I will have to agree with Hochswender, SUV’s aren’t working with terrorists. The essay was very persuasive, even though I already agreed with his ideas. One of his major arguments about the gas millage of an SUV is now becoming a lesser thought because of how science is increasing the miles per gallon on the giant metal vehicles. Another argument is that if you were in a car accident with a drunk driver you would rather be in a big SUV than a small sedan. Without the need for resources it’s easy to think about, a bigger vehicle can protect more than a small car. Hochswender had a convincing argument towards keeping his big SUV even if a director hates you for it.
The essay has many good points about gas millage and safety that help to convince
In Kyle Wein’s article, he explains why he doesn’t believe people with poor grammar shouldn’t be hired. I agree with Wein’s statement because everyone was taught basic grammar, it represents you when text is the only form of communication, and it also gives a first impression when handing in the resume. Firstly, everyone was taught basic grammar in school. To say that a certain applicant wasn’t able to learn the difference between its and it’s and another was, shows that the other applicant will be able to do much better remembering and performing tasks in the job correctly.
The idea of sovereignty has been very popular in Quebec that it was distributed within two
Mark Zepezauer’s article, “MK-Ultra from the Book the CIAs Greatest Hits” discusses the psychology experiment conducted by the CIA, MK-Ultra. The MK-ultra conducted a study that used mind control on their participants. Zepezauer recounts the events of the CIA tries to defend their stance by claiming they used the method in response to the brainwashing from the Chinese that was happening in the fifties. He says that mind control practices took place prior to 1953, but became popular after the experiment. He continues to explain how the CIA would use drugs, including LSD, and test them on their patients that were unaware of what tests were upon them. Zepezauer reveals that multiple suicides also took place in response to the given substances. He deliberated how the CIA rented out apartments and used prostitutes in their study. They used them to slip the drugs into their client’s pockets and the CIA would look through one-way mirrors to see the client’s response. Once the auditors discovered this, the MK-Ultra shut down and renamed the MKSEARCH. Mark Zepezauer
Later, White explains how challenging it is to convert from gas engines to electric due to the expenses involved. The author claims that gasoline is cheaper than “many brands of bottled water” (333); however, he does not give proper ethos for his poorly stated logos. Not supporting his logic takes away from the strength of his article as a whole, making his assumptions unconvincing. The author says that our advances in technology allow one to use hydrogen as a fuel. White then follows up with how there are only 1,000 natural-gas fueling stations in the country without supporting ethos (333).
The Old Woman advices Cunegonde, to marry the self-important governor. The man whom stole the jewelry, has been caught and turned them in. With marrying the governor, the Old Woman knows will provide them with protection from prosecution. However with this, you also see the Old Woman, allowing Candide to take all of the blame for the crime. This decision is another example that contradicts Panglos philosophy of the perfect world. With this you see the Old Women suggest Cunegonde make a decision using logic and not emotions feelings. You see everyone is essential for him or herself.
I concur with your thoughtful analysis and conclusion that Hochswender’s argument lacked the substance necessary to effectively persuade the reader. Initially, I too felt a sense of arrogance in his tone and rhetoric until I came across documentation explaining the event that provoked his contemptuous response for the “virtuous ones”. “The Detroit Project”, spearheaded by Arianna Huffington and “Pulp Fiction” producer Lawrence Bender, collaborated with the Natural Resources Defense Council in their efforts to force auto makers to make more fuel efficient cars. The purpose of their campaign was demonize auto industry companies, such as Toyota and GM, for manufacturing SUV’s, and label those who purchased them as supporters of terrorism. Hochswender’s
Omari Akil provide an argument that Pokémon Go is an endangerment to black men because of the “statistically disproportionate chance” that someone could call the police to investigate the on the suspicious looking black men walking around in circles could lead to fatal shooting of another black male. Akil’s argument is important because he is discussing a social problem that most people will not realize until someone is laying in a pool of blood. Due to the severe social injustices and prejudices that African Americans are facing it is not safe playing Pokémon Go, with the war going on about police brutally between blacks and policemen, and the way the game is worked it is a target for black males.
Morals are values acquired through socialization and development they are your guide in deciphering right from wrong. Moral responsibility is the individuals guide to right and wrong. We can witness a lack of moral regard in patient who exhibits specific types of cluster b personality disorders. Especially within the antisocial personality disorder. More commonly known as the psychopath or sociopath.
Throughout our lives, we will come across other individuals whose opinions differ from ours. Whether we decide to shadow their beliefs or stay strong to our own, it is how we handle the situation, as well as what we take from it, that shapes our character. I am now aware that, for the most part, it is best to have your own voice and remain firm to what you believe in instead of changing your views in order to please others just to fit in.
Volokn's argument was very similar to Obama's commencement speech at Howard. Volokn argues that the protection for thoughts we "hate" are actually necessary. Volokn develops an argument by prediction when he assumes that "ideas we hate or sooner or later they will be denied to the ideas we cherish." He also predicts Envy from one group to another will develop when it comes to offenses and discussion.

The focus of my disagreement with Ginzburg’s argument is that it begs the question; was it inquisition affecting culture, culture affecting inquisition, or another force that led to a change in views? Ginzburg disregards the second with his summary concerning the records with Gasparutto and Moduco, which make it clear that it was only when the inquisitor heard Gasparutto mention an angel he started trying to make night battles fill the sabbat format.3 Thus, culture did not change the inquisitors. So was it inquisition influencing beliefs or something else? Considering how many times the book mentions individuals coming forward without inducement (that we know of) it could also have been something else entirely. There also seems to have been
After reading the article, I found it very valid and legitimate. Shafer discusses how over the past few years our perception of the seriousness of global warming has decreased, and that this decline is due to the lesser volume of media coverage. The statistic that, "2,286 pieces mentioned global warming in 2006, compared to 1,353 in 2013", was very eye-opening. Over the past few years more immediate national problems have taken place, and have taken the media's and the nation's attention away from global warming. Shafer also goes on to say that because global warming is a more long term problem, we tend to loose interest. I agree with Shafer's argument that the media's decline has led to a less severe perception of global warming. I feel that
Anaximander was a student of Thales, and Thales believed the primary substance of which all material objects where made off was water, but Anaximander had a different thought. At a time when the Pre-Socratic philosophers were focused on Monism and each pursing the element they believed to comprise all material objects, Anaximander took a different approach. Anaximander argued that none of the elements that the other Pre-Socratic philosophers thought to be the primary substance of all material objects could embrace all of the opposites that were found in nature. With this argument he believed that there was no primary substance for which all things were made of. In order to explain all of the opposites in nature he saw that contradicted the
Modernity was a religious period in history where there was a shift in how people thought about faith and religion. It was no longer about the religion, instead it became about studying the believer and questioning the faith. During Modernity there were two main ways of thinking of religion, either you thought religion was rational or irrational. Ludwig Feuerbach was one of the key thinkers during this period who thought religion was irrational. In God as a Projection, Feuerbach argues as a thesis that God does not really exist and that God is just a human projection. Feuerbach makes several presuppositions while making his argument. Although, Feuerbach is very straightforward with his argument, there are several gaps in it from which the reader
