Prime Ministers have one of the hardest and most stressful jobs in the world. They need to take care of the people of a country and to make them happy at all times. Prime Ministers need to have really good leadership skills and need to make the best decisions for the country. If one Prime Minister has failed to accomplish to improve a country, someone else has to be elected. But for Jean Chretien, this has not been the case.
Jean Chretien was one of Canada's most important people in its history. He improved Canada's economy. He was mostly famous for being Canada's 20th Prime Minister for 10 years. Jean Chretien is from Shawinigan, Canada and was born on January 11, 1934. He studied in Laval University of Quebec (Quebec City) and studied law. He is a married man and helped Canada in one of its hardest times.

Around 1990, Chretien became the leader of the Liberal party and went back to the House of Commons to help out New Brunswick with their "Beauséjour" project. Also, he improved Canada's state in economy by getting rid of deficit and having more savings by the government to improve Canada for five straight years. Additionally, he supported war but he wouldn't send troops to Iraq because of the United Nations resolution.
Back in 2001, Canada was dependant with United States of America. When America got attacked by the terrorist group Al Queda, Chretien was worried because it's been the first time since World War 2 that the American border has been a huge problem. It was a problem because Canada needed the American exports. Chretien wanted to help America but the Canadian troops had very little recourses and a weak army. But in 2002, Canada sent their troops to help the Americans in Afghanistan. But Chretien refused to send troops to the Iraq war without Authorization from the UN Security
Pierre Elliot Trudeau was the fifteenth prime minister of Canada. He had many accomplishments that benefited all of Canada which include the official language act of Canada where he made French and English the official languages, the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedom, and the liberalization of laws on abortion, homosexuality and the legalization of lotteries. These are only a few of the many accomplishments that Pierre Trudeau achieved for Canada while his position in Parliament that was important.

He was in office April 20, 1968, to June 4, 1979, and later on March 3, 1980, to June 30, 1984,.¹ An event that Pierre Trudeau is well known for is the enactment of the War Measures Act during the October Crisis. This decision to invoke the War Measures Act during the October Crisis has led to a great deal of controversy on whether the act was justified. The October Crisis was a series of events in October 1970, these events began with the kidnappings of James Cross and later Pierre Laporte by the group known as the FLQ (Front de libération du Québec) the group’s main goals were to create an independent Quebec.2 The group resorted to terrorist acts in order to achieve those goals, this later led to Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau invoking the War Measures Act. The War Measures Act was a federal statute adopted by parliament during WWI and has been used 3 times; during WWI, WWII and during the October Crisis. The act gives major power to the Canadian government to uphold security during times of great distress.3 Pierre Trudeau was justified in enacting the War Measures Act during the October Crisis. One reason that Pierre Trudeau was justified in invoking the War Measures Act is that the FLQ was essentially a terrorist organization responsible for the deaths and injuries of countless people. Tommy Douglas was the first person to ever lead a social-democratic government in Canada. It was because of his views that his political opponents often criticized him. They labelled him as a “red” and a “communist” at times, because he believed in socialism and that everyone deserved free healthcare, even the one’s who were poor and and in a bad situation. His impact on Canadians was a great one. Especially the ones were suffering from the economic depression that had it’s grip on Saskatchewan. Tommy Douglas worked to create a better society in Saskatchewan and Canada, he wanted to alleviate the suffering. He is known for how he drastically increased welfare benefits. By providing electricity to the farmers in the rural areas, he helped the poor farmers. By establishing a universal healthcare system, he helped the ones who were suffering from disease or sickness but couldn’t pay for help. By introducing the first ever auto insurance in Canada, he made accidents less tragic. He was a hero the citizens.

Looking at Canada and how it is now as a whole, it is not a likely thought that would come to your head everyday and think, where would this country be today if it wasn't for its leaders that started it. Sir John A MacDonald and Sir Wilfred Laurier were two major leaders that contributed their time to build Canada. As they suffered through many conflicts and challenges that they had to over come. As with MacDonald's dispute with the pacific scandal and bringing along colonies under one government, which lead to confederation. Some include Laurier and the Manitoba Act, along with reciprocity with-in Canada and the United States of America.

Upon becoming the Prime Minister of Canada, John diefenbakers intention was to unify and create equality for all Canadians. Canada faced dramatic changes through the decades of the 1960’s and 1970’s, but in particular the province of Quebec. In 1959, Quebec Premier Maurice Duplessis died, this marked the beginning of the Quiet Revolution. Duplessis was the Union Nationale leader and the party had controlled Quebec for decades until shortly after Duplessis’ death, a provincial election was held where the Liberals, led by Jean Lesage, had won the vote.
