than all of the other god’s planets. His planet had no air, because it was completely water.
