Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. King attended Booker T. Washington High School and became a part of the school’s debate team. He graduated from Morehouse College with B.A. sociology degree. Later on, King received his Ph.D. degree at Boston University for systematic theology. He would always quote during his church meetings and speeches. Martin Luther King Jr. is one of the most important African-Americans because of his role in the American civil rights movement which he worked for equal rights for all. Martin was a pastor and his main priority was Jesus Christ. In his sermon King stated that “Before I was a civil rights leader, I was a preacher of the Gospel. This was my first calling and it still remains my greatest commitment. You know, actually all that I do in civil rights I do because I consider it a part of my ministry.” He was a leader of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. Birmingham campaign was to end segregation in public facilities and racial discrimination in employment. During the protests the protesters were hosed down with pressured water jets and police dogs. This was broadcasted on national television news which really shocked many white Americans. Earlier in the campaign King was arrested during his jail time he wrote a letter called “Letter from Birmingham Jail” which explains the movement. He argues that the problem of racism is too powerful. During the March on Washington in 1963, King gave his most famous speech “I Have a Dream.” The speech was about ending racial segregation in public schools, a law that does have racial discrimination in employment, protection of civil rights workers from police etc. During the St. Augustine movement the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was passed. King won the Noble Peace Prize for his nonviolent resistance racial prejudice in America on October 14,
