The UN forces totaled approximately 550,000 men, which included troops from US, South Korea, France, Philippines and other countries. According to Burnt, “over 253,000 troops were American, 260,000 were South Korean, and 28,000 men came from other countries. While on the other side, the Chinese Communist Forces (CCF) had 250,000 men, and the North Korean People’s Army (NKPA) had about 210,000.” The UN forces outnumbered the Communist forces by about 90,000 men overall, however that difference in manpower would not help the American soldiers at Heartbreak Ridge due to circumstances such as difficulty of the terrain and lack of coordination effort. After taking Bloody Ridge with a very high casualty rate, Gen Van Fleet, the 8th Army commander

The battle had finally swung in favor of the Americans for a brief moment. The amount of casualties the NKPA took is unclear however, the NPKA realized that a frontal attack on the hill in which Task Force Smith sat was not feasible. (Ibid, pg 73) Despite the heavy casualties, the NPKA held their position and waited for reinforcements. When the reinforcements arrived, they were able to flank the depleted Task Force and rout-out the American position with an overwhelming force. Task Force Smith had quickly been over ran and most of the casualties came from the withdraw as the American soldiers were exposed to enemy fire. When the fighting had concluded, the Americans returned with 250 soldiers on the American occupied territory by the end of
“Don’t Fire Till You See the Whites of Their Eyes.” States John Stark while heading off to battle at Bunker Hill. During this time this battle had many causes, leaders, events, and effects that lead to the importance of this battle.
In June of 1839, William Wright opened his door after three men approached his family’s cabin asking if they could stay the night in his home. Upon greeting the men, he was immediately shot and killed as his wife and eldest daughter fled in fear. Soonafter, the group of men murdered four of Wright’s children, stole money from the family, set fire to the cabin, and escaped the gruesome scene they had just created.
Andersonville was a Confederate prison built in 1864 at Andersonville, Georgia. It was designed to hold Union prisoners of war during the Civil War. It was official named was Camp Sumter, however it’s better known as Andersonville. It was built from the ground up by local slave labor. At the time it was 10 ½ acres long and designed to hold about 10,000 men. The camp was enclosed out of 15 to 17 inch hewed pine logs. Along the walls were guard towers (referred to as pigeon roosts by the inmates) placed every 90 feet around the stockade walls.
Did you know that a bake sale raised money to build the Bunker Hill Monument, or that the battle of Bunker hill mostly took place on Breed’s Hill, but it was confused with Bunker Hill. The American Revolutionary war had many Battles one of the battles was the battle of Bunker/Breeds Hill. It was a battle like no other, there are many things one must know about the Battle. The different sides are one of the most important things about the battles and how they struggled through times, like when the british woke up to see a 6 foot wall, and how the Americans felt about their hard work. The Geography is super important, because the battle was on a hill and made the british walk up the very high hill so the Americans had an advantage. There were many important parts of the battle to, like when the American forces found out that the British wanted to take over hills, in Charlestown, Massachusetts.
The year is 1778, the place is Valley Forge in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. George Washington and many other revolutionary soldiers are here. I am one of them. Valley Forge is a Winter Camp that we have built to keep an eye on the British army. When I arrived here in 1777, I was not exactly a perfectly healthy man, and I am far from healthy now. Life here is torture. Everyday I see my friends and fellow soldiers die. I have been here eight whole months with only one more to go. I cannot wait to leave this godforsaken place. But George Washington and an abundance of other soldiers would like me to stay to fight for this soon-to-be country. However, I can not stay here, for it is unbearable. There is not enough food to go around, illness and
could not assault these positions due to foliage and inability to see the trench lines the enemy had
Lt. Colonel Honeycutt, commander of 3/187, ordered two of his companies to the north and northwest ridges of the hill. Bravo company started pushing up the hill while meeting large amounts of North Vietnamese soldiers. Because of the resistance, they called in close air support to aid in moving up the hill. Miscommunication caused the air support to confuse the landing zone for an NVA camp resulting in them opening fire and killing two and injuring thirty-five of their own. Unfortunately, this was the first but not the last friendly fire incident during this battle. The thick vegetation caused for so much miscommunication and inability to properly identify targets. Honeycutt continued to launch assaults against the NVA. Theses assaults would face heavy resistance with many casualties. Lt. Colonel Conmey, commander of the 1st Battalion 506th Infantry regiment shifted his assaults to the southern base of the hill. American pushes were caused to fall short due to the thick vegetation, this also effected the capabilities of the American’s heavy weapons. Those hindrances gave huge advantages to the NVA. Because of all the vegetation, they called in approximately 270 Air Strikes in a ten-day period. These strikes dropped 890 tons of explosives and 115 tons of napalm. These air strikes and napalm eliminated many of the NVA bunkers and trenching system (Hickman,
No other allied operations were as thoroughly planned and coordinated as ours to succeed in capturing Vimy, since the Ridge was so well fortified all attempts to capture it failed ultimately except ours. Canadians soldiers trained exceptionally under the surveillance of Arthur Currie commander of the First Canadian Division. Preparations were complex; to thoroughly understand and prepare for every stage of the warfare a replica of Vimy had been built representing every inch for implementation at the authentic Vimy Ridge on Easter Monday. Most historians accounted that Major-General Currie was tolerant, diligent and had significant faith in his men. The weeks of practice, accumulate of weapons and hard work finally paid off. In a matter of five days the Canadian Corps had captured all of Vimy Ridge. The Icy, snow- covered ridge may have been impregnable for the debilitated but not for a powerful determined nation like the

The 450 men of Colonel Hal Moore's battalion soon learned they landed in the midst of over 2000 North Vietnamese soldiers. Within an hour, Lt. Surrounded by the North Vietnamese, the 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry maintained control of the perimeter so that the Huey helicopters could fly in the remainder of the battalion. The enduring battle continued for three days leaving over 305 American soldiers and dead.
Ridgeway did a lot of research for many years on this subject. During her research she examined how when people are in that awkward circumstances they act or do certain things because of their gender. For example, the way you dress tells people if you’re male or female. Another example is the can be similar to how we perceive peoples race. She came up with the idea of people getting framed into their genders. She also talked about that when we are talking to another individual how we relate similarities with them and differences and how it drives society. Also that social relations to relate to another coordinate our behaviors. Sex, Race, and Age are categories in society that we put ourselves in. it’s strange to think about it, but we generalize
He also disagreed with some governors claiming to bomb North Korea. The US rejected the request of the Nationalist Chinese for the battle because they did not want to trigger communist Chinese aggressiveness. (Rees) However, the first important battle of the Korean War, The Battle of Osan, involved 540 soldier Task Force Smith. This was a small forward element of the 24th Infantry Division, but it was unsuccessful. (Stokesbury) North Korean Army continued the winning streak and pushed back the South Korean Army and the Eight United States Army to Busan where it was southeast of Korea. (Stokesbury) United States base in Japan kept detaching materiel and soldiers to defend Pusan. (Stokesbury) There were also tank battalions directly sent from San Francisco. South Korea could get about 500 medium tanks for the battle by August. (Stokesbury) South Korean Army and United Nation Command forces could exceed 180,000 to 100,000 soldiers by September 1950. They were all prepared by that time and could push up.
Today is the day! I get to visit the Rocky Mountains. I have never seen the Rocky Mountains. Also, I am going on their 100th anniversary. The Rocky Mountains have been there for over 300 million years. In 2015, Rocky Mountain National Park was the third most visited national park with over 4.1 million visitors. I have to get there early because it will be packed. The temperature can drop up to 20 degrees on top of the mountains, so I better bring a jacket.
