I was faced with a challenge during baseball season my junior year in high school that changed the way that I look at life. As the starting shortstop for my varsity baseball team, I had this cocky swagger about me that let everyone know that I was the starter and that no one could take that honor from me. I believed that I didn’t need to put any effort into anything because everything came easy to me. My mistaken belief and cocky attitude flipped my baseball career upside down. I saw the two scariest words in my first class: “pop quiz.“ I was not prepared. That quiz was only the beginning of the chaos that was my day. I struggled through the rest of the day. I was looking forward to getting out on the field because that is where I felt most like myself. Stress and anxiety has a way of disappearing when I am in the game. I was especially excited for this game because I wanted to shake off the pop quiz and because I knew we had a good chance of winning that day. …show more content…
I raced out of the school parking lot, down Central Road, and found myself at my happy place, the baseball field. I raced into the dug out, looked at the lineup card for the game expecting to see my name as the starting shortstop. I was the everyday guy hitting second in the lineup for my team all year. But wait, I can’t find my name. This didn’t make any sense. My mind starts racing and I asked myself, am I on the bench?! In this crazy instant I realized the coach decided he was going to give my starting job to the backup. The backup. This was a conference game and I couldn’t believe that I had lost my spot to a kid who I believed couldn't field the ball if his glove was two miles wide. I was more than angry. I was outraged! I stormed back to my bag threw it on the ground and then proceed to go pout in the outfield while the other infielders took infield
The next morning I got a text message from one of my teammates the text read “Where are you Josh the game starts in ten minutes” I replied “I’m sorry I was dropped
I looked at the time and it was 11:30 am, time for me to start heading to the stadium. The game was
When I got outside the coach told me to go and play 1st base. While I was running to 1st base
Every kids dream is become a Professional Baseball Player. I still remember when I first started baseball, I was only 4 years old so young and small. Baseball has shown me how to use my head by focusing on everything. Growing up with baseball has changed my life dramatically, It taught me to become a smarter individual and a better athlete. Baseball has never let me down.
I felt completely alone and high school baseball was my opportunity to establish myself among my new peers confident from my previous experiences. I arrived at my new high school's baseball tryouts looking forward to success unbeknownst to me. I was hopeful too I'm prepared compared to the skills of the 60 dedicated Texas athletes enjoy his
As humans, we are given the special privilege of choice, especially in free countries like America. However, that is not always the case. Many ideas, beliefs, and preferences are pushed on us beginning at a very young age. We do not get to choose how we look, the abilities we have, or even sometimes our disabilities. It is what we CHOOSE to do with what we are given and even the things forced upon us.
This was a time when I was really anxious to get back on the field and be the best that I could possibly
The next person looked like he had something up his sleeve, and he indeed did, instead of kicking real far he kicked it softly and it only went a couple of inches but he took off and so did I but the problem was the pitcher was right there, but he didn’t notice me I ran and one of the other people told him and I charged as fast as I could, I knew this idea would either end the game for us or win the game for us, I charged and sure enough he got out of the way to not get hurt.
Everybody has memories they will never forget. The first of mine is playing baseball when I was six years old. My dad had always played sports and I wanted to follow in his footsteps. Baseball was my dream at a young age and it all started with the Tigers. I’ll always remember stepping onto the field for the first time and feeling the excitement rush through me. I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to be the team’s starting catcher. I liked the feeling of being in command behind the plate and felt like I had some sort of control over the game. I don’t remember a whole lot about the first game, but I do remember my first hit. I can tell you that I’ve never felt so excited in my life as I connected with the ball and began running to first base. I knew that made my dad extremely happy.
I got up and cleaned of my jersey. My team came up to me and started slapping my helmet, my jersey, and even by butt. This how my team celebrated.
There have been many different situations and many different people make changes in my life, but not many making a big influence. I would say the person who has been the biggest influence in my life would be my mom. She has taught me many life lessons and she has cared for me since day one. Another one of the biggest influences in my life would be the game of softball. I started playing softball when I was about five years old.
There have been many variables that have played a huge part in my life to make me the person I am today. Certain situations molded my character and hardened who I was destined to become. A major factor that is part of my genetic code and has helped me perceive the person I am destined to become is the game of baseball. There is something about this great, traditional game that has grasped onto me and never let go. Even as A little kid, I would always go with my cousin to the baseball field and be mesmerized as the game commenced and progressed. The older I got, the more love I grew for the game, and soon enough, the game became an escape from whatever seemed to trouble me. It became not only an addicting getaway but an exhilarating way to
I play football here at ULM and we have been in our fall camp for the last 23 days. It is a mental, physical, and emotional strain and tensions are running high. One day early on in camp we were out in the blistering heat practicing. We were almost finished when we called a screen pass and I was going to be the main blocker for the play and if I messed up it wouldn't work. Then as soon as the ball was snapped I stepped with the wrong foot first. This slowed me down and the defender was able to clobber our receiver behind the line of scrimmage. My position coach, Coach Clark, immediately ran over yelling, "What are you doing? Where is the direction you can't lose your man on that play?" I knew what I had done wrong, "I can't let him get up the
Since i was 6 years old i have been throwing and catching all sorts of balls. I first start-ed by playing baseball it was one of favorite things to play in this world. I consider baseball very important because it makes me think in the good old times with my father. Is a sport that help you create leadership and teamwork, but the most important the loving of the family. I remember running threw the field and hitting every base and just making it feeling that rush in my body. practice with the team at school was every other day at the park.
Sweat peaks out of my forehead, it trickles down the back of my neck. The sun beat down, its warmth filling the field. It was as if no one was there, the stillness of the air was so calming. Air flows through my nose and out through my mouth. My mind traveled back, the countless hours of drills, hard work, and dedication replayed in my mind. The National Anthem echoes throughout the stadium, and my nerves die down because in my heart I knew that no team was better prepared than our team was.
