Unethical, wrong, disgusting, and disgusting, these are the words people who are homosexual are told every day and are told to be portrayed. The media has been negatively representing people who are homosexuals since decades. One big media tactic that is used is social media , social media allows to have people express their own opinions and have discussions on them. Another huge media tactic is television. Television is a popular thing in the common household and has many shows that can influence the mind on many different topics. A final huge influential tactic is your own family and their beliefs. Homosexuality has been discriminated and negatively represented which led me to form my opinion. Social media is a worldwide concept and is used by many in this generation. I have witness post on twitter about homosexuality and how those kind of people are unethical and wrong for what they feel. The two huge social media websites I used was Twitter and Facebook and both of them show negative posts towards homosexuality. A example of this is they compare homosexuality to the concept of Adam and Eve, when they say this person tend to say it's not Adam and Adam or vice versa. The comparison always was between religion and homosexuality. This struck me hard to read these posts because my family …show more content…
Television portrays people who are homosexual to the extreme and negatively. In shows with a gay or lesbian character they tend to show them in an opposite genre than what they originally are. An example, if the character is gay they represent him as more feminine than being manly. This also goes with lesbians because they tend to portray them more manly than feminine. Also in television, they have shows that are biased on subjects like certain news show. When I say this as a kid they made me believe that being homosexual was wrong and people were always going to judge you or hate
The inaccurate or lacking representations of LGBTQ people in media results in misconceptions about the community. Media, such as literature, television, and music, particularly those targeted towards middle
Popular television shows aids to heavily influence American audiences, perpetuating, and problematic ideas about homosexuality. Not all mainstream media adheres to traditional social ideas. South Park uses satire to deconstruct heteronormative views on homosexuality. Therefore, homosexuality is accepted more widespread through use of mainstream media.
Laramie consisted of many other religions that presented the views of many of their citizens towards homosexuality. Reverend Fred Phelps, a minister from Kansas, negatively impacted the gay community as he protested against homosexuals. He believed gays were determined to go to hell because of God’s hatred for them. Reverend Phelps like McKinney was a homophobe, which upset many citizens when he ranted about gays going to hell right after the murder of Matthew Shepard. Many citizens including Romaine Patterson decided to take a stance against such hatred to “show the differences. And [to] think at times like this when we’re talking about hatred as much as the nation is right now, that someone needs to show . . . that there is a better way of
The book, I Know Who You Are and I Know What You Did, by Lori Andrews, states that social network as in Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, Instagram, Snapchat, and etc. causes conflict in many aspects of life. In today society, social media seems to reveal more a more negative side of the public. Andrews also states that social media is a distraction to every aspect of life including job careers, education, politics, religion, family, and even death. Invading privacy on social media and violating rights of others can cause disturbing commotion and could lead to prosecution. People should use discretion when posting online, and make sure not to post anything purposely offensive or distasteful and graphic content.
The 1970s was considered the “Me Decade” because of the increasing amount of individuality that people were beginning to exhibit. Americans started discussing important issues, such as divorce and gender roles but remained silent on the subject of sexuality. One of the reasons was because television in the 20th century hardly mentioned homosexuality. The idea was considered taboo, and many Americans were not comfortable or familiar with this issue, much less talking about it. In recent decades, Americans have made tremendous progress towards the acceptance of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people in just forty years because of the television programs that have introduced Americans to these types of people. Many of the individuals that belong to either one of these categories have long struggled for equality and respect, just as other minorities have in the past, and continue to do so. Although American culture is more focused on individuality than conformity in today's times, the idea of what is “normal” is still an issue for many people. However, more television programs are bringing awareness to the idea of homosexuality, which makes for the gradual acceptance of it. The increasing amount of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender characters portrayed on television programs in today’s society has helped change the views of many Americans into embracing gay individuals into their lives. People are also more accepting of same-sex relationships or marriages and are

Social Media is a form of communication in which a person shares information, personal ideas, and thoughts online. The foundation of social media began in 1997 when the first social media site Six Degrees was developed. Since 1997, social media has become an iconic name and has become part of this generation's conversation. There are over 100 million people using social media to gain access to the digital world, with over 20 social media sites including Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, and Instagram (Milanovic 1). Roughly 80 percent of teens and 20 percent of adults use social media daily and almost half of the users were bullied or criticized for a single comment. Comments that include discrimination, sexism, or political beliefs can be retweeted to thousands in a matter of hours. “Accusations go viral, globally, within hours, and instead of having dozens of angry voices baying for your blood, you have tens of thousands” (Haley 1). Although social media has made it easier to communicate these sites, make it easier to be critical or prejudiced to others online instead of face-to-face.
even though sexuality can be considered universal, the sexual behaviors affiliated with it offer different attitudes in various communities. Sexuality is aligned to sexual attraction where individuals can identify themselves with a broad range of sexuality that is bisexual, gay or being lesbian. Sexuality can change over time in a person depending on the circumstances surrounding him or her. It may be affected by the social circle and emotional imbalances that may occur in an individual. Interestingly there exists sexual inequality among many societies in the world. As observed, many societies encourage men to have multiple sex partners but forbid it in women. Moreover, pre-marital sex is promoted in men, but women are flaunted if they participate in pre-marital sex. Across the globe, Western Europe has embraced certain norms in sexuality such as homosexuality whereas African society embraces a negative attitude towards the same.
Homelessness is all over the nation-- like an epidemic, it invades the lives of unsuspecting people, college students and veterans being a subsection of the homeless population affected. A staggering 5,600 college students nationwide are homeless or living in their cars, with the numbers increasing yearly (Gregory). Our brave veterans put their lives on the line to protect this country and go overseas with the government’s false promise that once they return from war, they’ll have an enormous pension, but once they return, the only things waiting for them are the cold streets. No sane human being would ask to be left without shelter and sustenance, but what if by a tragic incident, one day all your belongings are gone and the only items
As the years have gone by, you can see the change of how gays and lesbians are widely seen in mostly every tv show or movie in today’s society. This is something most of our own parents didn’t even grow up seeing gays throughout the media. Living in today’s time period, you’re able to see how the influence has changed the way people see gays and lesbians. The nation has become more accepting of the gay and lesbian culture verses back in the days of when our parents and even grandparents were our age. Not only was is rare to see homosexuals on television, it was portrayed negatively, and now you can see it portrayed positively.
Many television shows have transgender characters portrayed offensively, which clearly demonstrates a widespread problem. Transgender
For example, a gay male may not be welcomed in a party due to his sexual orientation. It is only a question of ethics. Homosexuals are also put as either victims or villains in movies. They are depicted as belonging to a weird or foreign culture that cannot be tolerated. It is rare to have a movie that has the main character being gay or lesbian.
We have read the Anglo-Saxon poem of Beowulf and watched the movie of Beowulf and Grendel. These two manifestations of one event have rather great differences in the characteristics and behavior of their characters. The movie seems to show the actual events of the tale while the poem seems to capture the events in an exaggerated and praiseful way towards Beowulf’s actions. In the movie, the poem’s narration is actually by a Geat, one of Beowulf’s men. The tales differ because of exaggeration and lack of presence in some events by the Geat.
The world change day by day and we as a men, we keep improving and enhance our knowledge. We will use different way of view to judge whether it is positive, negative, ethical or unethical. In this society, we have a LGBT community which stand for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender. The unique of this community is they like person who are same sex with them, in other word is homosexual. In the past, the acceptance toward same sex love or gay marriage is very low but now the acceptance of the society toward this them is increase. Everyone has their right to love someone they loved, the love they give to their partner is same as how we love the one we loved. They having a ‘gay’ gene and environment and social factors influence, (Sarah K., 2014). We should respect on the decision that they made for their current life and also their future. We have no right on judging or controlling their life when they are being themselves. In these few years, most of the people accept them especially for the Generation Y. Their acceptance is higher than the Generation Y that is why Generation Y will comfort “with the whole gay thing”, (Jonathan D.L., 2013)
A major reason for the fear and objection towards homosexuality is organized religion. Whether we notice it or not, we as humans follow many everyday concepts from the Bible. Examples would be, to not steal, murder, or commit adultery in marriage. The Bible also states that homosexuality is unethical and should be avoided as other sins. These are all great to follow, if you conform to the rules of the Bible. Religious back up should not be used in order to deem something wrong or unethical. It is essential to understand, to deem homosexuality ethical or not, rational decision-making must occur. One must analyze the pros and cons; if the pros outweigh the cons, homosexuality is ethical, and visa versa. One who explicitly follows an organized religion must follow the rules of a higher power (God). Getting rid of this obstacle will leave room for autonomous decisions on homosexuality, and eventually its place in good ethics.
