The Cold War started in the collapse of the American-British-Soviet Alliance that took out the Germans and Japanese during the Second World-War. When the cold war started happening Britain and Canada stayed allies because of how the Second World War played out. “During The Cold, War Canada played an important role Towards NATO, Canada helped create the UN, Played an important role in the Korean War.”
Igor Gouzenko started off the cold war in Canada. The Soviet Union trained Igor as an intelligence officer, then in 1943, he was made a cipher clerk at the Soviet Legation in Ottawa. Igor learned about the many spy networks in Canada. Later decided to defect when his family was getting taken back to Russia. Nobody in Canada took him seriously

Putting the nation in a complete defensive security arrangement with the united states of America, Britain and the nations of western Europe. During the Cold War, NATO forces made a frontline deterrence against the Soviet Union. The treaty was signed on April 4, 1949. It included 12 nations: Canada, United States, Iceland, Britain, France, Norway, Denmark, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Portugal, and Italy. At the center of the treaty was a security provision of Article 5 “an armed attack against one or more of them in Europe or North America shall be considered an attack against them all. In 1966 France pulled out of NATO’s military structure, although France remained a member of the Nato alliance. The government of Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau considered a similar withdraw for Canada. In 1969 an important review of the foreign policy, they decided to cut Canada's contribution drastically, ending Canada's nuclear strike role and diminish the army and air elements. After Canada’s commitment of arms and troops to the alliance persisted substantially lower than NATO countries wanted The Cold War later ended in the early 1990s. Canada's troops in Europe were brought home, NATO changed its ways from defense against the Soviet Union to fully pursue global peace and security. Peacekeeping is the term linked to United Nations (UN) military mediation operations. Because of Lester Pearson's authority in the 1956 Suez Emergency and Canada's part in the UN Crisis Power he made, Canadians have in some cases thought about peacekeeping part of the nation's personality. Nonetheless, since the 1990s Canada's notoriety for being a peacekeeping country has been muddled by outrage and by the disappointment of some abroad missions. After Suez, many Canadians came to regard peacekeeping as a national vocation and burden on Canada. This was very evident in July 1960
Cold war was one of the reasons why Australian went to war in Vietnam, Americans and the Russians were competing as who was the super power. Cold war began in 1945 to 1991; it was about arms, race, building ammunition to become powerful in the eyes of the world. Cold war as although there were many small or localised conflicts, none actually drew the large powers into full scale war. It was mainly involved by the people of untied states of America and its allies against the Soviet Union and its allies. There was fierce completion between the two allied groups for influence and power. There were threats for the cold war to be broken out into hot war with the fear that atomic missiles would be
After the Second World War ended, when Canada and her Allies were still celebrating victory over Germany, a young Russian cipher clerk named Igor Gouzenko walked out of the Soviet Embassy in Ottawa with secret papers stuffed under his shirt and headed straight for the offices of a city newspaper. His unprecedented action would awaken the people of North America to the magnitude and the danger of Soviet espionage and change the course of the twentieth century. Gouzenko was the beginning of the Cold War for public opinion and he did play a role in Canada’s involvement in the war, however, Canada became directly involved in the Cold War due to communist fears, nuclear choices, and ties to a superpower.
The Cold War began with Winston Churchill, Prime Minister of Britain, giving a speech of imposing an, “iron curtain,” separating East and West Germany. The Soviet Union having control over East Germany, and the United States controlling West Germany. Berlin, the capital of Germany, was also separated, the Soviet Union took over East Berlin and Germany took over West Berlin. The countries had different government systems, the U.S. was Democratic and the Soviet Union was Communist. Tension started to build around the two world powers. Soon enough, a cold war broke out, the countries fought economically, politically and competed in an arms race against one another.
Although Canada was not one of the two countries most known to be associated with the Cold War, the country played a big role in intelligence and the apprehension of spies. Research conducted suggests that through figures such as Igor Gouzenko, John Starnes, and Lester B. Pearson, as well as Canada’s response to events such as “witch hunts” and the related “Red Scare”, the Cold War had a positive impact on the Canadian identity. The Cold War was a conflict famously between The Soviet Union and the United States, lasting from the end of World War II until the 1990s. Being a “Cold War”, there was no physical violence - although it was the cause of shorter, violent wars during its duration.
The Cold war began after World War two and ended in the early 1990s. The cold war was a series of events that occurred because the United States and Soviet Union fighting for power. Both superpowers fought for who would have the biggest influence on the nations. The United States was democratic while the Soviet Union was communist thus they tried to contain the spread of each other’s beliefs while dragging other countries into the cold war including Europe, Latin America and Asia. The cold war had a big impact on both Asia and Europe.
The Cold War - an ideological conflict between Communist and non-Communist nations, started after World War II. It happened because of the disagreement of the Allies - United States, Britain, France, and the Soviet Union on how to govern Germany. Another reason was that it was because of nuclear weapons. This happened because when two nations have destructive power on their hand, they started to doubt if they can have trust that power in other nations
The Cold War could be described as one of the most 'distant' wars in history because there was no direct military fighting involved, only threats and fights through other countries. Although, many lives and money was lost, it was not as fatal and severe as World War II. In 1947, or right after World War II, the Cold War began due to conflict between the United States and Soviet Union. It ended on December 26, 1991 and the United States endured most of the damage that was a result of the war while Russia became a larger territory through the countries they gained power over. The war took place in the U.S., USSR, Europe, Cuba, Vietnam, Greece, Korea, East Asia and South America and lasted for over forty years. Although both contributed to the war, the United States should be blamed for the increasing tensions of the Cold War because of the NATO, Marshall Plan and Truman Doctrine.
After the end of World War Two, the world was split into two, east and west. This marked the beginning of an era called the Cold War. The Cold War was the most subtle war in history, but the world came very close to a nuclear war that had the potential to inevitably wipe out mankind. The two main opponents in this war were the Soviet Union and the United States. With Canada being the United States neighbour to the north and close to The Soviet Union geographically, Canada allied itself with the United States. This union cause a lot of political trauma, but it brought a lot of new technology to Canada and helped strengthen our relationship with the United States. Therefore Canada did ally with the United States, but at the same time Canada
The cold war was extremely important to Canada because it shaped Canada (as a country) in front of the world. Canada is viewed as a strong/more reliable country now than before the cold war era. The cold war was important to canada because it brought a lot of ups and downs that had changed our relations in general with people and the world. From the french FLQ Crisis to Lester B. Pearson winning Nobel Peace Prize award for his role in helping solve the Suez Crisis problem Canada achieved a lot more than they lost making the cold war quiet important to our country. First,Canada became known as the peacemaking country during the whole cold war era when Canada first announced the NATO(North Atlantic Treaty Organization) in 1949 and also being apart
It advocated for the ban on nuclear weapons and arms race, particularly during 1970-1980s. Furthermore, Canada was involved in United Nations since 1945. An important figure in peacekeeping of Canada was Lester B. Pearson, a Canadian prime minister who reigned from 1963 to 1968. Although the concept of peacekeeping was evident before Lester B. Pearson, it was he who promoted for United Nations to establish an official peacekeeping force during the Suez crisis. He stated, “We need action not only to end the fighting, but to make the peace... My own government would be glad to recommend Canadian participation in such a United Nations force, a truly international peace and police force” on November 2, 1956. As a result of Pearson’s proposal for a peace force, the UN Peacekeepers were formed and in 1988, 80 000 UN Peacekeepers accepted a Nobel Peace Prize for their services. The money went to the families of peacekeepers who had died in the line of duty. Lester B. Pearson also received a Nobel Peace Prize in 1957 for the adaptation and evolution of peacekeeping. Moreover, Canadian UN Peacekeepers have accepted missions since the first UN operation in 1956 such as operations in Cyprus, Bosnia and Haiti. In fact, over 125 000 Canadian peacekeepers participated in approximately 50 missions. As well as commencing a peacekeeping force, Canada was one of the first countries to support peacebuilding. For example, in
The Cold War was a geopolitical, ideological, and economic struggle mainly between the two superpowers, The United States of America and the USSR. Although the USSR and US were the two superpowers that initiated the conflict, other countries such as Vietnam, North and South Korea, and Cuba had major involvement in the Cold War. The US was a capitalist country while the USSR was a communist country. There are many reasons, that when combined caused the Cold War to start. Some of the most important reasons were the fear of the USSR’s expansion of communism into Eastern Europe
After World War II America and Russia became superpowers. Even thought they fought together against the Nazis they soon became hostile rivals. Between 1945 and
The Cold war dated from 1947-1991. It was characterized by both political and military superiority between United States, which was backed by its NATO allies, and Soviet Union that led the communist side. The cold war was mainly started after the success of the alliance that was formed against Nazi Germany. This competition supremacy on nuclear warfare attracted other countries that also started making nuclear weapons due to the tension that existed in the world. Both sides directed huge sums of money to their military budgets with each side trying to outdo the other.
The Cold War was the ideological conflict between the two superpowers of the world, the democratic United States of America and the communist Soviet Union. For over fifty years the two superpowers fought each other indirectly for power and control of the world. The Cold War started after the end of the Second World War in 1945 when the eyes of both superpowers were no longer looking at Nazi Germany, but instead at each other and the fate of the rest of the world. The Cold War began after the Second World War had ended, although tensions between the two new superpowers, United States and Soviet Union, had been lasting since 1917 with the start of the Bolshevik revolution in Russia. With the start of the Second World War, tensions were put
Post World War II, the Cold War was initiated as the result of tension between the Western Alliance (including the United States of America and NATO allies) and the Eastern Alliance (the Soviet Union and Warsaw Pact allies). It is
