Hernan Cortes had a great impact on exploration because he helped spread the Spanish empire in the central americas. In 1519 Cortes left Cuba to seek his fortune in the new world. While there and before his departure to what became Mexico City, Santiago Velazquez had decided to cancel Cortes’ expedition. Regardless, Cortes set sail with his exploration and arrived in the Yucatan Peninsula. There he encountered native people that were at war with a powerful tribe called the Aztecs. Hernán Cortés is an important Spanish conquistador who was responsible for the fall of the Aztecs. Cortes was born Medellin, Spain to a family of minor nobility. He chose to be part of the military in the new world. The age of exploration basically started with Columbus finding the Americas. In the beginning, Cortes moved to Santo Domingo in the west of the Indies. Couple of years later, he fought under the supervision of Diego Velazquez. Cortes was supposed to sail to the Yucatan in 1519, it was canceled because of the cost. Although Cortes conquered the Aztec Empire to make them join the holy faith of Christianity, his main priorities were searching for gold for himself and to become in power.
Hernan Cortes defied orders to have the Spanish base at Veracruz and moved near Tenochtitlán where there was rumored to be gold and other riches in Mexico. Soon after his arrival he became allies with the Tlaxcalteca a major enemy of the Aztecs. King Montezuma II heard of this alliance and sent gifts to Cortes to appease him and he even invited him into the Incan capital Tenochtitlán. Cortes upon arrival saw that he had been outnumber so instead he held Montezuma hostage and in the altercation Montezuma ended up getting killed. Over the next couple year he and his men fired siege weapons on the Aztecs until they surrendered. The siege cut off the water and food supplies which lead to a huge panic for the Aztecs. Another key role was smallpox, many of the Aztecs died off which weakened their military causing them to surrendering.Once they surrendered the Spanish went in and took control over the city and like many other places the conquistadors married the Native women having mestizos and combined their two cultures

Hernán brought large portions of Mexico under the King of Castile. He started many cocoa bean plantations. He had a rough early life and his parents wanted him to be a lawyer, but he went his own way. He was very wealthy and successful. Without him many things would have been different.
In today’s world, we have many famous explorers that we study in text books. One person that is lesser known is Hernan Cortez. Hernan Cortez was born into a lesser noble family in the year of 1485. He was born by the name of Hernan Cortez Pizarror (aztec-history,com). Hernan was destined by his parents to become a lawyer. Setting his own path, Hernan Cortez became a conquistador instead at the age of nineteen. Denying his orders to not set sail, Hernan took eleven ships and more than five hundred men to the Mexican Coast (biography.com). Later becoming a ruler and a criminal, he died December 2, 1547.
He had good planning skills, he planned his attack before he even started attacking the Aztecs, teamed up with the Aztecs enemies, learnt their language and figured out how he was going to take out the Aztecs with 300 men.

He had heard of a few Spanish explores that tried to take the land were repelled by native indians know as the Aztecs but was determined to claim the land. At first the Aztecs thought that Cortés was a god and respected him, but that only lasted for a little while and then they saw him as an enemy. Cortés and his men marched toward the Aztec capital called Tinochitlán and when they finally reached it they were blown away by its beauty and design.

The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne is about the transformation of Puritan woman known as Hester Prynne who changed from being labeled as an adulterer to somewhat of a living legend. Roger Chillingworth, Hester’s original husband was supposed to follow her in the new world, but sadly he never did. As a result Hester had to fend for herself having no chance to speak up against authority. She wore a scarlet letter as a result of a secret affair with Dimmesdale; this relationship made the public view Hester negatively. This dehumanizing stigma disappears when Hester performs good deeds , bettering a reputation in a judgemental community. Her daughter starts out as a symbol, and it is not until she is kissed by Dimmesdale at the scaffold, that change begins to occur. Hester Prynne’s transformation is the most remarkable because she endures adversity at the point where an average person would break down in defeat . Consequently, she distracts herself with household activities and kindness towards people in need to improve her precarious situation. Pearl has to pay for Hester’s actions and can only be freed from the trap when Dimmesdale finally recognizes the girl. Once accepted by her new father, Pearl gains a new identity and has a purpose in the world.
