You are sitting at home watching a tense basketball game on television. Thousands of people are screaming at the top of their lungs as a player from your home team dribbles up the court. There are only four seconds left, and the home team is down by two. The guard dishes to the center, breaking across the middle. He takes the pass, spins once, and puts up a shot. A defender appears to be draped all over him as the ball hangs in the air forever. The horn sounds, drowning out the referee's whistle. Everyone rises to their feet, their eyes following the trajectory of the spinning ball. A deafening roar explodes as the ball settles into the net. Yes! You instantly see the official has blown his whistle, and you know the player will have a chance
You can be successful in sports by being a good sport. Also by having a good attitude towards others and the referees. Scoring a lot of points is also important too because if you don't score points then your team can't win.
To achieve a goal a team has to work together. I was mad when Liam had to move away from Carter, his best friend, and cousin. I was sad when I moved out my old house that my parents brought me home to when I was born. This has changed me because I used to be jealous of people when they had something I wanted but I have changed. One of many ways this changed me is that I have learned to never give up.
We all can recall our freshmen year, the awkward uncertainty with which we walked the halls, feeling like a foreigner in a place much bigger than what we were used to before entering high school. Some freshmen struggle to keep their heads above water, while some find a sort of lifeboat that gets them through the year. The young ladies of the CHHS Girls Frosh/Soph Basketball Team have been lucky enough to find that lifeline in each other. Oftentimes, the "Frosh/Soph" level of a school sport is seen as a mere stepping stone to bigger and better things. Because of this assumption, we as a student body often fail to praise the successes of our frosh/soph and junior varsity teams. This year, the CHHS Girls Frosh/Soph Basketball Team won league.
High School sports are a big part in the high school experience. Many kids participate in high school sports each year. Some kids do many more sports than others and kids get injured during them. Playing a sport in high school is difficult because you have to worry about school work and family & friends. Also, many people do not make some of the sports team they will try out for and be embarrassed of themselves. Schools should not continue to fund sports because of school work, injuries, and embarrassment.
Students, Brian Harpin and Brent Nelson at Kankakee Kays High School [Illinois], enjoy playing soccer for the their high school team. They like being part of a team and feel they do not need to be the best players. "You have to play the game, give it your best shot, and not give up," says Nelson. Some of Nelson’s teammates let the competition acquire the best of them. "Sometimes when they missed the ball, they took out their anger on other people," he says. Other teammates told them to just play the game and have fun. All students must play competitive sports in school to make sure that they do not become obese, and so they can stay in shape.
Imagine making huge amounts of money for putting the ball in the hoop . Making huge money for running up and down the hardwood and playing offense and defense in a game that last for 48 minutes .Being popular and being looked up to as an inspiring person and well liked by the people .Playing in a stadium in front of thousands of people cheering and booing .
This past week I attended two different camps. The basketball camp was at NC State in North Carolina . NC State is an up-and-coming basketball program in the ACC . My goal is to play basketball at NC State for my college years. This is a very big goal for anyone because NC State is a prominent basketball program. Some say College basketball is something to high of a goal for me and that I should set easier goals but I would be setting myself up for failure if I set goals that are things that I wouldn't like. At camp we would wake up every morning at 7 and go to bed at 11. My body was sore from going to camp the week before but to succeed you have to be willing to outwork others. Some people have skill and talent. Talent is something you are
High school sports are a good pass time for high school kids, it keeps some out of trouble or gets kids out of the house. On the other hand high school sports have gotten very serious, instead of just having fun. It’s turned into if you don’t win then what’s the point, it not for the fun. It’s been drilled into everyone heads that they have to be a really good player and their only way they’re getting into college is through sports. Everyone dream is to play for a division I team, which that’s not a bad goal to have but in reality not every athlete can go division I. High school athletes have this mentality that they have to win all the time or be the best they put a lot of pressure on themselves. Not in all cases but, if someone wants to
By this point of the paper it should be obvious to why these teams are hated. Mentioned by a participant “There's only like 4 good teams in the NBA”. So if your team isn't on the list of super team, they’re most likely not going to make it very far in the season. It is now a fact that “You are not competing for a ring without one (Super-team)”. About 20 teams in the NBA are disregarded because their teams don’t hold as much depth, we all agree since when asked this question on the survey, the only answers received were either the Cavs or the Warriors. From an interview a Milwaukee Bucks fan said “I feel sorry Giannis, guy is legit a monster, but I don’t think he’ll be winning a championship without a couple of more super stars on his team”. Giannis Antetokounmpo, is a future MVP and NBA allstars, 6’11, with a 7’0 wingspan with the biggest hands in the NBA is a “monster”, and is respected due to his potential being only 22 and is projected to be the best player ever. But like the previous year he was swept out the playoffs, due to the face that his team cannot play against the other super teams. He can hold his own during the regular season where they probably meet a couple of times, but once they are placed to play them for almost 7 games; 1 person cannot make the
Less than half. Less than half of those who never participated in sports in school, will go on to get a college degree. On the flip side almost ⅔ of student athletes, nationwide, will get a 4 year college degree. These numbers come from a poll done by the Harris Poll, a Nielsen company, that surveyed thousands of people in the U.S. From the poll, researchers found that former student athletes more regularly graduate college and have a higher average income than those that don’t. However, there is much controversy over these activities because of a recent rise in injuries among athletes. High school sports have been becoming more and more popular as of late and rate of sports related injuries has gone up with it. While we can’t ignore the dangers
Basketball is one of the most known sports in the entire world. A person or persons could play it in almost any country. Some people choose it as a profession to make money, while others just play it for a hobby. It is a go to sport for many people to relieve stress. However, basketball is not the easiest sport at all. It takes a lot of heart, dedication, and practice to become as great as the athletes we see today, such as LeBron James or Michael Jordan. There are three parts a person must know how to do in order to be able to play this includes dribbling, shooting, and running.
What if children wanted to be in an activity that they were at constant risk of serious injury, distracts them from their school work, and deprives a school of their much needed funding. This activity is high school sports. Every year, tens of thousands of dollars are put into America’s obsession of high school athletics teams. Kids need to be doing other activities besides school sports because they are costly, have a high risk of injury, and there are plenty of other activities that teach the same fundamental skills that most argue sports are important for.
A recent study shows that more than 7.6 million students in 2010-2011 played high school sports during the school year. US News estimates about 55.5% of high school students participate in a sport. With this in mind, one would think that there are no problems involving high school sports. When in fact, the are many problems with high school sports that aren’t apparent to everyone. Some of these problems include; politics, money, and consideration.
Sport teams are a big part of Life School's pride. There are many talented athletes here, and I thought it would be a good idea to get their perspective on how everything is going.
There are 3 seconds left on the clock, the ball is passed to the person outside the 3-point line, they shoot right as the buzzer goes off, while the ball is flying through the air to the hoop. In this moment everyone is holding their breath to see who the winner is, and then the shot is made, the Jaguars won. It was a hard, well-played game between both teams. In Intramural Basketball, most people associate it with just hanging around with other people who want to shoot some hoops. This is not the case because many who play Intramural Basketball have high hopes of becoming the champion of the league. Intramural Basketball is very competitive, and those who play in are not there to hang around with other people but rather to win the league and be known as the team to beat. As I have studied an Intramural Basketball team that my roommate plays on, I saw just how badly they want to win, and it was in the way they played. Intramural Basketball is the basketball league at BYU-Idaho, that allows students who enjoy playing basketball to keep playing and competing against other teams. As I looked further into this team, I saw that they fit the criteria of a discourse community, which is people who enjoy doing the same hobbies coming together to practice to get better or to play just for fun. Ann Johns developed this idea, and formed six different questions that create the criteria. These questions explore the importance of communication, genre, and the different lexis that they
