Finding the bad example of critical thinking was a lot quite easy as anticipated, there's a lot of dumb stuff on the internet. The article i happened to stumble upon was published on a website called emaso.com the artical was called Pedophilia more common among 'gays' Research purports to reveal 'dark side' of homosexual culture it was based on a paper called “Child Molestation and the Homosexual Movement by Steve Baldwin in this paper he talks about the pedopillia being more common in the gay community. This article is bad information because it's completely based on bias not facts. There was no studies or actual proof to support his claim he was just stating his opinion and ideas. The idea that there's some kind of connection between homosexuals …show more content…
We make assumptions about things all the time, and it's not in our nature to take a step back for a moment and assess what's really going on. Like we learned in class critical thinking does not come natural for us. So it's our job to make sure our thinking does not completely run on stereotypes and bias. When I was reading these articles this kind of resonated with me because I was raised muslim, and in islam the practice of being gay is not allowed. Of Course people who are gay are born that way but the sin is following through with your temptations and sleeping with another man/women. Im sure this is the case with other religions, but the people who follow these religions inert their own ideas and bias. They want to deny the fact that people can be born gay, even though it doesn't say in the quran that people can't be born gay. So they make up fake stories and write fake articles to get people to follow their points. If we use our critical thinking we would never fall victim to crazy stories people make on the internet. Of course we're only human so being rational is out the box, we only want to read something we agree
Colombo expresses that “Cultural Myths as Obstacles to Critical Thinking” (Colombo, p.4). Cultural Myths will throw different obstacles in the mix, and put people in different categories: Either men or women, heterosexuals or homosexuals. As adults people worry more and care about different categories and when the adult was a child they do not care about the categories. Being a good critical thinker will give her a good opportunity in seeing the difference in the world.
Are you in need of a new air conditioner because the old unit is not really cooling down your home? If so, you do not want to make the mistake of getting an AC unit that is too big. A large air conditioner will not automatically make your home colder, since it can cause a lot of problems that may require you eventually get the proper size air conditioner anyway. These are the problems you could run into with an air conditioner that is oversized.
The objective of an adversarial system and an inquisitorial system is similar, but the path to justice is very different. The terms adversarial and inquisitorial are used to describe types of justice systems in which represent common law and civil law respectively. The adversarial system is a legal system where two parties’ positions are represented before an unbiased judge or a jury who attempt to determine the truth behind the case. In an inquisitorial system, a judge contributes to the preparation of evidence along with how the different parties are to present their case at the trial. The judge plays the role of finding the truth and all the evidence that either proves the innocence or guilt of the accused. The adversarial system is clearly the more impartial and accurate way to determine the truth within a case.
In his published 1968 article printed by the Village Voice, Seymour Krim’s, Revolt of the Homosexual, converses with a fictitious ‘straight guy’ to reduce the preconceived notions of the life of homosexuals, and insisted that it is a natural behavior. This was a bold action considering that homosexuality at the time was considered an aberration or a disease. He challenged the theory that being gay is a sickness, and he desired a right for all homosexuals to not be criminalized, as long as it does not conflict actual harm on another person. Basically, he demands a ‘simple human right’, and believes that if the oppression continues then homosexuals will gradually start to stand against it because they are tired of having to hide- just like how
Critical thinking is a vital task that must be done in our everyday lives. In “Becoming a Critic Of Your Thinking” found at criticalthinking.org, Dr. Linda Elder and Dr. Richard Paul explain critical thinking as “the disciplined art of ensuring that you use the best thinking you are capable of in any set of circumstances”. Even tough there are many different types of methods to achieve a better quality of critical thinking, Dr. Elder and Dr. Paul discuss four specific ones in the article. All strategies, however, force you to put yourself in an uncomfortable and difficult position to develop a better quality of thinking.
It was this very brand of thinking that would eventually lead to homosexuality being classified as a disease by the
In every corner of the world, the topic of homosexuality sparks controversy from both supporters and opponents of the sexual orientation. Merriam Webster’s dictionary defines a homosexual as “being sexually attracted to people of the same sex.” The underlying influence from historical, sociological, and health disciplines are just a few reasons such a large gap exists on the spectrum between supporters and opponents of homosexuality. This paper serves as an analysis of the previously mentioned disciplines with gathered data from a variety of scholarly journals. Based on the grounds of historical, sociological, and health disciplines, it would be far too ethnocentric, discriminatory, and physically unhealthy for society to reject homosexuality as an individual’s choice in a way of life.
"The social argument for homosexuality dates back to the ancient Greeks. Aristophanes, in his Symposium investigates homosexuality, although not termed as such, as a desire by men to share a long-term fulfillment of the soul. He believed that two souls are longing to be together, and the sexual desire alone is not strong enough to create homosexuality, but that the cultural environment allows or forbids the relationship to occur" (Heffner, 2003). The debate about homosexuality dates back further than expected. However, it does not matter how far back it goes, there is still the same result, homosexuality is not biological and homosexuals are not "born this way". "Groups supporting gay and lesbian relationships [did not emerge] until after World War II," (Morris, 2015). Research being done today to prove that homosexuality is biological has yet to have solid evidence to support that theory. Therefore, the start up of these groups were quite unnecessary. Homosexuality, at most, is a psychological disorder, meaning it is all in the person 's head. It can be caused by a multitude of things and can be changed with a little help from others. Although there is no irrefutable evidence regarding the origins of sexual preference there is significant historical and sociological support, that homosexuality is environmentally derived.
In both of the texts, they cover the topic of homosexuality, but in very different ways. In text A, the idea of lesbianism is described by Evelyn as an ‘abnormality’, suggesting that being a lesbian is frowned upon, and considered strange. Evelyn also uses a euphemism to describe lesbianism, showing that the topic of being gay is a very taboo subject that most people don’t want to hear about, suggesting again that lesbianism is considered bad in this time. Because homosexuality is described as a negative thing, we can understand that this text was most likely written a while ago, as societies attitudes towards homosexuality has changed in recent years, and is now viewed as a positive thing. However, in text B, there is also mentions of lesbianism, but in a more direct way, as a dysphemism. The questioner states in the question that she thought that she ‘was
Compulsory heterosexuality is defined as the dominant norm for sexual orientation, thus to take on any other form of sexual orientation outside the norm is seen as a deviant act.1 This means that everything we perceive and everything we process in the world around us is seen through a heteronormative lens. My question is, does society play a role in creating this heteronormative views, or are humans naturally inclined or already born with such ideologies? Feminist theorist Judith Butler states that binary gender roles are outdated, and then develops the a feminist theory in which she merges gender and performativity. In an interview with XYZ, Butler stated in an interview suggests that gender performativity or gender in general proves to be
In a time of social change and modernity, homosexuality has become a more talked about social topic, and it has evolved into its own culture. With growing numbers and heavy legality and morality surrounding it, homosexuality has faced an uphill battle all throughout the world. Part of the “problem” people see with homosexuality is not understanding its origins. Homosexuality is an unusual trait in the sense that it is not one that you would expect to persist evolutionarily as it does not directly contribute to reproduction, and yet it has persisted for at least thousands of years, tracing back to the ancient Greeks and Romans in recorded history (Verstraete, 1977). Its continued appearance in each successful generation, even though it seems counterintuitive from an evolutionary perspective, provides strong reasoning to suggest some mechanism is helping to maintain it as a trait. Clearly homosexuality is a complex characteristic that involves genetic, cultural, and environmental factors. Many interpretations of these factors exist, so this paper will piece together the factors of homosexuality to allow for better understanding of how homosexuality has persisted as a genetic trait. Evidence regarding the birth order affect and the maternal stress theory will also be analyzed. The importance of this topic lies in the individuals themselves. Getting to the bottom of this question and showing the genetic factors surrounding homosexuality would illuminate the
In fact, investigators found that children of gay and lesbian couples to be healthier and have a stronger family unit (Lizette Borreli). By the children being “automatically” gay the parents and family understand already of the children’s future relations. Homosexuality is not a mental disorder and the APA opposes all portrayals of lesbian , gay and bisexuals people as mentally ill and in need of treatment due to their sexual orientation (All Answers Limited). Many people in society don't really understand why most people choose to go gay because a majority are Christians and with their belief being that some don't believe in this type of dating. Common effects of homosexuals are family member thoughts and
First of all, critical thinking is a way to analyze thinking. To analyze, we need to identify the intended and actual inferential relationships among statement, question, concepts, descriptions or other forms of representation intended to express idea, judgment, experiences, reasons, information, or opinions. Once we get an argument, then we need to analyze if that evidence is true and accurate that can prove the argument is correct. We need to examine ideas, identify arguments and identify reasons and claim. Also, we need to analyze if the premise is persuasiveness or not. When we analyzing an argument we should ask questions such as: What is the conclusion, what is it trying to claim, what is the basis for saying that, what are the value conflicts and assumptions and
As an American sometimes you have to ask yourself, why would the media in the past, or even now, try to dehumanize a group of people? It all depends on how you depict the situation. Nowadays, homosexuals are seen overall as almost a normal thing to be. We all are human, and we all bleed the same blood; However, things were not always how they are today. The Society of Human Rights was the first gay organization founded in 1924 by Henry Gerber. This organization immediately caused chaos and was disbanded almost instantly because of the political pressure. A majority of Americans saw gays as taboo and almost sickening. “1925 was the year police raids began to occur at gay and lesbian restaurants.”(United Church of Christ) One of the main reasons people looked down upon homosexuals was because of them being considered a threat. They were seen as sociopaths and psychos. Psychologists believed that homosexuals had sociopathic intentions and needed electric shock therapy. (PBS) During the Cold War in the 1950’s propaganda spread that stated that since homosexuality was a mental illness that “homosexuals were a security risk to the nation because those who engage in overt acts of perversion lack the emotional stability of normal persons.” (PBS) Following this statement, years later, President Eisenhower banned homosexuals from working in any part of the federal government due to the risk they brought. One psychologist,
Homosexuality is genetic! How can this statement be true? It is indeed true in the precise fact that Romans 3:23 points out, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” Humanity has been cursed with being genetically embedded with sin and a sinful nature. The current worldview is that homosexuality and multiple sexual orientations come from nature, and not nurture. This viewpoint is correct in that it is human nature to sin and seek out one’s own selfish desire. However, No one is prescribing a remedy for this sin. “Become sober-minded as you ought, and stop sinning; for some have no knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame.” (1 Corinthians 15:34) What the world has done is celebrated this sin and deceive youth through their much-wanted desire for acceptance and identity. There is a copious amount of research out there, along with world definitions of each orientation, and a call for acceptance of others’ orientations. There is also the other side of the argument and the fundamental truths that come from the word of God. Various resources are available to help youth leaders, teachers, parents and pastors to have a higher understanding of this cultural issue and the solutions and treatments available for youth struggling in this area. Spiritual leaders in the home, church, and schools ought to be prepared to teach on these topics readily, since this world, in which many youth are daily immersed, will readily present its own point of view with utter
