Homelessness in America has gone un-noticed for so long. For America to be the “land of opportunity” there is a large amount of people who have been deprived of what they were promised. There is so much this country offers, but at the same time there are so many qualifications. Not everyone can meet these standards that are sometimes required. This results in homelessness and poverty. Homelessness has become a hidden aspect in life. The government wants people to continue seeing America’s beauty. In order for that to be successful they would have to get rid of the flaws.

Homelessness has always been a controversial and complicated issue to understand; but, recent natural disasters, an economic recession, and conflicts among various nations have given homelessness a whole new dimension.

Homelessness is a national epidemic that affects much of our society. “In Texas, there were 29,615 persons homeless in 2013, meaning that approximately 12 out of every 10,000 persons in Texas are homeless” (Homelessness 101). Homelessness is a problem that is everywhere and unseen by many. There are not many sound solutions to homelessness unless the government wants to spend millions of taxpayer dollars. Some of the solutions to homelessness can be government housing for the homeless, increasing employment and Income, and creating a crisis response plan.

I must say I agree with you. Homelessness is an epidemic in our country; and with the United States being one of the most advance nation in the world, it is unacceptable. What is even worse is that it seems as if our government is not doing anything to end homelessness. As you stated that they create shelters, but these shelters aren’t enough. People need a place where they can feel safe and secure and call home, and these shelters cannot offer this.

Homelessness became a huge problem in everywhere especially in the USA. Most people heard homeless people, and they saw homeless people in the streets, markets, or bridges. Most people never try to understand why there is much homelessness. Homelessness is a serious societal problem affecting our communities. Katel of Housing the Homeless says “about 1.5 million Americans use a shelter in a given year- and advocates for the homeless say that figure badly understates the problem.” Yet, society looks down at these people, not doing anything to help them. They are judged, criticized, and bombarded by false assumptions everywhere they go. I have heard people say “they are like that because they chose to” or “they are lazy and don't want to work.” This is not true in most cases. The reality is life can go wrong at any moment for anyone. For some people there is no one there to help them and their only option is living on the streets or a shelter.

Walking down the streets of many urban areas, a person is often faced with a seemingly ignored problem: homelessness. As often as the phenomenon homelessness occurs, most people ignore it as if it is acceptable. Although there are some people who try to give donations and shelters, the government has not figured out anything that will bring a lasting solution to homelessness.

There are thousands of Americans that are living on the streets, under bridges, or sleeping on a cold park bench every night. There are several ways they can escape lining out on the streets; they could move in with a family member or friends. Some reasons why Americans have become homeless is because the monthly income they have coming in is not enough to cover the monthly bills they would have if they were renting a house or apartment. There are a lot of factors that construe the homeless epidemic. Factors the contribute to homelessness includes job loss, divorce, domestic abuse, foreclosure of home, serious illness, mental and physical illness, substance abuse and even natural disasters all help to contribute to homelessness. Which shows it can happen to anyone, regardless of gender, ethnicity, religion and even social class. Even with government regulations, there can occur a loss of financial sustainability by zoning regulations resulting in eminent domain over people’s properties when they have no place to go and with the high cost of housing either for purchase or to rent have skyrocketed. (Daily) A majority of the American people lives paycheck to paycheck, and according to statistics, we are only one or two paychecks away from becoming homeless.
