History and Background
In 1981, the Marciano brothers arrived in Los Angeles and opened a clothing store. The brothers who were originally from South France had previously owned a twelve chain retail store in France. Jeans were among some of the merchandise in the brother’s store. The jeans were designed by Georges Marciano, they called named the jeans GUESS because it was easy for the brothers to pronounce. These jeans were intended to have a tight fit and feature zippers near the ankles. The stone-wash gave them a soft feel and lighter colors than the rest of the jeans of its time. It was at this time that they featured the ever famous GUESS triangle on the back of the jean pockets. Today the company’s products are marketed under Maricano, GUESS Factory, Guess, G by Guess, and Guess Kids.

There is a major shift in today’s retail industry, the boom of internet shopping. The 2015 holiday season is what made us notice this huge shift. It was in 1981 that Georges and Maurice opened the clothing store in Beverly Hills, California. Paul Marciano began to direct the revolutionary advertising campaign in 1982. It was in 1983 with help of the Naskash brothers of Jordache
The claim presented in the article is how ads often set unrealistic beauty standards, and how the author encourages them to “break free” from these standards by giving two examples on how ads should be compelled.
In the past, buying a simple white tee or a luxurious plaid skirt was a mindless purchase. However, as the reality of how these items are made comes to light, it raises the question: what are the true human costs of the fashion industry? Well, the fashion industry comes with a serious price: the workers producing these fast fashion items work long hours in horrific conditions, are treated unfairly and inhumanely, and are left behind economically and educationally. The first human cost that comes with the fashion industry is the dangerous conditions they work in.

Marginalization of companies is the coming together of two or more companies that offer similar goods and services to form one legal entity. Several companies merge for the maximization of profits from their products, and reduce competition from other companies that perform similar duties. Over the years, several fashion companies have merged in the fashion industry. However, government involvement in the market economy aids in controlling and protecting both the consumer's and the fashion industry itself.
In the early 1900s, many immigrants had left their home country and came to America in hopes of starting a new life. In order to do so, they had to get a job and start supporting the new life in which they hoped for. During this time, the industrial field seemed to be the most common occupation of any immigrants, especially in New York City. There were hardly any working requirements and basically anyone could be hired in these sweatshops or factories. The garment industry in particular, hired immigrant women and children with a very low wage, strenuous labor hours, and awful working conditions. Without any regulations or codes, the working environment could’ve been considered a death trap and was not being appreciated when it came to pay day.

Fashion is important because it captures your personality. Sometimes the clothes you are wearing can say more about you than any words can. Advertising fashion has been part of the lives of people from the 1950's to 2016. “Advertising industry plays an important purpose in our society by being the main source of information for consumers and products”(O'Neil). The assorted trends from the decades create a personality for the people at the time. Societal views on people and clothes tend to affect the next in-style clothing item.

Cars and simple things like vacuums, toasters and washing machines were invented to help people do things easier. J.Crew as an iconic brand targeting young working professional by focusing on preppy and classy look failed in identifying brand focus. Also, their business model is performing poorly in the fast-fashion industry compare to traditional competitors, with its high prices, diverging quality, and undesirable brand image. Hence, the brand perception by customers has changed and many of them prefer to purchase the discounted products rather than full-priced items.
Rivalry among existing competitors: The apparel industry is highly competitive with a great number of both local and global competitors. As the market is mature, its growth is small. Accelerated growth and expansion to new markets are not easy goals to achieve. The barrier to get out of the industry is quite low for distributors, but high for producers. Most fashion manufacturers moved their production base to low-cost countries like China as wage and raw materials in developed markets like Western Europe are high. Besides, there is no great discrepancy in terms of quality of products, so customers make their purchase choices based on price and brand recognition.
