Occasionally, I sit back and think what if I hadn’t dropped out of high school. What if I had not joined the Army? What if that What if this. I was compelled to tell myself for every wrong turn, I made; it was my way to succeed in making the right turn. Life hurls a curve ball, and you have to maneuver yourself to catch it. With an unyielding mind and determination; the wrong turn can be the right one However, it is the way we were supposed to follow that curve ball with the anticipation of will I catch it, or will I drop it. Going back to school to obtain a degree will improve my quality of life, strengthen my self-esteem, and grant me knowledge to obtain exceptional opportunities. Higher education can only improve my quality of
The Thurston High School shooting took place on May 21, 1998 by Kipland Kinkel at the age of 15. He killed many during the shooting, not knowing if what he did was clearly thought out. He grew up in a family that seemed to be very happy, but that was not how he was feeling inside when all he felt was sadness. He received weapons as a gift and hung around with people that had a bad influence on him. Even though he had a depressive disorder and knowing that his head wasn’t working right, it was not a good enough excuse for the crime that he committed.
Throughout history, crime has always plagued the world. People in positions of power and/or the government has tried to control these issues by implementing new policies and making new laws. Despite the attempts, many people in the world reject it, thereby, committing crimes. In the past, some crimes were not regarded as significant problems unlike, how they are perceived in this day-and-age. An example of this would be taking weapons on board an aircraft. In the past, it was still illegal to bring weapons on your flight, yet, people were not as anal about it. After 9-11, when the War on Terrorism started, TSA became the “Fort Knox” of all security checks. You now need to go through body scanners, metal detectors, and sometimes are forced to be pat down. Trying
“The planet does not need more successful people. The planet needs more peacemakers, healers, restores, story tellers and lovers of all kind.” ~ Dalai Lama
Violent crime has risen 20% over the last decade, there are may reasons why, such as the great recession, the increase of narcotic use, the break down of the family unit, or a dozen other reasons. However, the debate on how we as a society deal with violent crime is also debatable, many would say that we need more prisons, law enforcement officers, or longer prison terms. However, there are the others who are more tolerant, and would have you believe that violent crime in not on the increase, moreover, would suggest that the system is broke and the prisons should open the gates and let out all non violent offenders out. Society is violent, and this fact is evident in the amount of homicidal acts that take place every day, for example, a day
A shooting Monotory High School scares us all. With a sad 3 dead and 12 wounded students Monotory High is under investigation on why the shooter did what he did. The families of the high schoolers that were shot and killed have been notified and are not taking it well. Two of the three parents are concerned for the students that were at the high school with them because they don't want the other parents to go through what they had. The three high schoolers that were shot dead are Rose White, Joanne Green, and Eddie Davidson. Rose and Joanne have been 15 years old and only a sophomore. Eddie was 16 and a Junior. "Eddie, Rose and Joanne were best friends since 5th grade" we were told by the parents of the three. They said that they were all very
Major events have crafted the United States and other nations into what they are today. Going from world wars in the 1940’s, to civil rights movements in the 1960’s, to extravagant national debt today, have all played a part in shaping our nation. Being from rural Mississippi, world news being made here is uncommon. We see all of our major news from televisions or newspapers, and this “news” is all happening elsewhere, far from here. Whether it is a good thing that we do not make the big news or not, the fear of uncertain events still lingers. From shootings in schools to bombings in cities, we are fortunate for being seemingly far from these dangers. Even though no physical effects pertain to me, mental pain and fear stays and leaves doubt

A 17-year-old youth is facing 4 counts of first-degree murder in court, following a mass shooting in Northern Canada.
Do you think that the parents of the children that start school shootings be charged? Do you think that they deserve to be punished for what their kids have done? Do you think that the parents should be hurt for something that their kids have done that they may or may not have known what the kids were doing? Lack of funding and resources, many discipline problems arise when students are disengaged and do not have support services to help them persist in their educational pursuits. Lack of textbooks, inexperienced teachers, and non-existent counseling and special education services all contribute to delinquency and high dropout rates. Alternative school environments,In some public school districts, children that have been disciplined are remanded
On Tuesday morning, a 15 year old male student of Marshall County High School in Benton, Kentucky opened fire on his fellow students. At approximately 8 a.m. the teenager armed with a handgun began firing immediately; the school shooting left two dead and eighteen others injured before the suspect was apprehended by police at the school. The two individuals that died included Bailey Holt and Preston Cope. Holt died on the scene while Cope died shortly after arriving at the hospital. The students name has yet to be released due to the fact that he is a minor. The police commissioner, Richard Sanders, stated that the suspect is being charged with two counts of murder and various counts of attempted murder. There is a possibility that the suspect
The gun control debate has resurfaced with a vengeance in the wake of the shooting at a school in Florida that left 17 dead. Nikolas Cruz entered the freshmen building right before dismissal at around 2:19p.m. He was carrying an AR-15 in a case. Cruz shot students in teachers who were in the hallways and in classrooms on the first and second floors. Eventually, Cruz left his vest, magazines, and gun in a staircase and camouflaged himself among other fleeing students. After making it out of the school, Cruz walked to Walmart and bought a drink at the Subway there. He was apprehended walking down the street just a few miles from the school. He was arrested and taken to a hospital. Cruz was then released into police custody.
School shootings are a tragedy, it’s just about impossible to say it’s not. Children are one of our most valuable resources as they are the future of this country and this world and we put so much time and energy into them it would make sense to keep them safe. The thing I don’t understand is why we protect our president with guns, our congressmen with guns, celebrities with guns, sporting events with guns, jewelry stores with guns, and yet we protect our kids with a gun free zone sign. And then when there is an emergency we call someone with a gun to solve the issue. What scares me and I think everyone needs to be aware of is that according to School Guard, a company that is specializing in technology to help reduce response time to school
In the wake of two recent shootings, one that left 17 dead in a Florida high school and shooting at Central Michigan that killed two,the debate over gun control is once again at the forefront of our country. When I flash back to the deadly Valentine's Day shooting, I think about my immediate reaction after watching the live coverage for an hour.
Well this will be the last paper I write to you for Philosophy. For this letter I shall write to you about a social movement concerning a social problem in today's society, and by the time you read this hopefully the issue is resolved. One of the biggest social issues today is gun control, and the reason I am talking to you about this issue is because of the high school shooting in Parkland, Florida. This is a huge issue because it repeatedly happens, yet nothing is done about it which is why I am passionate about this issue. I will remind you the details around the school shooting, and problems surrounding this issue. I will also talk about the non-violent resistance that is being used by the Parkland survivors to solve the problem. Since I learned a couple of ethical theories in my philosophy class, I will also discuss why and how this event/issue violates or how it’s part of an ethical life in Kant’s, Mill’s, and Aristotle’s theory.
We know that people have a problem not only familiar but with friendships. We understand that people have different thoughts and that they get to do things that are not common. For example; murder, bullying and even having an attitude of mastery of the situation against the person. People who act aggressively are better off getting psychological help. However, the shooting event at school is caused by male adolescents and adults. The anguish that this causes is not small, the parents of the survivors of a shooting in the school tend to be afraid to let their son go to school and be the victim of a murderer. I think he should see more caution in school and he has alarm to detect mental. It is very difficult because you will never know the day
