The Time Machine
The Time Machine is a social critique of Victorian England by H.G. Wells, wrote with the future in mind. Wells was a socialist who most supported Communists theories and applications. In all his works, both non-fiction and novels, he looked at capitalism and argued that it was one of the greatest ills that the modern society was facing and would probably continue to face many years later. The advent of technology, capital mechanism, and education paved the way for the Industrial Revolution between the 17th and 18th Centuries, and the effects were felt up to the end of the 19th century. The Time Traveler depicted in The Time Machine was leading in economic power. The industrialists by that time were still laboring for long hours in smoke-filled and dirty factories, with meager earnings (Taunton n.p).

The concept is well symbolized by Wells (37), where the time traveler is observant of this fact. He could not understand why the Morlocks “had taken my time machine” and this was the “genesis of the troublesome doubts.” He also could not demystify who the Eloi “could not restore the machine to me.” This is the law of a capitalist system, where one group must have power over another group (Taunton n.p.).
The Time Machine is a science fiction that seeks to warn society about the effects of a capitalist system that were becoming more pronounced towards the end of the nineteenth century. As Marx puts it, freedom is an elusive concept. Individuals are motivated by their selfish interests geared economically, well illustrated by the resulting revolt that will be experienced when the Morlocks have had enough of their enslaving
