One of the hardships I have endured in the fall of 2015 was balancing between school work and be involved on campus. I joined the Association of Latino Professionals for America (ALPFA) at the beginning of the semester and was chosen to be a treasurer chair. As a chair, I have to meet up with the officers regularly to talk about meetings and responsibilities for certain events. Sometimes, I had to go pick up food for the meetings and stayed after every meetings to help the officers clean up. I contributed to ALPFA around three to four hours per week. At the same time, I took my first Intro to Accounting class last semester; it was not easy. Before selected this class, I already know it will be hard and required a lot of time for practice. I went to tutors twice a week, visited my professor after every exam to talk about the questions I missed, and spent around 10 hours each week working practice …show more content…
My parents finally able to buy a house after 8 years we came to the United States; it was a good news but after that, my parents were short on money. When I came home one weekend, I heard my parents arguing about not having enough money to pay for the bills. Therefore, I decided to find a job to work during the winter break and help my parents pay the bills. It was a week before final exams when I was really stressed out about finding a job for the winter break and have to study for finals at the same. I applied to more than ten jobs did not get a call from any of them. That was the most memorable mental breakdown moment that I can recall since I started college. After waited for two days and did not get a call from any of the places that I applied, I went back to old employer where I worked during the summer and asked for a job. Luckily, he was hiring at time and was willing to hire me back. After all, I was able to work for 4 weeks during the winter break and helped my parents paid the
I graduated high school back in 1994. I was engaged to be married in just two years, and even though I joined the Pennsylvania Air National Guard right after graduation it was only one weekend a month and two weeks out of the year. So I needed a full-time job. A friend of the family knew a guy who was opening a second store, and was going to need a store manager. I took the job and got started. What I didn’t know was the guy I was just hired to work for was a little confused as to what he wanted. I hung onto the job for a little over a year hoping it would turn around but, no dice.
I’m always busy setting up for club events, attending chapter meetings, or finalizing class assignment what can I say—I am very involved. My clubs and honors societies help me stay grounded and remind me that not only can I get my school work done, but also help others along the way. Most recently I’ve been working with a club to do a DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) panel of success stories as motivation for others. I’ve been working closely with the club presidents of the, Contigo Club, to plan out the execution of this event.
Started off with me having to move back to Indiana. First, my mom was nowhere to be found, so I wasn’t able to say good bye and that I loved her. I really wanted to be able to hug her one last time. She did the same thing when I was a kid. It made me feel unwanted all over again, so I got on the bus with nothing but 3 bags and no money.
That was the beginning of the most riskful, yet most rewarding year of my high school career; a few precedents I made during the 2015-2016 year included getting a job, joining FFA, FCCLA, and the Academic Super Bowl teams, plus church work, simultaneously. I was fully aware that tackling this new schedule while having a heavy academic load would be challenging, because I was in all honors and Advanced Placement courses that left me with close to two hours of homework to complete each
Students spend four years of their lives attending high school. Going through high school is mandatory as it prepares them for college and strength to face “the real world.” Having part-time jobs has become the phenomenon among high school students and many students follow this trend as well. Moreover, there are some pros and cons attached with it. Though it may seem like working throughout high school is a bad idea, it could better prepare students for “the real world.” Although some people believe that the primary duty of a student is studying, I am of the opposite position. I strongly support the idea that high school students should work throughout high school. This is because they can earn money, become responsible and get
Besides work, I have also been involved in my school’s marching band and the girl’s ice hockey team all throughout high school. These are both very time-consuming, but I appreciate every minute I have put in because I have gained much more out of my participation in these groups. Music is something I’m very dedicated to and my time in marching band has greatly attributed to my proficiency on the saxophone as well as my leadership experience because I served as the section leader this last year. My time in both of these activities has also enhanced my teamwork skills and I have made many new friends in my four years. UWL can benefit from these commitments because I plan to continue playing music at the university with participation in the marching band and even if I do not continue in hockey, I will still carry with me the characteristics I have developed. Along with these, I have also put in a lot of time as a student leader at my youth group which has helped me to establish my leadership ability as well. With these commitments as well as various clubs and volunteering, i am pretty busy, but this has greatly improved my time management skills. Especially with AP classes, it can be difficult to participate in extracurricular activities and still make time for schoolwork, but I learned to use every part of my day efficiently and keep up with everything I have going on. This will be very important as I progress in college and I have harder classes and other things to keep track of. Overall, the different activities I participate in have been preparing me for my future and UWL can benefit from everything I have gained throughout my various
In the Spring 2017 semester, I really buckled down, got every homework assignment and event down on the planner so I knew what each week looked like. The first couple months to about spring break I was going to class and only missed due to some extreme circumstances. But I got over whelmed during the semester, being President of Children of The American Revolution, and active in my sorority, these things took away from my academic
Hi! Im Shelby from MMS.I am super eager to be a freshman at highschool next year but i'm also nervous. With being eager and nervous I am also really adventurous, creative, curious about how things work, and kind. I wouldnt say im the best student because I am still working on managing my time wisely. I can work well under pressure but I don't want to have to in the future.I also have to work on turning things in on time.I have to be a good example because I am the oldest of two half brothers. One goes to Kindergarten academy right now his name is Elijah. And my other half brother goes to West shore academy the private school, his name is Jackson. They are both in kindergarten.
Looking at school, I had an okay first semester. I started the morning with Algebra II and photography, which was a class I really enjoyed. Then my advisory is with the ASB officers and we either do homework or we talk about events we are planning for our school in the future. From lunch, I had AP U.S. History and then I'm a TA (teacher's assistant) for my mom and then go to yoga. Seems like I had an easy semester at first. Nevertheless, that was my feeling until the second semester came. I now have three hard classes in a row. That includes pre-calc and this class, Honor's English III, along with my AP U.S. History. I still TA for my mom and have yoga, but those three hard classes make academics a little
For some people, it may be difficult to manage time in order to keep up with school and still be involved with extracurricular activities. However, for myself, this was not the case. I have been involved in the Slippery Rock University Winter Guard since my freshman year, which requires much dedication and commitment. Competing in local and even international level competitions across the country, the dedication required for membership in the guard is extraordinary. My commitment to the winter guard as well as my determination in my studies has allowed me to prime my time management skills to be successful in both areas without compromising the quality of my efforts in either one. Moreover, I have also been involved in numerous volunteer opportunities including Special Olympics, therapeutic horseback riding, and sled hockey. I also have a job at the Student Health Center. Although I keep myself very busy, I have managed to maintain an overall GPA of 3.5. Through my shadowing experiences in physical therapy, I have seen that some days can be fast-paced; therefore, it is important to have the ability to manage time in order to accomplish everything effectively and
When I came to US in 2009, the job market was in the edge of collapse. It was hard to find a job. The economy was not doing well, most people were getting laid off. Moreover, I was not expecting to find a job, because I did not have a work experience and language skill for employers to hire me. I did not have the expectations or assumption that I will find a job, however, one afternoon the agency who were helping me finding a job called me and told me that they found me a job. I had no idea what I should in the first day of work so I try to look helpful as much as I can. The next day I get to know what the job is all about, and they make me operate a molding machine that makes gasket for automobile.
A survey from Citigroup finds that almost eighty percent of high school students take part in a part time job. Students do not have careers in their jobs through high school, but jobs that can keep money in their pockets. The decision is left up to the students if he/she wants to work and attend school simultaneously; the decision should not be left up to the parents/guardians. Although the decision should not be left up to the parents/guardians, getting a job should be encouraged to high school students. Having a job introduces students to the real world and transforms students into responsible young adults. Nothing can teach young adults responsibility and management like the experience of having a job throughout high school. Since I am
Students who are becoming freshmen often ask “what’s it like to be in high school?” High school is not what you think. Freshmen don’t get pushed in lockers, there's not that one popular girl who shoves other students books out of their hands, and the cafeteria is not the most embarrassing place to be. High school is not an amicable. If you really think high school is a amicable place where students smile at each other, think again. Here is some advice from my high school experience.
Working while in high school allows students to earn money and gain experience; it may also have a negative effect on grades and a student’s social life. Whether it is for preparation or pleasure, most working students save, spend, or support their families. Working during high school helps students become more self-reliant as they realize the benefits of working. Furthermore, working while in high school builds the student’s interest in the career they want to pursue. There are many benefits to a student working while in high school, but work needs to be balanced with a student’s social life and studies to be beneficial.
Even though I dropped out of high school, I never told my mother. Trying to cover my truancy, I got a full-time job which I despised. My manager was very arrogant and very condescending when he spoke. The customers were rude, the manager was pompous, so I quit because I could not bear being disrespected by people who were irrelevant to me. I knew my life was on a
