Homosexuality has become a vital topic of discussion throughout the modern world. In this paper, I talk about how my own perception regarding homosexuality has changed over a period of time. Firstly, I will provide an overview of my cultural background and my initial understanding regarding homosexuality. Secondly, I will elaborate on how my views and perception of homosexuality have evolved over time. Lastly, I will analyze what led to my belief regarding homosexuality at first place and what catalyzed the change in those beliefs eventually. Therefore, this paper is a reflection on my own evolution of perception regarding homosexuality.
My current view on homosexuality vastly differs from my understanding of homosexuality as a child. My views have slowly changed over the course of many years through different exposures and learnings. I was born in a South Asian community. I do not recall knowing the term “homosexuality” as a child. The idea of homosexuality simply did not exist in the perception of people around me. There were only two genders, male and female. This could be one of the reasons that I never had a negative belief regarding homosexuality as I was never introduced to its concept as a child, weather, good or bad. The concept closest to homosexuality that I remember encountering as a child was intersex. According to Intersex Society of North America (2008), “Intersex” is a general term used for a variety of conditions in which a person is born with a
Many scientists have a difficult time understanding homosexuality on the evolutionary aspect. They believe a human beings’ main purpose is reproduction, which makes the sexual relationship between two males a confusing concept for most evolutionary thinkers (McKnight 1). Evolutionary thinkers believe that the less desirable genes are removed from the system when they are not breed as often, but this cannot be said for homosexual males who have been a continuing presence in most societies over numerous generations (McKnight 1). These evolutionary thinkers, like most humans, have a need to place others into
In “The Myth of Homosexuality” by Christine Downing, there is the discussion of homosexuality and its meaning over the years. Downing begins the article by stating how a myth has classified women-on-women and men-on-men relationships to fall under the same term of homosexuality, but there is much deeper understanding to it than that. The classification under one word has caused a lot of shaping concerning how they are viewed or how they view themselves. In order to look past the surface of what defines the myth, Downing states that we must start with the culture’s myth and it’s origin.
Although Macbeth was of noble blood, his belief in fate will be the fatal flaw to bring on his downfall. First, three witches plan to meet with Macbeth who upon meeting state, “All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter.” Yet Macbeth doesn’t know it at this point that he will have to go through a tragic suffering to do so. Soon after he becomes Thane of Cawdor he and Lady Macbeth dirty their hands with Duncan's blood so Macbeth could become king. Second, Macbeth’s lineage was of Scottish royalty. Macbeth was the cousin of the king, Duncan, whom he was very close to before the deed had been done. Killing the king brought mental suffrage to Macbeth and his wife both. While feeling He also ordered the murders of Macduff’s family and Banquo
Nature; all things belong to Mother Nature; the trees, the flowers, insects, the great waters, animals, and even the human race; all following the laws of nature that we are instinctively born with. However somewhere along the line something or someone defies those laws and go against what nature intended. Whether or not this rebellion is fostered by nurture, or if there is an exception to the laws that Mother Nature has set forth is a question that psychologist and many people have encountered and most have yet to find the answer. Homosexuality has been thought of as being something that some are born with and others believe it is a learned behavior. Whether or not nature or nurture is the cause
Not just a century ago, there was an act that was considered heresy; homosexuality, a different side of sexuality found in all recesses of history. Humans are not the only ones with evidence of homosexuality in their species, it has long been debated whether it was formed from being genetically born that way or nurtured. The long found history has been only puzzling as the two sides of the spectrum in views, and only being publicly accepted in the 1940s. In Natasha Tracy’s article “Why Are People Gay? Gay By Choice or Is Being Gay Genetic?” where she goes on to discuss the legitimacy of its authenticity in being a homosexual. From the views of being born or in fact the way humans are brought up determines their sexuality, criticizing in the end the matter of sexuality is a matter to the individual and should not be criticized in any way.
I'm sure that all of you know what I'm talking about when I refer to the new law that has been made within this past two weeks. And I have been holding off on writing lately, because I wanted to be sure that I said all the right things, as this is a very sensitive subject. But I want to start out by saying that I do not hate homosexuals. I do not agree with their life choices, but I most certainly do not hate anyone. Homosexuality is a sin just like any other (1 Corinthians 6:9-10). Having said that, I don't think that that means that we should accept homosexuality, but hate those other sins just as much. If we viewed all these other sins the way that we view homosexuality, and we couldn't even fathom the thought of committing them, then how much easier would our Christian walk be?
Science is uncovered origins a lot of things over the centuries and the human created much great inventions and even explored the surface of the moon; however, one question still on everyone’s mind and science may have solved one of greatest mysteries yet which is: how did homosexuality and heterosexuality evolve? Many psychologist, biologist and scientist may agree with sexual orientation is output from a combination of biological, hormonal, environmental and emotional factors and those many factors that influence to a development of human sexual orientation. However, being homosexual or bisexual is not mentally ill or abnormal in certain ways, although sexual minority is part of social problems that makes output from misinformation or prejudicial attitude. Diversity in sexual orientation has been a subject that has been seen in different perspectives by the different people (LeVay, 2010). Today there are the homosexuals, heterosexuals and bisexuals orientated people are forming a part of our society. This paper conduct an overall study of important and strong factors and provides accurate information and explanation for those who want to better understand development of sexual orientation.
Homosexuality is not a 20th century situation but has been in history from the age of ancient Rome, Greece, Egypt, and even China. The attitude toward homosexuality always has been a variable, depending on the social, cultural and morality, or even the political development (Barnecka et al., 2005). Back in Greek history the concept of relations between two men was seen as the highest form of love, whereas the Judaic view always was against and frowned upon these relations considering it immoral and illegal. However, when the Roman rule was destroyed and the Christians took over Europe, homosexuality was seen as perverse (Woodward, 1997).
A clarification of some falsehoods related to homosexuality is also mentioned. It is hoped that this essay will make people in society of Hong Kong better understand homosexuals and decrease discriminations, prejudices and misunderstandings towards them.
When I think of LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer) group, I cannot really relate to them at all because I am a straight female. I also have different beliefs about the group. I do not choose to ridicule anyone just because they are different but I do stay true to what I believe in. Despite my beliefs, I was very open to their discussion and tried to relate and understand where they were coming from. During the session, I realized that many people in the LGBTQ community suffer ridicule every day, want to change how the LGBTQ community is looked upon, and struggle with identity.
Very few parents expect their children to be different. Some of them even dread the thought of the day they discover that their little girl or their little boy is starkly different from their peers, and even their family. The day their child comes out, whether expected or not, could provoke any sort of mixed feelings. However, the child is the one who has to break the news; they have to sit their parents down, to tell them they are in the LGBT+ community, and try to hold back tears at their parents’ reaction, whether it is being overjoyed that they are accepted so readily or being heartbroken at the disapproval in the eyes of their biggest role models. The LGBT+ community is there to comfort and support those who experience this, whether they are a child kicked out of their house or a young adult who hasn’t spoken to their family since they moved out. This community is misunderstood and portrayed as weak, when in reality, the people in this community I am a part of are some of the strongest people I have ever met.
The nature and nature of homosexuality is heavily debated. Some people believe that homosexuality is biologically determined and others believe it’s base on ones environment. This topic can be argue to be base on both nature and nurture. Studies conducted in the past decades support both the biological and environmental aspect of homosexuality.
“All men are created equal, No matter how hard you try, you can never erase those words,” Harvey Milk. A homosexual, as defined by the dictionary, is someone of, relating to, or characterized by a tendency to direct sexual desire toward another of the same sex. Homosexuality is ethical, and I will provide rational arguments for, and irrational arguments against the topic. A few objections are as follows: It is forbidden in the Bible and frowned upon by God; It is unnatural; Men and women are needed to reproduce; There are no known examples in nature; and the most common argument that concerns homosexuality is whether it is a choice or human biology.
Today many people have their own opinions and beliefs when it comes down to the topic of gay marriage. I personally feel that gay marriage should be legalized. Yes God said, “That marriage is to be between a man and a woman.” My question is, “What gives people the right to judge or tell another human-being who to love or how to love?” I personally feel it’s insulting to one’s integrity and people should be able to express their love how they see fit.
The battles that the LGBT community faces every day are something most people aren’t familiar with. For me however it’s a different story. The LGBT community is a community looking for wider acceptance and understanding. Every morning someone who is lesbian, gay, transsexual, or transgender has to wake up and face the daily battles of living this lifestyle. They have to fight for equality and have hope they won’t get shorthanded just because of how they live their life. It’s becoming easier for people to be okay with what they are, but it’s still not fully accepted. It’s a constant battle in the minds of people who don’t feel supported by their loved ones, or they feel like they can’t be who they truly want to be. In reality of the whole situation, we’re all human, rich or poor, straight or part of the LGBT community. So why is there still fear in people? And why can’t we all just let everyone be happy?
