Studios wanted to make movies that people would want to watch multiple times so they made creative movies that were unlike anything before. The pursuit to create something that no one has done before was done by using new computer technologies to create computer generated images to put in the movie. Using the computer technologies, they could create sets and characters that couldn’t be done any other way. These factors led to the popularization of the science fiction film. Science fiction was the most bankable genre in the 80s. An example of a movie that thrived to do its computer generated special effects was the 1982 movie Tron.
