Have you ever wanted to know what was in style in the 1920s? Would you want to be a fashion designer that has a brand that is still popular today? Well Coco Chanel was a fashion designer and icon during the 1920s. Chanel changed the way women dressed by using new techniques, materials, and designs. The 1920s is a decade that is known as the “Roaring 20s” because of the new ways of dressing and dancing. A popular symbol was a “Flapper who is a young women with short bobbed hair and short skirts” (History.comstaff). These young women were not classy and generally would drink and smoke. Women did not have many rights until the 1920s, “The 19th Amendment was added Constitution guaranteed women the right to vote” (History.comstaff). This is very important because it is the first time in American history that women could vote. Music and dancing became popular, “Jazz bands played at dance halls” (History.comstaff). This shows that people enjoyed singing and dancing, but always loved to watch it too. The 1920s was a decade where women got new rights and fashion also become a big deal.

Her father was a merchant and her mother did laundry for others” ( Hess 12). This is important because she never gave up on the wishes that she would fulfill later in her life. In addition, when she was only twelve she went through a tragic loss, “... her mother Jeanne died when she was only 33 and her father left her sisters and Gabrielle in a convent in the town of Aubazine” (Hess 12). She felt abandoned that no one cared about her. Lastly, her dad “sent his two sons to work on a farm as free laborers” (Vaughan 3). She had to create a new life and basically start over.
