What would you do do if you were in the wilderness and you could only use the environment to help you? What would you use to build a house? The native people and coastal people used their surroundings to help them out in the wilderness.The coastal and native tribes of the northwest interacted with their environment differently to provide food, shelter and clothing for their people.

The Coastal people adapted well to the wet climate. They mostly relied on the nearby ocean for food like sea mammals and whales. They took advantage of the forest area and cut down the cedar trees to make permanent longhouses. They also carved masks, totem poles, and carved stones. Even though they had the wet climate, they stayed in the same area.

In the novel Longboat Bay are the starting and the main setting. The characters Abel and his mother Dora lives on the land of Longboat Bay. The lands have been the Jacksons land for more than a century and have been taking care of it since now. Abel lives in a place with no main electricity from the city and no water except rainwater. The land around them is a national park and behind the house is the orchard. This is shown in the quote “and all the land around them was a national park.” And “there were orange and lemon trees in the orchard as well as olives and mulberries.” The sea is “rich in life” and the author invites the reader to want to care for the sea. This technique shows the beauty of the sea and the land around it.

Through this he states that humans’ imagination are inspired by the scenery around them. Lopez revolves around a central perspective; Ancient american literature has always been rooted in nature. By acknowledging that modern human identity has been interpreted by nature, Lopez describes how the landscape of an area can shape the structure of the communities and how it can help with spiritual collapse. Nature writing has often been summarised by being one of the oldest threads in american literature. With our nation's aging one needs to reflect on their literary past; therefore, Lopez insists that we find our path to nature that

The far north indigenous tribes of Australia centralised their camps and villages in the proximity of a running stream. The cultural region is the Northwest Coast. This tribe’s region has temperate forest, known as a marine west coast forest, which is home to coniferous trees. The Salish used these trees to build their shelters, which were rectangular planked wood longhouses. This Geographic Region is right on the Pacific Ocean, which provides natural resources for the tribe. The main mode of transportation was the dugout canoe, which allowed travel by sea, as well as access to sea life.
