Accepting where one comes from can affect one’s life in so many different ways. The novel, “the house on mango street” by Sandra Cisneros is composed of how much a negative view of that person's self can affect them in their lives. Coming to terms with where you come from can affect someone's life so much. As you grow up your always wondering to yourself where you stand in life. Esperanzas negative view of herself slowly changes as she begins to focus on her larger community and her place within it. Through this, Cisneros shows that knowing and accepting where one comes from is an important part of growing up and determining one’s identity. Someone should never think negative about where they stand or about who they are in life. As someone lives their life, they should always try to be positive about all aspects of themselves. “My name…it means sadness”(Cisneros 13). This quote connects to the main idea that by not being negative and accepting where one comes from can help that person in their everyday life. This is also explained in the thesis itself. This quote connects to the thesis that accepting where one comes from and who they are is an important part of …show more content…
When life brings someone down, by standing tall that person is standing up to the thing that's bringing them down. By standing tall that person creates a better life for themselves. “Esperanzas fat face...esperanzas ugly face…”(Cisneros 26). This quote connects to the main idea that no matter what life throws at someone that they must stand tall in remembering where they come from and who they are. This quote connects to the thesis that accepting where one comes from and who that person is. Is important towards growing up because if someone were to stand tall no-matter what life throws at them then that can lead to who that person becomes in life. Be someone that stands up for what they believe is true. Whether about themselves or other

In the book The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros, the protagonist realizes many things in chapter, The Monkey Garden. Ms, Cisneros uses imagery to contribute to the story by setting the scene for us. “Yellow spiders ran when… so many crusty lady bugs.” The quote shows us the garden the protagonist loves. It demonstrates to us, that even though it is full of bugs, she loves it.
This quote intrigues me because it makes me connect to the author about life today. In this chapter Cathy shows who the truly is as a person. She thinks that just because Rachel and Lucy “smell” or look different than she does that Esperanza should not be friends with them. She does this quite often. I can infer this because of the author’s use of a simile. Cathy makes fun of her neighbors trying to act like she is better than them in a way. However, I think this quote shows Esperanzas true self. No matter what Cathy says about Rachel and Lucy, she likes them and no matter what they look like, she wants to be friends with them. This is a lot like today's society. There are some people who judge people on their looks, but, like Esperanza, there
