In Home Care and Cold Weather Preparation Many seniors live in areas where cold weather is a way of life, especially in winter. These are not the chilly breezes that come off the water in Florida, these are freezing temperatures that can cause severe hardships, loss of power and electricity, frozen pipes, and loss of services. In-home care personnel can help your senior loved ones prepare for the cold weather. Severe storms may knock out power in the house. The power may be out for moments or weeks. It is important to ensure a cell phone is charged and there is an extra power source that is also charged when severe weather is present. Home care aids can help make sure the home is safe by checking the space between the heaters and furniture and drapes (it is recommended that heaters not be placed within 3 feet).
