In the beginning of the 1900s factory workers used to work 11-12 hours per day, six days a week. This became very stressful for the workers', so Henry Ford changed the workday to eight hours on his assembly line. In doing this he rasied productivity, increased the workers focus, and made the employees happier due to the fact that they werent in the factorys or offices all day. Most people do their best thinking in the late morning and late afternoon. People dont become fully alert until about four hours after waking up. Knowing this Henry Ford shorted the workday tio eight hours instead of 11-12, he also doubled the workers' pay. Most people can only focus for short peroids of time before needing a break to recharge. One corporation studied the productivity of its employees by tracking them throughout the workday. They found that the workers took a seventeen minute break for every fifty-two minutes they worked. These employees only worked six hours, yet they showed the highest productivity rate in the company. With some companies establishing a six hour workday, rather than an eight hour workday, employees have showen a happier attitude at work. These shorter workdays have brought about new work guidelines such as no use of personal computers, fewer meetings, and little to no distractions as possible to increase focus in the employees. Workers' have become happier due to the result in increased productivity and employees are spending less time at the office. In conclusion, shortening the workday to six hours will be beneficial overall to the companies that adopt it.
