Holocaust Museum Experience

The Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles educates people about the Holocaust with exhibits like the Anne Frank. In the first place the Anne Frank exhibit taught us about Anne's family and also about her life in Amsterdam. In addition the Museum of tolerance show us what happened to all the innocent people back then and to never judged a person by their appearance. Also the Holocaust was part of Genocide because they treated all of the Jews, Gypsies, Jehovah Witness, Homosexuals like they were animals. The Holocaust exhibit helps people to understand about the the life of people who lived in the Holocaust , so that in the future it doesn't occur

Going to the Holocaust Memorial Museum in D.C. it really opened my eyes to how these group of people was treated so bad but they still kept to their faith and didn’t lose hope. Another thing I thought was interesting that the museum they did was give you an Identification Card of a person and it told their story and short background of their life and at the end it told you if they survived the Holocaust so it was sad at the end to find out the person I had didn’t survive. I think everyone who has the chance to visit the museum because you really see how the Jews were treated before the Holocaust and how they were even treated unfairly in other European countries, not just Germany. Being an African American and knowing what my ancestors had to go through during slavery it shows a lot of similarities like being the outside group amongst a race of people who think they are more powerful than you. However, from the Holocaust, I think the nation has really started to put forth laws that protect the minority racial group.

I feel extreme remorse for the Jews. I saw the concentration camp images , videos before hitler took over , and watched scenes of the people who survived the camps. I also took photos inside and outside the museum. For the most part what I got from this visit was that the Jews were killed in large numbers and treated poorly. After the visit I made a power point explaining what exactly we saw which were large mass killings aka (genocide). The stories I learned and images/videos I saw reminded me of the constant struggle we have in today's society. We as a nation need to stop injustice , unlawful , and prejudice hatred for one another. The one thing that I wish they would implement to their museum to make it more interesting is to add more Holocaustic casted models. I got this idea by visiting the African American museum. And what set them apart was that they had a whole set of statue models on display to place a person in that mindset of being there. If the Holocaust museum would issue more life-like cast, then I think people will feel more engaged in the tour. In the African American museum, I remember the faces on the life-like models. The faces with looks of confusions, fear, and sometimes happiness. I think by adding this would bring a whole new element to the Holocaust museum. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the opportunity. I do plan on returning in the near future. Maybe not to that museum in particular, but a more official museum like the ones in Germany. I have been to the Holocaust Museum a number of times for various different events and occasions. I know many people who work there and I even know some survivors. I disagree with Kluger who said, “The various Shoah museums and reconstituted concentration camp sites do the exact opposite. That’s why I find them so hard to take; they don’t take you in, they spit you out. Moreover, they tell you what you ought to think, as no art or science museum ever does. They impede the critical faculty” (198). While I was given a great deal of information about Mauthausen in all forms; from our tour guide, to videos, to pictures, and informational plaques; I still was not told what to think. I was given a brief history and idea based on individual and collective memories. I was then able to make my own conclusions.

I considered myself lucky that I was born in 21st century. Everyone today has a voice and stand up for what they think is right or wrong. The visit to the Museum of Tolerance was an eye-opening experience for me. I had heard about Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party before but I did not have any idea of all the sufferings they had brought to the Jewish people in Germany. The Holocaust is one of the most significant event that has happened in the world’s history. The visit to the museum showed me the horrifying facet of discrimination and inhumanity from the past. Jews were being blamed for Germany’s loss during World War I and economic hardships in the country. During the Holocaust, Jewish were discriminated, persecuted and murdered. If you love history and are interested in our country’s past then the holocaust museum is a good place to start. Not only does it help us understand that awful past time, it also helps us to make better decisions for the future. It helps us realize the suffering and pain the Jewish people went through and shows us that we can not let it happen again. This museum was one of the most informing and interesting museums i went to on my trip to Washington D.C.

The Holocaust museum and study center, located Downtown of El Paso, Texas was constructed as a memorial to recognize those who were brutally murdered in the concentration camps by Adolf Hitler in 1933 to 1945. This building serves as a place where people can visit and study the history behind the Holocaust. The city of EL Paso built this museum to educate the community and prevent the Holocaust from reoccurring in history. Jewish families who have lost loved ones or are survivors come here and recognize the millions of Jews who were killed in the tragic event. The Holocaust remains one the most tragic events in history.

My experience in Washington, D.C. was tremendous, memorable, and exhausting. Over the three days we were visiting D.C. I made quick friendships, visited several monuments, and walked eight miles in one day! One of my favorite locations to visit every time I am in D.C. is the Holocaust Museum. I have always enjoyed learning about World War II. The Holocaust Museum is a quiet place where you usually explore the exhibit by yourself and reflect on this historical event. When I entered one of the rooms it was two walls on each side, that went from the ceiling to the floor, that included pictures of Jewish children, husband and wife, and families. I could stay in this room all day and look at each individual picture and wonder if they survived the holocaust, or if they weren’t so lucky. This room makes me reflect my life and question how I was blessed with this one life, and others must suffer. Another room that makes me upset is the room filled with all the Jewish people shoes. To imagine that a person, in such pain, wore those shoes in hopes of one day being free makes your heart sink. I believe this museum makes me reflect deeply on my life choices and value the life I was given; I am thankful for this museum to keep educating me and others.
