The meaning of marriage in Hopi (Native American) tribe: Native American cultures are filled with many different tribes, which have their own distinct customs and traditions in which a marriage is held. Just like in Hinduism and Christianity, it is very hard to categorize just one aspect of a wedding to be Native America, because even different tribes have similar common procedures, while also being unique when compared to each other. If a marriage takes place in the Native American formal way, then they are seen to be celebrated with feasts and gatherings. One thing that is very symbolic in all tribes is that Water, which is for cleansing and purification of the body and soul. Before a wedding ceremony takes place the groom and bride are seen washing hands representing the washing away of past sins, evils, and memories of past love. The procedure for this particular tribe marriage is initiated once a young girl reaches the age of adolescence (hits puberty), if and when she decides to marry a boy/man, she gives him an invitation and a certain type of bread (loaf of Gomi). If he accepts the invitation for marriage, then he said to leave a bundle of fine clothes and white buckskin moccasins at the entrance of her door. The young man will have to option to either deny or accept the proposal which is a great thing.
