How Did The Boston Tea Party Cause The American Revolution

In 1773 Samuel Adams led a group of colonists on three ships and did something that made a monumental impact to kickoff the American Revolution. It is known as The Boston Tea Party. It is believed that the group of colonists did it because they were afraid that if tea landed the colonists would give in to the British tax. In 1773 the British passed the Tea act which allowed the East Indian Company to ship tea right to the colonies. This made the colonists very enraged but mostly the salesmen and shops owners because it would cost them heaps of money.

A lot happened in Boston that lead up to the American Revolution. Three of those events were the Stamp Act, the Boston Tea Party, and the Intolerable Acts. These events took place between the years 1765-1774.

There were a lot of events leading up to the American Revolution. But there are three events that are important. These three events were the Stamp Act, the Boston Tea Party, and the Quartering Acts.

Colonists like Samuel Adams and Paul Revere used the event as a propaganda tool to outrage the colonies and increase anti-British sentiment. Parliament repealed all the taxes on the colonies, except the tax on tea. Although the colonists loved tea, many boycotted it because of the tax. The Tea Act in 1773 “was an effort to bail out the bankrupt East India Company by granting that corporation a monopoly on the tea trade to Americans”.

In December 1773 King George the third made a tax on tea. He made this tax to make money. Before this King George taxed them on official documents, dice, playing cards, and stamps. The colonies were not too happy to pay for the taxes. The colonies mostly drank tea. They were unhappy and mad. So they decided to dress as natives to go dump the tea in the Boston harbor. They went at night and went on the ships and dumped about three thousand crates of tea. This is a good historical event because the colonist were gaining independence and motivation.

Britain set the price of tea very low, so that the colonists would only buy their tea (doc 3). This threatened to put colonial merchants out of business (doc 3). A band of about 100 men went aboard 3 British cargo ships and dumped $88,000 worth of tea into the ocean. To rebel even further, the colonists boycotted tea and turned to coffee. This was yet another taxation at American ports on things such as glass, white lead, paper, paint, and tea. The colonists were frustrated by yet another taxation without representation. They began smuggling in teas at a cheap price. This led the British officials to be placed in places, such as Boston, to restore order. It is our opinion that the one event had the most significant role in causing the American Revolution was the Second Continental Congress. We believe this because the Second Continental Congress earned independence for the colonists, they wrote the Declaration of Independence, and formed a government for the colonies. We think the Second Continental Congress had the most significant role in causing the American Revolution. This is because they earned independence and escaped British rule.

It is my opinion that the one event that had the most significant role in causing the American Revolution was the Coercive/Intolerable Acts. I believe this event had the most significant role in starting the American Revolutionary War because of the following, one, the colonists were already angered by the taxes/laws/acts. Next, the acts changed the way many colonists had to live. And finally I believe that the Coercive/Intolerable Acts were unfair to the colonists and that that some of the laws and acta were not necessary.

It was not so significant because of the number of deaths or the affects it had on America's relationship with Great Britain, but more because of the changes it caused in society socially, economically, and politically.

The American Revolution was the most important event to ever take place in this country. This war took place from 1765-1783 and involved Great Britain and the United States of America. Without this revolution, the colonies would have never gained independence from Great Britain and the United States could still be under their control. However, this revolution did not occur without a cause, early Americans fought for independence because of unfair treatment from England. There were many causes to the Revolution including high taxes, unfair laws, and even colonists being killed.
