Personalities Change Over Time

There are so many ways and reasons that people can change. You can change for love, passion, or to fit in. There are many more things that can change a person. I’m taking two stories and looking if the characters changed or stayed the same.

People can change, but what changes them. In the story “Once A Crook Always A Crook” Jimmy Valentine, the crook, is devising to rob a bank, but then he meets the love of his life ,the bank proprietor’s daughter. Coupled with the banker proprietor’s family when his other daughter gets stuck in the save he gives up his identity as a bank robber to get the bank owners daughter out of the safe. Additionally he changed from being a crook to a life saver. In addition to the “Once A Crook Always A Crook” story in the story of “The Man Eating Monster” the girl changed from being scared of the monster to saying it's her grandfather. Deciphering which theory of personality best describes Princess Diana was difficult. Her life seemed to be just beginning after marrying Prince Charles and becoming a mother. However, I did choose Erickson’s theory simply because his method extends throughout the life-span and is divided into different stages. The quantity of conflict within each stage determines the extremity. With each stage marked by inconsistencies, a successful resolution will result in a positive end result. From ages 6-11 you are considered early middle childhood. Around these ages you start changing your physical development by growing about 2 to 3 inches in height and 5 pounds in weight each year. A female body will mature quicker than the male body. Girls are slightly lighter and shorter than boys at ages 6-8, and then at age 9 it gets reversed. Around the middle childhood age the lower portion of the body is growing fastest, children appear to look long-legged. Girls end up having slightly more body fat and boys have more muscle. Grown-up deliberation is frequently more complicated and adaptive that youthful concept. Unlike adolescents, adult understand the contradictions inherent in thinking. They see both the possibilities and the problems in every course of action in deciding whether to start a new business, back a political candidate, move to a new place, or change jobs. Full-grown adults are more knowledgeable that youngsters or adolescents at creating logical resolutions and at correlating reason and generalization to actions, feelings, common concerns, and special affiliations. As they appreciate these relationships, their thought becomes more global, more concerned with broad moral and practical issues. The achievement of these new kinds of thinking reflects a stage of cognitive development that goes beyond Piaget’s formal operational period. In this stage, people’s thinking becomes dialectical, which means they understand that knowledge is relative, not absolute such that what is seen as wise today may have been thought foolish in times past. They see life’s contradictions as an inevitable part of reality, and they tend to weigh different solutions to problems rather than just accepting the first one that spring to mind.

Did you mature early, late, or “on time”? How did the timing of your maturation affect you psychologically?

Life experiences can change a person’s character. Those experiences can make a person better than they used to be, the characters will unlock a new mentality that they thought they never had. Also they better at conquering fears and obstacles. Characters in my novels go through lots of change as the stories progress. The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson, events change the character’s views and behavior throughout the novels. In the novels The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and Treasure Island, the main characters in the stories go through a change of personality from their adventures and journeys, encounters with obstacles and antagonists, and the completion of their trials.

In this paper I will try to elucidate how Maslow’s hierarchy of needs shows the extent to which growth needs influence personality formation, also put into words how biological factors influence the formation of personality. Observe the relationship of biological factors to Maslow’s theory as well as explain the basic aspects of humanistic theory that are incompatible with biological explanations of personality.

A suburban urban city, walking distance from the beach, quite neighborhood and most importantly safe. This is my neighborhood – and one that I am very lucky to be living in. Lucky because in a way it is secluded from all the scary realities that come along with living in a highly populated area, where walking home late at night is not so safe. The environment influences people. For the most part, our environments influence our daily decisions. As we grow older, more mature and are ready to trade “comfortable” for something more “exciting” we begin to develop new opinions and views on the world. I definitely agree with Dr. Mulloway’s findings. I had no clue that the order of birth could affect each child's personality. I definitely believe in younger child always being the spoiled one. And plus there is a big space in age difference between us and my younger sister she is 8 I'm 23 and my brother is 20. My brother was always the spoiled one being that he was younger than me but after our little sister came she became the spoiled one. We all shared different personalities. I was always the one that kept to myself. While my brother and sister are very outspoken. I remember when my sister was younger she would always follow me around wanting to be like me. There are many debates regarding nature vs. nurture starting with Plato and John Locke. Some such as Plato believe behavior and personality traits stem from ones genetics which are inherited from parents. Others such as John Locke believe one is born with a “blank slate” which means ones behavior and personality develops based on ones environment. Through examining the life of Justin Beiber, many influences of nature vs. nurture can be found; in addition the behaviorism theory can be applied to his life.

I believe the dismissal of the student was not valid. (1) The student was not conscious at the time that the crime was committed so I agree that he should not be held responsible. If the alter personality is a deviant personality and does not inform the host personality that can decide right from wrong of his actions, the host personality did not commit the crime. (2) Since the host personality is no longer in control once an alter personality surfaces, he should not be held accountable for the actions of someone that he is not in control of, even if they have the same body. In life, we typically expect people to stay the same as we first remember them to be. In “After Twenty Years,” by O. Henry one character, “Silky Bob,” finds out that this is not always the case. As the story unfolds, Bob reminisces to a policeman on the street about his old friend, Jimmy, and the vow that shared to meet each other again in twenty years. As the policeman leaves and Jimmy arrives a plot twist proves that people change sometimes for better others for worse as Bob is arrested and the policeman turned out to be his friend Jimmy. The author of “After Twenty Years,” uses characterization of James Wells to reveal the theme that all people change over time.

Change is inevitable when a certain amount of time passes; O. Henry makes this idea especially evident in his story “After Twenty Years.” In the tale, two friends cross paths once again after twenty years, only to discover that their lives are not the only thing that has changed over time. After two decades, the two have led different paths in life and new loyalties have developed; their close friendship is ultimately put to the test.

I believe that people can change a lot over time. This is coming from a person that has lost friends because of the way I was acting. Change can happen whether someone will believe it or not. People in my family do not like change, they think that if you have done something wrong you're permanently a bad person and you will never do the right thing again. My mom always told me to watch out for the kids that do drugs, drink and party all the time because those are the kids that will never grow up and never change their way of life. I didn't listen to her because I knew these kids had a chance at changing, they just liked to have fun. She thought it was a bad thing, but it was just some teenagers having a good time.
