Landscapes are pretty and all landscapes have different features that make it unique which causes people to find it attractive. The two landscapes that are going to be contrasting to each other are Yosemite and Gobi, two writers who describe in their passage the features of each landscape. 'The Incomparable Yosemite' by John Muir talks about Yosemite and its traits, "Excerpt: The Oriental Adventure" by Timothy Severin talks Gobi and its traits. Yosemite is a cheerful, lovely and majestic place while Gobi is a mysterious, full of surprises and not able to comprehend what will happen. In the passage 'The Incomparable Yosemite' by John Muir, the author describes Yosemite as a lovely, beautiful and majestic place due to the way it is formed. In the text it states, "Every rock in it's wall seems to glow with life." This evidence explains the form of the landscape which makes it unique and a sight you would want to see …show more content…
In the text it states, "...Camping overnight on the shore of another lake, the same expedition woke up when the wind, which had been steadily heaping up the water on one side of the lake..." This evidence explains that you don't know what to expect because sleeping next to a body of water then waking up to it not being there is a shocking thing to expect. In the text it also states,"It is a place where in the 1920s a scientific expedition found dinosaur eggs lying exposed on the ground like the fossilized clutches of monstrous..." This evidence proves that this landscape is full of surprises and you don't know what to expect because when finding fossli, people usually dig and search to find fossli but this time they found it out in the open. Although Gobi is a landscape full of surprises, it is still a wonderful place to make discoveries and learn new
The first chapter of the book discusses the way we can use fossil records to study the biological world. Fossils are one of the major lines of evidence we use to understand ourselves. Surprisingly, we are able to discover them with a high amount of precision and predictability. In particular, field paleontologists have it easier than it has ever been before due to the current information age. The physical hunt for important fossils, however, is much like it has always been. Three factors limiting the number of useful fossil sites include rock age, type (whether or not it can preserve fossils), and number of exposed rocks. So, it takes a bit of luck to reliably find fossils. Thankfully, rock
Four days and 1,304 miles can be the experience of a lifetime. Driving through California, up to the forest was breathtaking. I saw trees mix together until massive trees towered over us. Although the trees are tall and straight, they have knots and grooves in the bark. Some of the trees have rough char marks from past fires. The gigantic trees are thick around the base and rise like skyscrapers; the canopy blocking out the sun. The forest air has a sense of damp earth and nature with cool mist everywhere; the surroundings are calm and relaxing.
Generally when one thinks of the American west their mind jumps to an image of untouched, unspoiled land, such as the land that is represented by America’s national parks. These tourist destinations in the West showcase the history of our nation’s land in a way that many people assume is and has always been the reality, but although the natural beauty of these lands is represented perhaps the beauty of the cultures that used to inhabit them is not.
The first time I every experience the Wildcat Hills was during a difficult time in my life. My parents were going through a custody battle over my siblings and me. They were also both in the process of being remarried. So, when my step father brought us to the Wildcats to explore for the first time I realized how amazing our earth can be. Here in the county known for the Scotts Bluff National Monument, sits over 1,000 acres of land. It wasn’t just the sight at the top of the escarpment that took my breath away. It was the fact that whether you were at the bottom of the hills or the top, when the wind blew that’s all you can hear. It isn’t overwhelming, it is
Yosemite National Park is a spectacular natural wonder. Outdoor enthusiasts of all ages flock to this area of California every year. Since the parks establishment, it has been a worldwide tourist attraction. Upon entering the park, travelers are greeted by marvelous, majestic views. Once in Yosemite, serenity can be found. Yosemite is decidedly one of the nation’s vast beauties.
Additionally, the rural landscape, with its sprawling fields and winding
The Central Valley is occupied by many beautiful places and sceneries that many people do not realize how this came to be. One of the most astonishing places in the Central Valley is Yosemite Valley where the rise of the Sierra Nevada occurred. The preservation of Yosemite Valley is one of the reasons why this astounding scenic view still exists today. The formation of Yosemite Valley took place many years ago and not a lot has changed since this formation in recent years. Many people saw how beautiful Yosemite Valley was and its amazing view is what encouraged people to protect this picturesque place. If people had not preserved and protected Yosemite Valley maybe it would not be how it is today and many people would not have access to see how truly scenic it is. They have given us the opportunity to be able to go and visit Yosemite Valley and learn about the history that is has. Yosemite Valleys’ geological history is truly mind blowing in connection with the people that made it possible for this place to exist.
The landscape is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen. The mountain ranges that wrap around the land makes you feel like you’re in a giant bowl. The beaches are beautiful, if you have been to Cancun you’ll know what I mean. Another gorgeous landscape are the perfectly geometrical Prismas Basalticos located in Pachuca, Hidalgo.
On the surface, they appear very similar, but someone more experienced with landscape variation and how they are formed, would be able to see the difference. The largest difference between the parks lies underneath. To a certain point all three parks were formed the same, but the tectonic activity behind this formation is the main driver of all the differences found. Underneath the Sierra range there is one giant solid granite base. This creates a large flat shelf that was tilted, causing a sloping effect. This large slab of granite was formed when a huge section of the earths crust broke away from the rest creating its own new fault lines. This large broken piece was then pushed up and west, and this slow process continues on in the present day. So in Yosemite and the rest of the Sierra range the underlying granite is broken into many smaller segments, allowing magma activity to intrude from many different internal locations. The size of the segments is where the small differences
When my dad first talked to me about Yosemite, he described it as “the most epic place on earth.” I thought it would be pretty, but I never predicted how unreal it would actually be. My experience there was one I can never fully put into words. It was liberating, refreshing, and calming. I felt like a light inside of me had been lit again.
Throughout history there have been many scenarios where people's power influenced the decisions of others. However, there are three different types of power. We have seen these types of power in many stories. In these stories people can obtain their power through social class, gender, and race. In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee power is a key component. This is shown when a women named Mayella Ewell accuses a black man of raping her. Mayella is powerful in regards to er race; however, she is not powerful in regards to gender and social class.
It was John Muir one of the first advocates for the national park idea who developed the idea and also scientific theory that Yosemite Valley had been carved by glaciers. Muir was a very spiritual person coming from a religious family in which his father was a itinerant Presbyterian minister. John Muir had such a huge love and appreciation for nature, and being the religious man that he was he believed that “God is revealed
At this time, I was fully aware that the environment changed based on geographical location, however, witnessing it firsthand excited me more than the Biltmore estate itself. The artists or creative minds as Campbell called them in my opinion aren’t always physical beings, as nature itself is extremely creative. Nature is the natural way the world has been shaped without the impact of humans and mountains are a structure that exhibits this. Identifying with these creations, whether manmade or otherwise, help people understand complex ideas of creation. Through creative minds, these complex ideas are simplified into drawings and stories which are often considered as the cave wall paintings point out the patterns and behaviors of early humans in ways that only word of mouth cannot.
Do you know where the highest waterfall in North America is? Do you know where the mountains still grow 1 foot every 1000 years? Both of these facts are true in Yosemite National Park.
The use of drugs by people driving cars is increasing . The use of alcohol is going down. In 1973, 7.5 percent of drivers had blood alcohol level of .08 or higher. In the new survey, the percent of people driving above the legal alcohol limit had fallen to 2.2 percent. Breath, saliva, and blood samples came from randomly selected drivers in 300 locations around the United States. Screening for drugs was a new part of the study. The survey screened for marijuana, cocaine and prescription drugs. The survey found that 16.3 percent of nighttime weekend drivers tested positive for drugs. Nearly 9 percent had used marijuana. Nearly 4 percent tested positive for cocaine. About the same number had used prescription drugs. The drug tests do not
