Initiative, adaptability, and communication, these traits empower my work, volunteering, and education. What I find one can draw from my experiences such as volunteering in Tanzania, interning with Global Routes, and studying Homeland Security, is my ability to adapt to distinctive environments, challenge myself to independent learning, and develop my networks through commitment and communication skills. This makes me an optimal candidate for the undergraduate student program with the directorate of operations. I first developed my interest in the Directorate of Operations as anyone might expect, through Hollywood, specifically the show Kim Possible. However, what solidified my commitment to this career path is my profound devotion to my countrymen …show more content…
In this class, I often find myself standing in a different position than my peers on many of our security simulation challenges. However, by the end I often find myself persuading the entire class to my side. For example, this week our challenge was to choose interrogation techniques to collect intelligence from a supposed terrorist. Our task was to choose an interrogation technique that was acceptable from a security and a civil liberties stand point. Many of my classmates began supporting physical torture in response to the atrocities the man had committed. I, on the other hand, developed my solution through research and convinced my classmates of more effective techniques that would not violate the Geneva convention or our bill of rights. By the end of the class, every team who initially supported “Any means necessary”, agreed to the effective techniques I proposed that would maintain the criminal’s rights. This speaks to my commitment to our constitution, international laws, as well as my ability to persuade people driven by emotions through research led discussions. I am one who always delivers my answers, thoughts, and actions backed by respectable research and I am not one to act brashly. I believe this portends to my abilities to operate for the CIA effectively and
I have been unable to deliberate on the appropriate alternative method for this particular dilemma. When it comes to the topic of torture, the popular attitude is that it is sometimes required. Where this agreement usually ends, however, is on the question of ethics and efficiency. Whereas some are convinced that it is an effective policy, others maintain that it is not successful practice. To further support the stance that the torture policy is not necessary effective, Army Col. Stuart Herrington inserted, in his experience, “nine out of ten people can be persuaded to talk with no 'stress methods' at all, let alone cruel and unusual ones.”
If you love stories that make you laugh but cry at the same time, The Glass Castle is the book for you. Jeannette Walls shows us, heartbreak and the overcoming obstacles that was her life. The film was released on August 11, 2017 and its not as great as the book, but it still fills your heart with sadness and joy. I had high expectations for the film, like every other book fanatic. I expected more of the heartbreaking scenes and the scenes where we got to see the family’s relationship.
What is democracy? According to the online version of the Miriam Webster dictionary, democracy is "government by the people" also "is a government in which supreme power is invested by the people and it is exercised by the people directly or indirectly through a representational system in which periodically held free elections." Venezuela as well as other countries in Latin America has undergone constant changes in their democracy, produced by their rulers. The primary function of the government is to ensure the safety of the state, its territory and its inhabitants. Also their objective is to strength the democratic institutions that ensure the democratic liberties and rights. Unfortunately, not all the leaders are capable of respecting

After the tragic event of 9/11, Bush wanted to make sure that another incident similar would not transpire, and he had a duty to keep America safe. To complete that assignment, Bush signed a law, known as the “Homeland Security Act”, to create the “Department of Homeland Security” (DHS) to combat the possible threat of terrorism. The strategic plan for the DHS is for an intergovernmental interaction; federal, state and local, to cooperate with one another and divulge any information that would be deemed a terroristic act. Any information that is shared will go to the office of State and Local Government Coordination and Preparedness (SLGCP), a single point department for the DHS, for the intention of exchanging information with personnel associated with all subnational governments. The ultimate goal of the DHS to have better communication with all intergovernmental entities to prevent another 9/11 attack from occurring.
When the terrorist attacks happened on September 11, 2001, in the United States. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was established it has a goal of mobilizing and organizing the nation to secure the homeland from terrorist attacks. Its mission is to lead a unified national effort to secure America, to prevent and deter terrorist attacks and protect against and respond to threats and hazards to the nation; and to ensure and secure borders, welcome lawful immigrants, and visitors, and promote the free flow of commerce. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) oversaw protecting the security of the transportation system.
" The founding fathers created the government to unite, and protect The United States. The government must also be able to protect citizens basic rights. These rights are written as amendments to our constitution. Our government has a duty to protect United States citizens, and with new technology this need for protection has extended to the internet. Federal, state, and local governments have a duty to protect their people, and to do this minimal forms of internet monitoring are needed.
One of the primary goals of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is to provide the highest level of security and customer service to all who pass through our screening checkpoints. Our current policies and procedures focus on ensuring that all passengers, regardless of their personal situations and needs, are treated equally and with the dignity, respect, and courtesy they deserve. Although every person and item must be screened before entering each sterile area, it is the manner in which the screening is conducted that is most important.
I was the top graduate in my Logistics Specialist “A” school and I didn’t look back since. I immediately established myself as a sought after technical expert and leader making me a vital part of my Command Material Control Department. I am a model and seasoned Petty Officer who typifies Honor, Courage and Commitment. I was hand selected to be the Air Wing expediter at Aviation Support Detachment Lemoore, where my professional knowledge and performance earned me a rare NAM ever given to a Temporary Assigned Duty personnel in the history of the Command Strike Fighter Wing Pacific. My contribution was pivotal to the Command earning a battle E award. Upon returning to the Golden Dragons, I earned both my EAWS and ESWS within six months and meticulously managed a $20 million budget for both the squadron and the Air Wing.
The United States government has issued a report detailing the use of “enhanced interrogation methods” that many have defined as torture. Imagine that, in response to this report, a bill has been introduced in Congress that would forbid the use of tactics that the bill’s sponsors have defined as torture, including waterboarding, excessive sleep deprivation, and solitary confinement, in American counter-terrorism efforts.
The Homeland Security Act of 2002 impacted the American people without many of them realizing it. The act called for increased monitoring of computer networks, phone lines, and online history inside the United States and allowed the government to deport suspects (ACLU). What was created by the act has snaked its way into all aspects of our lives, creating a sense of order and restricting some freedom. However, some say that this imposition into our daily lives limits our freedoms and actions allowed us by the Constitution. Many interest groups voice strong resentment for the act while others try to demonstrate the strengths and triumphs of the Homeland Security Act. This paper will show the differing viewpoints of those that feel that the
Before I joined the Air force, I dreamed of becoming a police office and owning a side business. However, I was a below average student with little chance of getting into a good college and the minimum age to become a Chicago police officer was 22. The most prevalent reason I joined the Air force is because I blamed myself for not working hard to get a college scholarship. I wanted to avoid using my parent’s money to attend a community college. Additionally, my grandfather was a civilian pilot and my uncle separated as a Senior Airman.
The National Security Agency/Central Security Service (NSA/CSS) was established in November 1952 to provide a cryptologic organization for the civilian and military leaders of the United States and to provide them with timely information. The National Security Agency (NSA) coordinates, directs, and performs highly specialized activities to produce foreign intelligence information and protect United States information systems through two main missions, Signals Intelligence (SIGINT) and Information Assurance (IA). The Signals Intelligence (SIGINT) mission uses cryptologic machines to break foreign codes to find out what they know and what they are doing. The biggest accomplishment publicly
The other strong argument which should be focused on is the effectiveness. The CIA claimed that this program was very effective in providing useful information, capturing the terrorist suspects, and predicting the terrorists’ plan for America. Notwithstanding concern of human right, more than half of America population believe that the use of torture was at least sometimes justified (Ronnie, 2007). Likewise, Rumney (2005) highlighted that torture is an excellent method to gather the information. In analysis of the benefit of torture, the evidence from the Vietnam wars showed that, the suspects were willing to confess if the tortured interrogation would stop (Anderson, 2004). Dershowitz (2002) shared the similar view that torture has produced
