Helen Keller was deaf and blind, but learned to overcome obstacles and inspire many. She inspires people to try their hardest at everything they do, and they will go far. She inspires people to believe in miracles and having faith in yourself that you can do whatever you put your mind to. Helen Keller should be in our history books because of her education, successful career, and inspiration to others. Once Helen learns to overcome her obstacles she wants to learn everything that she can. At nineteen months old her parents discovered that she was deaf and blind. They wrote to The Perkins School for the Blind, who sent a graduate, Mrs. Annie Sullivan. Annie helps teach Helen a language that she will understand. One day at the water pump it finally clicks that the signs have meanings. From that day forward Helen was determined to learn as much as she could. Helen attended the Perkins School for the Blind. At the Perkins School for the Blind she learned to read braille, and how to speak. She learned how to speak by touching the reader's mouth while they were talking. Helen learned to speak many different languages. Helen learned to speak French, German, Greek, and Latin. Helen Keller was the first deaf and blind person to receive a college degree, and graduate with honors. She wrote several books about her life and religious beliefs. Helen won an Oscar for a documentary about her life. She also won a Presidential Medal of Freedom. Helen was a speaker for women's rights, and people with disabilities. Helen was a member of the socialist party and wrote several articles that supported socialism. Some criticized her for her socialist views. Helen Keller had a successful career that inspired many that they can overcome any obstacle if they believe in
