Father Wilhelm Kleinsorge’s journey in the book Hiroshima was extremely exciting and touched me personally. Hiroshima by John Hersey was written to give insight into the lives of survivors on that horrific day during August in 1945. Hersey informed me of the happenings surrounding the dropping of the atomic bomb. The book both shocked and informed me with its vivid details and accuracy.
The stories and events that unfold in John Hersey’s, Hiroshima, have certainly been eye-openers for me. As a child in middle school and high school I, we have all heard of the atomic bomb and of course of Hiroshima, but never in as much detail or on such a personal level as these stories. Not even in chemistry or physics class, where I learned some of the specifics as to how the bomb works, had I known of the destructive force of the bomb or it’s gruesome effects on human beings. As I mentioned before, this book was quite an eye-opener for me because it has taught me just how deadly nuclear weapons can be not only on material properties, but on human beings, and why nuclear weapons must never again be used is such a way.

This was the account of a little boy in fifth grade who had survived the tragedy of Hiroshima in 1945. Both Hiroshima and Nagasaki were bombings of Japanese cities by the United States during World War II. Of the thousands of people who died, the horrific tellings of what they saw and what happened to them is a blemish on history. Without a doubt, these actions changed the perspective on war, as this was the only time atomic weapons have ever been used. The events of Hiroshima and Nagasaki not only altered history, but had a devastating and influential
A lot of the people of Hiroshima were unable to survive the bomb. Many died on impact but some burned in the fire or they were suffocated by the falling buildings and debris. The ones who survived were left with not only physical damage, but also mental and emotional damage because of the tragic event that they went through and because they also had to watch many of their families and friends die and they were unable to save them.
