My high school days have been spent at a STEM focused school, where I have worked to get my associate's degree alongside my high school diploma. I've worked my hardest to succeed, often resulting in a loss of sleep, and having to give up many extra curricular activities. Through these years I've learned that my passions are encompassed mainly in fine arts. Music is a big part of my life and is a passion of mine. I have been learning the piano since I was little and later added violin to the mix. I found my passion for musical theater a couple years later, and began to immerse myself in the various aspects of it. Art, of various forms, has been squished into both my junior high and high school schedules throughout the years. I have enjoyed
My whole life I have been invested in doing what I love, focusing on my true passions, as well as finding new ones. I have been very involved in my high school, and have been lucky enough to be a part of multiple clubs and activities. Without these activities, my high school experience and life would be a lot different. I have been an active drama club member, a part of ‘Bottlecappers,’ a club advocating anti-drug, alcohol, and bullying to younger students in my district, and many other community service opportunities. I am lucky to have the opportunity to be in these activities, as they have shaped me to be the young adult I am today.
My interests and passions supplement my education in high school in a variety of ways. Show choir, musicals, plays, chorus, band, jazz band, and so much more allowed me to use my creativity everyday in multiple ways. All of these arts opportunities added to the excitement of coming to school, which naturally helped me succeed in my academic pursuits. Not only do I enjoy high school, but many weekend days have been spent waiting to go back to school so that I can sing again, or play my trumpet again, or just learn something really interesting.
The College of Southern Maryland represents an amazing opportunity for me in terms of pursuing my future career choices. Since I have decided to major in Nursing I will be petitioning to be entered for the spring of 2017. CSM reflects the chance for me to begin my college experience without having to go into debt for my first two and a half years of school. Academically CSM will keep me on track in terms of where I need to be for my program of choice. As well as allowing me to get in depth help and tutoring if need be.
Although I was born in Georgia, I feel that something that will be challenging for me is to adjust to a new college life again. I grew up in a southern town very different from where I went to college. When I go home, I do not identify Georgia as my home any longer because I have grown so much while in college. My undergraduate education was done at New York University and although the city was an amazing experience, it also makes the students grow up faster than other universities. NYU is engrossed in one of the most diverse and overwhelming cities in the United States.
Seeking experience in music, I spent over half of my high school career invested in fine arts programs such as AP Music Theory, Patriot (honors) Guitar, and Advanced Chorus. The music community was all but uninviting and blossomed into a society I wanted to continuously take part in for as long as I could.
Excelling in everything I do is a goal that I strive for no matter what it is I’m doing. I have worked so hard for everything I’ve achieved throughout my four years of high school, and have been accepted into the Naval Academy Preparatory School because of that determination. Being one step closer to an appointment to the United States Naval Academy has not only kept my eye on the prize, but has also pushed me harder to keep doing my absolute best.
Remember elementary school? Back in the good old days when your parents thought you were the next Picasso because you could smear a few different crayons together to make a glob of colors? Or when you learned how to play chopsticks on the piano and you were the next Mozart? My parents were just like the rest of the world obsessing that me or my brother were “special” or “gifted” until we turned out to be just average.
Many skills I possess lies in being flexible and timely. I have been class president for both my sophomore and junior years of high school and although I love instigating and spearheading projects , I find my talents are best served in brainstorming ideas in groups and efficiently executing task that are given to me. Along with being an excellent team player , I am proficient in common Microsoft applications, enjoy giving presentations, and am very friendly and outgoing. In a creative space, where innovation and new ideas are welcome, I would truly be an asset as I find much of my growth comes from bouncing ideas off of others.
When I was in middle school, I became part of a decent drama club.I’d always had a fascination with acting, which I previously channeled through the debate club. We didn’t have an actual theatre to perform in, but the music room we did use had great acoustics, so we managed to perform two shows a year. The sets might have been fake, but the energy our club put in was genuine. It was from that club that my love for theatre bloomed. In the eighth grade, a teacher told me about a high school that added three extra hours just for fine arts.
First year, nice and confident into getting ready to take high school on by starting with a positive outlook into the future. Being a freshman, it was necessary to take Physical education your first year in so I did. Everything was all going all right until the football unit came in. I have a tendency to take competition in everything and sometimes to a fault. When you have a class of freshman you are about to bond to have them be competitive in games, and that is exactly what happened during an exhibition game of football. I wanted to win against a JV football player and he got the best of me by tackling me while I was in an awkward position. This lead to me getting an ACL tear in my right leg, which lead to surgery, depression, and lacking the motivation to do anything.
In my four years of high school I have become involved in many different clubs and organizations. These different organizations led me to new leadership opportunities. One of my goals as a leader was to improve the student involvement and school spirit at South Barber. My senior year I decided to take the initiative and fulfill my goal. This year I have organized a Back-to-School Bash, involving grades ninth through twelfth, which created a positive atmosphere to start the school year. I have also organized spirit week competitions, rewarded the classes who participated in spirit week, decorated the hallways the week of homecoming, and suggested to bring back the tradition of decorating shopping carts for the basketball homecoming pep rally. These activities increased both
Junior year, perhaps the most important year in highschool, aside from senior year. It's the period in which your suppose to feel the most relaxed social wise as you by now have established a group a friends and get comfortable branching out with all of yours peers, It is also the year in which your academics matter the most. In other words the most stressful and difficult year yet. All these expectations of this year have definitely been a reality to me. I'm definitely not stressing out on what crowd I belong to and who I should and shouldn’t hang out with. I have definitely felt the pressure of all my classes and having to keep up with all of them. From my two AP classes to taking a third year of chinese. I have tried to seek out more opportunities that will set me apart from other students as colleges look for the individual when alling. In my efforts of that I took part in the Los Angeles World Affairs Council meeting with the California senator , Adam Schiff in which I grew both as global
Going back to school is a major decision that I’ve made. I have given it plenty of thoughts, do some research about the schools and soul searching. I took a great deal of consideration to my age and understand the impact it will do with my life, my family’s life. I list down the sacrifices I need to sort out to give my 100 percent to pull through this course. I choose to be a nurse not for a job, but more of a calling. I’ve worked in different jobs, but the hunger of being a nurse is always there. Now I’m currently studying “Access to Nursing” to give myself the required points that I need to proceed to study at your university
What is the most difficult thing for one to do? This answer varies from person to person. However, for me the answer is facing my fears. I had to do this my junior year of high school when I decided to transfer to a new high school. My biggest fear at the time was being in new situations and new places. It made me anxious to be in a situation or place I was not comfortable with. This fear was keeping me from new opportunities and experiences in my life. Then one day I heard about a school on Austin Peay’s campus called Middle College at Austin Peay State University. It was a school for juniors and seniors who wanted a head start on college. When I heard about it, I knew I had to get into Middle College. The only problem was
As the only junior in my accounting class, I stood out more than the other students. Not only because I was a junior, but because I am an extremely motivated and driven student. Unlike the other students in my class, I felt a rush run through my body as my assets and liabilities equaled out to my owner’s equity. Whenever I finished a spreadsheet I didn’t feel as if all I received was an A on the assignment, I received much more than that- a piece of myself. Surely you receive many letters a day stating the same opinion on how they'll proudly represent your university and how they are an extremely motivated and driven student.
