In the first presidential debate Donald trump and Hillary Clinton made good points on what would happen if either one of them were president. In one of the arguments they were having hillary claims that she knows “how to really work to get new jobs and create new jobs”. Trump replies “But you haven’t done it in 30 years”. Making a point that if she gets into office she is not going to do anything with her presidential. They were many arguments about different topics but the increasing tension of racism on this country captured me into it. Donald Trump addresses that “African Americans, Hispanics, are living in hell”, and hillary clinton shoots back at trump saying that “It’s unfortunate that he paints such a dire picture of black communities”.
“The plague of racism is insidious, entering into our minds as smoothly and quietly and invisibly as floating airborne microbes enter into our bodies to find lifelong purchase in our bloodstreams.”(Maya Angelo 2005) Racism is a global issue that’s occurring all around the world however, almost half of Americans feel racism is a major problem. According Catherine E. Shoicet (2015), CNN journalist,’’ In a new nationwide poll conducted by CNN and the Kaiser Family Foundation, roughly half of Americans -- 49% -- say racism is "a big problem" in society today.’’ (p. 1). Slavery in America plays a big part in the reason racism still exists today. Any act of Racism should be against the law. Racisms leads to hate, violence, and physiological
I was so surprised how Donna Brazile tried to defend herself when there is proof that she was the one who shared a town hall question with the Clinton campaign. I think that it was a waste of time for herself and others trying to prove that she did nothing. Also, when she said, “You're like a thief that wants to bring into the night the things that you found that was in the gutter”, I felt really bad for Kelly. I get that people doesn’t want to admit that they did a bad thing, but I think that it was a mistake to say that Kelly is a thief in front of the audience. Also, I think that she should not control audience’s mind to make them think that she is not the one who did a illegal things but Kelly who stole her private. Which is related to
Clinton espoused consistent optimism, contending that “our country is great because it is good.” She emphasizes inclusivity when she says “I want to be the president for all Americans.” Clinton is composed and solemn; she reiterates frequently that Trump is “unfit.” Citing multiple negative interactions with minority groups, Clinton asserts that the recent media release
Author of The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness and an associate professor here at Ohio State, wrote an article “Why Hilary Clinton Doesn’t Deserve the Black Vote.” This article not only touches on how Hilary Clinton is only using black people as her “winning card (Alexander, 2)” in the 2016 Election, but also her past decisions she made as the wife of the 42nd President of the United States that should be taken into consideration by black voters. Mrs. Clinton and Bernie Sanders are the two Democratic Party presidential candidates. Although Bernie Sanders promises “a political revolution that will bring universal healthcare, a living wage, an end to rampant Wall Street greed, and the dismantling of the vast prison state...(Alexander, 5),” Hilary Clinton seems to be receiving all of the black votes, according to recent polls. Alexander explains that because many African Americans believed (and still believe) that Bill Clinton was the first “black president,” Ms. Clinton will receive several black votes.
Instead of Clinton only appealing her politics for the race to the Black-Americans, she has begun to use her second strategy. Clinton’s second tactic allows her to attract the votes of conservative and moderate White-Americans. Additionally, since a large amount of support for Hillary Clinton’s campaign is solidified by Black-Americans, Hillary will continue to increases her winning percentage for presidency by obtaining White votes. In another excerpt from the column, Key Bloc of Black Mayors to Back Hillary Clinton, Perry Bacon Jr. illustrates the overwhelming Black support of Hillary Clinton. He states: “Clinton's strong support among African-Americans, favor the former secretary of state over Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders by over 50 points in many polls” (NBC News). As a result of this, Clinton has realized that she earned the admiration, support, and trust of Blacks-Americans to an extent of not being fearful of losing their votes. Although her racial moderate remarks will naturally cause her to lose a small fraction of Black voters, it is crucial to understand that many other Blacks will remain loyal and continue to support her. Additionally, this is because the Clinton campaign has done an excellent job in appealing to the socioeconomic empathy of African-Americans. Evidence of the Clinton campaign becoming more
Throughout American history, one thing remains constant: United States citizens discriminating against each other. In the 1930s, the rich California landowners acted as though they were racially superior to the incoming migrant workers, or as they were called, “Okies”. Today, we see the same type of behavior coming from our police officers. Shootings of black citizens by white police officers has become a major issue in our nation, and it has gone so far that NFL players kneel for the national anthem before games to draw attention to the issue and that violence has broken out in cities like Charlottesville, Virginia. President Trump has been forced to comment on the issue, which has only lead to more controversy, as he stated that he believes
Jacoba, J. (2016). Presidential Debate "How Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton Plan to Deal with Race". ABC News .
During Barack Obama's presidency, some American's thought that the country had entered a post-racial era in which, racial prejudice and discrimination had ended in the United States. This idea now is destroyed in Trumps presidency by Trump showing his true whiteness in discrimination and through racism. In "The First White President: The foundation of Donald Trump's presidency is the negative of Barack Obama's Legacy," Ta-Nehisi Coates, an American author, journalist, comic book writer, and educator, writes how discrimination and racism still stand through politics. Coates presents a convincing argument that Donald Trump's presidency is a reflection of racism in the United States through birtherism, bondage, and the voting rates.
I really did not feel compelled to write this piece, but as days passed after the election I felt like Americans needed little light shed on the situation. Tuesday night was a very nail bitter situation as millions of Americans were anxiously waiting for results, but in the wee hours of the mornings as you already know Donald Trump was declared our President. Whether you support him or not, it happened and all we can do is move forward. It is understandable to be a little frustrated at first if your candidate lost, but what I saw on social media was complete HATRED from both parties. My heart began to ache after just a few seconds of reading several posts that were filled with the same wretched lies. Hillary supporters calling every republican racist and sexist, but then republicans calling democrats upset because we can't be baby killers anymore and getting our food stamps taken away.
CNN did a study which showed that “white Americans are far less likely than persons of color to believe that racism remains a serious problem in the U.S. While roughly two-thirds of blacks and Latinos believe racism is a big problem in America today, only about four in ten whites agree” (Tim Wise). This shows that many people do not believe that there is any racial inequality in society. In a particular interview from the recent election a Trump supporter, Kathy Miller, claimed that "If you’re black and you haven’t been successful in the last 50 years, it’s your own fault. You’ve had every opportunity; it was given to you" (the
Please do not blame the media for how people perceive Donald J.Trump. He has done a fantastic job letting the world know what type of man he is. I'm sure there are some (but far and few in between) rational Trump supporters, but if you watch any Trump rally you will see what horrendous shit they are capable of. It's disgusting. Trump had not told his supporters that this behavior is unacceptable. If his not condemned it, then he is indirectly condoning it.
Although his victory was considered unlikely by pre-election forecasts, by early morning November 9, 2016, Donald J Trump was projected to obtain over 270 electoral votes, making him the new president elect of the United States. The election was described by news organizations as a complete “shock”, with the New York Times calling it a “once-unimaginable scenario.” Donald Trump will be the first president in history to have been elected without any prior experience in public service. There are many that are genuinely afraid of Trump – in fact, according to exit polls, 92% of Hillary Clinton voters and more than a third of Americans claimed they would be “frightened” of a Trump presidency; this is partly due to the controversial, harsh, and racially charged language Trump consistently used during his campaign that upset much of mainstream politics. Donald Trump is expected to take office on January 20th, 2017, becoming the president of the United States and arguably the most powerful man in the world. Now, not only are the people of the United States can only wait and anticipate what will happen under the Trump presidency. But unknown to many, Trump being elected as the 45th president of the United States will have great consequences on racial tensions and discrimination in society and politics, even Trump were to not pass any laws. This is because, according to
Imagine that a person had a life threatening illness and they needed to seek professional medical treatment. Would they want a doctor who passed their board certification, or a doctor who did not? I think it would be safe to say that a majority of people would pick the board certified doctor as a result of their understanding and expertise in their respected areas of practice. Just as you expect your doctor to be fit to treat your ailments, you expect your government officials to be fit to run our nation. The cabinet appointments of Jeff Sessions, Betsy Devos, and Andy Puzder prove the assertion that Donald Trump has appointed cabinet members that lack understanding and empathy for the people they aim to serve
Also, the President is stimulating racism between people, one part of society is protesting against racism while the other part is saying that is not racism present on society today.
Donald Trump, a washed up reality TV show host and somewhat successful businessman best known for the quote, ‘You’re Fired!’ has somehow managed to become the Republican candidate for the presidency of the United States. Surely this is a joke. Best known as a walking bigot with a laughably bad toupee, Trump is not exactly what I envision when I picture the President of the United States. Well, he is a white male with a superiority complex so maybe he’s exactly what I picture when I think about people in positions of great power. After all the lack of diversity in important positions in politics is in itself a major issue, Barak Obama was the exception to this. He was after all a highly educated black man who wanted to make changes for the better of the majority of America’s population not just the 1%. Where Obama was a step forward for America, Donald Trump will be a major leap back; not only for America but also for the entire world.
