Helga decided to go on the trip with her 18year-old daughter Clara, which was a partial relieve for the family worries. At least Helga would not be traveling alone and Clara was dependable. Helga and the sponsor in New York agreed to a contract stipulating that if Helga and Clara successfully reached their destination in time, they would receive $10,000 enough to save the farm and be wealthy. Signing the contract, Helga agreed not to beg along the way but to work for food, lodging, and clothing. It is unclear who the sponsoring party was, but Helga several times spoke of a connection made through the help of an East Coast acquaintance. They started the journey carrying a compass, a revolver, a map, a pepper gun, a knife, a notebook and
To begin with, Chris had a clear idea of what he wanted to do and where he wanted to go. While hiking on various trails he brought along a book on leaves and berries that he could eat, a rifle for hunting, a compact tent, and
To make preparations for the trip, the two captains had to buy a grand array of things in Philadelphia. His shopping list included scientific instruments such as a chronometer and a sextant, an air rifle, arms and ammunition, medicines, ink and other materials for journal keeping, and a large array of other items, including 193 pounds of portable soup, a corn mill, mosquito netting, blankets, oiled linen for making tents, candles, tools, and reference
to find the new world and their first encounter with the natives that live on the island they landed on.
Much of the new technology that they brought over, however, was borrowed from various people and cultures along their travels. Some of these new technologies include the compass, which they used to figure out which direction they were travelling, and the astrolabe, which aided the sailors in trying to find out how far north or south they were from the equator. Another borrowed technology that greatly benefitted the Europeans on their travels was cartography; this is the science of map making. This was probably one of the most beneficial discoveries to the Europeans because it allowed them to draw out where they had been and where they were
Fire starting materials are important, as well as a metal pot to boil water in and to prepared food with. A sleeping bag for cold weather, while heavy to carry would be considered an essential item in cold weather, if you had the choice.
Helios was the personification of the sun. He is a Greek Titan, and known as Sol in Roman Mythology. His Hinduism equivalent is Surya. Each and every day Helios would bring up the sun. There are legends and myths that Helios would return to the other side of the flat earth by floating down the Ocean in a golden cup. Some myths claim that Apollo and Helios were the same person. He was also said to see and hear all that happened down on the earth. This is because he could look down and witness events and oaths being sworn.
Freyja was also believed to be the most worshipped and loved god/ goddess of all in Norse mythology. Freyja was ridden around in a chariot pulled by cats. Freyja married a god called Ord and when he left on long journeys she would cry tears made of gold. She had two daughters named Hnoss and Gersemi. Freyja was the collector of half dead souls, a priestess and also taught Odin the magic arts. Freyja’s name means the lady, and Friday is named after her.
There journey was difficult because they had to travel over both land and water plus there where no roads during that time.
The Things They Carried was written about soldiers who served during the Vietnam War, explaining the effect it had on some of the men, as well as a look into the weapons that were used and the personal items carried by the men. The first chapter of the novel goes into great detail about the things that were carried by the men, giving individual examples, such as pantyhose, and also objects, like weapons, that every man had to carry with him. Tim O’Brien’s descriptions of the weapons that were carried helped enormously in shaping the body of the soldier in the image. The
3) The Compass: Before the invention of the compass, traveling long distances by ship was impossible. Sailors had to use the stars as means of navigation, which is obviously impossible by day or even on a cloudy night.
In elementary school I heard the phrase like a girl used every day. On the playground it was you run like a girl. I did not understand what like a girl meant at that point I thought it was a compliment. I ran like a girl. I ran fast and far and as long as I can. So thank you. However in middle school I started to realize like a girl is just a way of saying that someone cannot do something. Saying like a girl is a way to make girls feel that they are not as important in the world. Saying like a girl is a way of showing that girls do not have a significant contribution in society.
I find myself, regardless of how assiduous work became this past year, still hearing the rhetoric of politicians, media circles and celebrities. Wondering how citizens can disrespect the office of president a place once revered as the highest honor. One would think the rhetoric would end, but yet it seemed the disrespect continued long after Trump was elected president of the USA. I heard Denzel Washington remark a news reporter about how important their task is to not only report something first, but accurately and honestly.
Last but not least, the third item i would bring is a lifetime supply of food. This is obviously necessary considering the fact that I am a human, and humans need to eat.Contrary to Lord of the Flies, I don’t think i would have the guts to hunt and eat a raw, wild, pig. Just the thought of it grosses me out and like i said before, I’m lazy and wouldn’t go through the trial and error of hunting. And although fruit is pretty good, I can’t imagine eating it all the time. Having my own food supply would allow me to be independent, because I don't have to rely on anyone, any animal, or even nature, for food. Another big reason to have some food with me, is that I could use it as negotiation to get myself rescued a lot more quicker. If a random ship comes by, I could just give them some food if they bring me back home. that would make life easier, and it’s common sense. All these reasons aside, I would obviously need food, so that’s the third thing I’m bringing with me.
I spoke to Juan regarding his role as an assist agent. I explained being an assist agent comes with responsibilities as agents look up to him. He needs to engage with other agents in a professional manner and stay away from gossip. As an assist agent, he should be able to help bring the team together, and in the event of a rumor, he should help stop the rumor rather than engaging.
