What are some strategies you would use to increase referrals to your ASC while maintaining high patient satisfaction scores?
• Another challenge facing ambulatory surgery centers is the recruitment of new physicians. Following a national trend, many local hospitals and health systems are purchasing physician practices, which could eventually lead to doctors referring surgical cases to a hospital’s same day surgery department. Assuming there is ample opportunity to increase surgical volume, how do you intend to recruit physicians to practice via your ASC? What are some strategies/offerings you could employ?
• The ASC you are currently managing is experiencing out of network challenges. Additionally, the proposed reimbursement rates from payers do not match Medicare rates for your market. Most of your ASC contracts are based on the Medicare fee schedule and because many of your surgeries are not on that schedule, you have to negotiate a fee schedule on a case-by-case basis. What strategies could you employ as you work with payors to contract for reasonable rates that could save you both money in the short term?
• In this changing environment, you are required to do more with less. Reimbursement rates are declining; supply and implant costs, taxes, utilities, rent, salaries and benefits and other operating costs are increasing and there are more regulatory requirements i.e.,
Ambulatory Surgical Center provides same-day surgical care that includes diagnostic and preventive procedures. Ambulatory Surgical Center treats only patients who have already seen a health care provider and selected surgery as the appropriate treatment for their condition. Ambulatory Surgical Center must be certified and approved to enter into a written agreement with CMS. Ambulatory Surgical Center has a unique set of regulation and standards under the Medicare and Medicaid program or other third party payers. The outpatient payment provides a set payment for each surgical procedure. They must be licensed and inspected by the State and Federal government to see if they meet standards Certified facility standers.
The ASC (Ambulatory Surgical Center) provides a variety of career opportunities. Basically, a ASC is a health care facility where surgical procedures not requiring an overnight hospital stay are performed. I have been able to shadow several jobs within the ASC. Out of all the careers, a PACU nurse sparked an interest. PACU Nurses are specialized to work in the post anesthesia care unit. They provide intensive care and treatment for patients who have gone under anesthesia. PACU RNs can also be referred to as a recovery room nurse.
Because the case is nondirected, there is ample opportunity for students to be creative in their solution approaches. Thus, it is impossible to provide a single solution here that is applicable to every student's work. As a starting point in evaluating students' solutions, we provide a solution that is based on the questions contained in online Case Questions section. It is important, however, to recognize that this solution is merely a starting point, and student work should be graded at least as much on the
The passage of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in 2010, created a paradigm shift in the way health care is delivered to its patients creating a greater emphasis on lowering costs while improving outcomes (Cascardo, 2014). One strategy to contain costs while improving the quality of patient care, thus outcomes, is transitioning outpatient surgeries from acute care hospitals to ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs). ASCs provide same day surgical care, as well as diagnostic and preventive procedures (ASCA, n.d.).
Directions: Read the case study below and complete the questions at the end. You will form small groups in class to collaborate and produce your final answer.

Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASC) was the vision of two physicians in Phoenix Arizona in 1970 who wanted to provide the same high quality surgical services as acute care hospitals while achieving greater accessibility to the patient as well as more control to the physicians. Dr. Reed and Dr. Ford saw the potential for many surgical procedures that did not require an overnight stay that would achieve higher productivity and cost savings to the patient.
Since the Community South Medical Center enjoys a great reputation among the patients as well as the general population, it would be common to find many individuals who would like to become part of such a reputed organization. This reputation of the center should make the job of the management a bit easy as it would just need to advertise its requirements to the public and then choose the best from the applicants who apply for the job. The center can even negotiate on its terms with the applicants since there would be much competition for the posts of clinical staff and hence introduce many conditions such as a good experienced background, good educational background and so on.
Payment for services will determine the advancement of technology. Research for cures, disease prevention, and new medications are examples that humans value. The involvement of the CMS affects many health care organizations. Even with the new health care reform, costs continue to rise and there remains a lack of access to many.
This case can be used in several ways. In the introductory course, the case can be used as the basic structure for a lecture or as a written assignment in conjunction with lecture and text material. In our more advanced courses, which usually have smaller enrollments,
The health care industry is one of the most dynamic and delicate industries in the U.S. having experienced healthy and substantial changes for the last thirty years most of which have aimed to improve health care management and services delivery to the patients. The changes have enabled the integration of technology into the industry such as in the area of informatics, science and research and payment services and clinical treatments. The health care sector has introduced various changes to address disease and health care management such as the Modernization Act of 2003, the Patient Protection Act and Affordable Act, which aim at improving health provision and most

Many people who need services today begin their search online, often using social media. Since social media is a popular way referrals are made, keeping your message consistent is important. That means you should have someone dedicated to the task of taking care of your social media pages so there is consistency across all platforms. Being able to post information and answer questions will go a long way toward getting your name out there. For example, if someone posts a question on your Facebook wall asking about a procedure, you should be ready to respond with carefully-selected, accurate information. Also, if one of your current patients posts providing good feedback, you should thank them and post a link in case
Ambulatory surgery centres (ASCs) are health care facilities that offer short-stay surgical and emergency procedures to patients, who do not require an overnight stay in a hospital. ASCs came into existence around four decades ago in Arizona (USA) by two physicians as an alternate to overcrowded and costly HOPDs (Hospital Outpatient Departments) care at hospitals marred by slow operation room turnover time, schedule delays, and budgetary constraints limiting the ability to purchase new medical equipment. From the time of their inception, ASCs have demonstrated a high-quality patient care at a low cost.
