Honesty In Khaled Hosseini's The Kite Runner

The book “ The Kite Runner” has a lot of themes to offer but each person experiences a different theme. The book is based on a man whose past contributes to everything his future has to offer. Every choice he has ever made has an outcome. Khaled Hosseini’s novel , The Kite Runner , teaches the reader that honesty is important in order to have an effective relationship through Amir lying on Hassan and Baba withholding information about him and Hassan that was important. My thesis supports the overall theme because there are lots of life changing, traumatic secrets that need to be told but aren’t told until it’s far too late. Amir’s 12th birthday has just passed and Baba had bought him lots of expensive and sentimental gifts. As a scheme to get rid of Hassan , Amir framed him as if he stole his money and expensive watch. Thinking Baba would make Hassan and Ali leave after this incident , Amir told his dad and Hassan told him that he did it , even though he didn’t. Baba’s reaction surprised Amir and angered him, he forgave Hassan. At this point Amir knows he’s wrong and simply admits he was a liar. Ali also moves away with Hassan. Hosseini states “I was a liar, a cheat, and a thief” (Hosseini 105). In other words , Hosseini shows the reader that Amir is conscious of his doing ,although Hassan was extremely loyal to him. This regards to honesty because if Amir was just honest from that point on he could have both redeemed himself and their family situation wouldn’t have gotten that far. In addition, years later after Amir is married Baba dies of cancer. He soon finds out Rahim Khan , his dad’s best friend is also dying. Rahim Khan requests that Amir comes visit him while he’s in his last days. Amir goes and he finds out that Hassan has been staying with him to help him due to Ali’s death.
