For this discussion, I have chosen a company that’s a lunchtime favorite in my office—Panera Bread Company, a steadily-growing national restaurant chain headquartered in Sunset Hills, Missouri. Ron Shaich, the creator of Panera Bread, joined with partner Louis Kane, the founder of the bakery-café chain Au Bon Pain Co., Inc. (ABP). In addition to ABP, Mr. Shaich started a “fast casual” sandwich shop that he eventually named Panera Bread, and once ABP was sold in 1999, Mr. Shaich focused on growing the Panera Bread brand. Within the next 15 years, Panera Bread practiced a slow but steady growth pattern and there are now more in 2,300 Paneras in the United States (Panera Bread Company, 2017).
My first overall impression of the presentation given by Cookie Creations is that they did an adequate job. Their business plan started out by providing a sound, brief executive summary which gave me the attractive information needed to delve deeper into the business plan. In all but a page and a half, they pitched their idea, stated how the startup was to be funded, specified their target market, and explained how they would seize and maintain an advantage over other competitors. The business plan then expanded on the necessary subjects, aiming to gain the trust of potential investors. They elaborated on their history, market, product and services, strategies, operations, employees, financial plan and development. As I tried to objectively focus on the quality of their presentation rather than the quality of their product, I initially thought this was a great business plan. However, I am inexperienced, and I am an amateur. So after my first read through, I reviewed the Unit 8 PowerPoint on blackboard and paid more attention to detail during my following assessments. The business plan did do plenty of things well as I had imagined, but there were also flaws in the design. I will now be using the PowerPoint as a reference while critiquing this business plan.

This is evident in their mission statement which states: “We are committed to providing a nurturing and respectful environment at our workplace that fosters cooperation, communication and sense of accomplishment for all employees. We provide tools for growth through education, health benefits and access to alternative medical treatments. We
As mentioned in the case study, Panera Bread Company is known to be one of the leading bakery/café that offers freshly baked pastries and French inspired entrées across various states in the US. However in the recent years, Panera Bread faced a decrease in their usual high growth rate from 9.1% and 12.0% in the year 2000 to merely 0.2% and 0.5% of comparable sales and annualized unit volumes respectively.
The Pillsbury Cookie Challenge is a case study written by Natalie Mauro under the supervision of Professor Allison Johnson. The case study creates an open discussion about what the marketing manager of the refrigerated baked goods category for Canada General Mills should do to revive his products. Ivan Guillen, the marketing manager, was faced with tough challenges. He was initially “…faced with the challenge of developing a strategy that would lead to improved business performance on his category” (Johnson and Mauro, p.1, 2011). To clarify, Guillen’s category is refrigerated baked goods (RBG), which means, this category is his marketing responsibility. The issue here is that “RBG was GMCC’s fourth largest category, and its performance over the past two years had been less than stellar” (Johnson and Mauro, p.1, 2011). It is important to note that GMCC stands for General Mills Canada Corporation. Pillsbury has enjoyed majority market share in the RBG category in Canada, however, recently, the market was experiencing only moderate growth. Guillen was disappointed that their goal of 5%-7% market growth was not being achieved mainly in the refrigerated cookie dough segment. To be exact, their volume growth for two years was flat and they were having difficulty reaching new households. There was a shift among consumer’s purchases, which Guillen was challenged to figure out why.
A child came up to me today and ask me if he swallows a cookie what all happens to it. Once it enters the mouth, chemical and mechanical steps work to break the cookie into smaller pieces and remove its nutrients for use by the body. Tracing the digestion of a cookie involves a quick trip down your esophagus, a churn in the stomach and a slow, winding movement through the intestines.
There are exactly three branches of the government, each with separate parameters of function and degree of “power”. The three branches of the government are Legislative, Judicial, and Executive. These three branches of the movement serve as checks and balances for one another. They prevent each branch from becoming too powerful. Most of the powers of these branches aren’t directly affecting the daily lifestyle of citizens.
Chocolate chip cookies are a truly remarkable treat. In the cookie-baking process, little balls of wet dough are transformed into a crispy, brown and delicious treat. Baking the perfect batch of cookies is not easy. Morphing cookies from dough to deliciousness is a difficult process that takes a lot of time and preparation. Don’t be embarrassed if you have ever baked a terrible batch of cookies that wasn’t quite what you were expecting. Making a perfect batch is a task that takes some practice; your cookies could have turned out too flat, too burnt, or maybe too thick. It is hard to bake that perfect chocolate chip cookie that crunches vaguely here and there, oozing a chocolaty goodness, with a spot-on combination of salty, buttery and

In order to market a product, we must first understand customer needs and wants. Consumer insight is the information gathered about a target population in order to better align market strategies with consumer needs. The goal is to better understand the customer in the Pillsbury Cookie Case, Guillen focused on his cookie customers.
Kristen and her roommate are preparing to launch Kristen’s Cookie Company in their on-campus apartment. The company will provide fresh cookies to hungry students late at night. Evaluation of the preliminary design for the company’s production process will be required in order to make key policy decisions, including what prices to charge, what equipment to order and how many orders to accept, and to determine whether the business can be profitable.
