Research Methods
This research study is an attempt to increasing the understanding of heart disease through nursing intervention with the hope of attaining better guidelines for the care of patients, families, and communities. The purpose of this chapter is to discuss the research methodology for collecting, analyzing, and presenting data. It will also expound on the assumptions made during the study and limitations of the data collected. Finally, it will give a recap of the study’s findings and recommendations for future research.
Research Design
The research study is a comparative descriptive design. Comparative descriptive study designs are useful for identifying the risk factors that may be associated with a disease condition. When specific

The questionnaires will be correctly labelled to ensure survey data will be correctly linked. Verify that all surveys collected have signed consent forms. Track and analyze data as it comes in. All data will be stored on computer files for easy access and to comply with privacy laws. In conducting of the pilot testing, efforts were made by the researcher to ensure the setting, choice of participants and interview methods were as close as those intended in the main study as possible. Interview the participants on any difficulty they encountered while responding to the questionnaires. Record and analyze their responses for drafting the final questionnaires. This form of data collection and management aims ensure the collection of accurate and reliable …show more content…
The paired t-test is a statistical analysis test used to determine if the mean difference between two sets of data is zero. During the study, each participant will be interviewed twice, creating a before and after situation. The paired t-test will then compare the mean values from two samples (Surkis & Read, 2015). Statistical significance and practical significance are important when interpreting the results. Statistical significance is determined by examining the p-value. The lower the p-value, the lower the probability of the null hypothesis being correct. This reflects the low probability that conclusions were determined by chance. Practical significance depends on the participants refers to the relationship between the data and real life situations. During the data analysis, results can be statistically significant but not practically significant. Both types are required to obtain valuable conclusions.
Assumptions of the Study
Assumptions for this research study are that the participants will answer the interview questions in an honest and candid manner. The inclusion criteria of the sample are appropriate and therefore, assures that the participants have all experienced the same or similar phenomenon of the study. The research assumed that all women had attained an education level that can help them interpret and understand simple texts and phrases. It is for this reason that it included women aged 30 and 55 years
You need to explain to him the s/s of blood clotting (since he may have too low an INR d/t treatment and he needs to know this). Explain that his a-fib puts him at risk for blood clots.
Under the research design section it could have been mentioned that the study was a descriptive correlation design, experimental design, Quasi-experimental design, or a comparative descriptive design which is "used to describe a phenomenon of interest and related variable" (Gray, Grove, & Sutherland,
A research team leader will randomly select eligible participants and divided them into two equal groups, A and B. Group A pre-intervention and Group B post intervention. There are multiple delivery methods available for collection data such as interview (one-on-one, via telephone or in person), focus groups, and observation. The traditional method paper-and-pencil survey whose results are subsequently entered into a software program will be used as well as an online based collection to reducing the cost of data collection and encouraging voluntary participants. The data will be electronically downloaded directly to an Excel spreadsheet for analysis and minimizing data entry error or bias. There will be four different types
A questionnaire is research which involves a number of different questions to gather information from the people who are filling it in. Questionnaires are designed as a way to find out what people are thinking. An advantage of questionnaires is that it is very practical because it is quick to collect information from the people filling out the questionnaire. Another advantage of questionnaires is that the same questions is asked to everyone filling the questionnaire out so easy to sum up. The final advantage to questionnaires is that large information can be collected. There are also some disadvantages to questionnaires which is that there is no way of telling how much though someone who is filling the questionnaire out has put it. Another disadvantage is that the person filling it out may forget what has happened to fill it out so it won’t be reliable. The final disadvantage to questionnaires is that there is no way to tell how truthful a respondent is being.
In addition, the researchers conducted a chart review of each participant 's medical record. In this study the results showed that “compared with men, women used more evasive and supportive coping and rated psychologic aspects of the heart disease as more problematic to manage. More women perceived available support from friends and grandchildren, and more men perceived available support from their partner. Women rated lower levels in physical and psychologic dimensions of quality of life” (Kristofferzon et al., 2005, p. 39).
In this essay, I am going to consider how evidence-based practice can be used to support, justify, legitimate and/or improve clinical practice. I am also going to explore and discuss primary and secondary research evidences about how nursing interventions can potentially improve the quality of life of patients in the community suffering from heart failure. I will gather these evidences using a literature search which I will include an account of. Using a critiquing framework for support, I will appraise both primary and secondary evidences that I have chosen. I will also look at potential non-evidential factors that can influence evidence utilisation in practice. Finally, a conclusion will be drawn.
Heart failure affects nearly 6 million Americans. It is the leading cause of hospitalization in people older than 65. Roughly 550,000 people are diagnosed with heart failure each year (Emory Healthcare, 2014). Heart failure is a pathologic state where the heart cannot pump enough blood to meet the demand of the body’s metabolic needs or when the ventricle’s ability to fill is impaired. It is not a disease, but rather a complex clinical syndrome. The symptoms of heart failure come from pulmonary vascular congestion and inadequate perfusion of the systemic circulation. Individuals experience orthopnea,
Coronary Artery Disease, also known as CAD, is the most common form of heart disease. (Heart and Stroke Foundation, 2009) Coronary Artery Disease obstructs the blood flow in vessels that provides blood to the heart which is caused by the buildup of plaque on the artery walls. (Rogers, 2011, p.87) (Heart and Stroke Foundation, 2009) Plaque is a yellow substance that consists of fat substances, like cholesterol, and narrows or clogs the arteries which prevents blood flow. (Heart and Stroke Foundation, 2009) Plaque can build up in any artery but usually favors large and medium sized arteries. (Heart and Stroke Foundation, 2009)
Heart disease is the number one cause of death in the United States (HealthyPeople.gov website, n.d.). The goal to improve cardiovascular health is early detection, prevention, and treatment of risk factors. The key risk factors for heart disease are high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, diabetes, poor diet, physical inactivity, and obesity. Based on these statistics it is crucial for public nursing to focus on educating people and the communities they live in to
Elderly Heart Failure patients would be the most appropriate researchable population for use in the research project. Firstly, they are the ones suffering the most; hence understanding their problems would be the best approach towards yielding competent results (Fraley & Hudson, 2014). Secondly, both research questions revolve around the challenges facing the patients. In such case, understanding the level of care the population gets would help to know whether or not the nurses are equipped with competent as well as necessary knowledge, attitudes, and skills. Further, data collected from the population would help to implement effective evidence-based techniques for the efficient Transitional Care program for the patients rather than when relying on another population (Fraley & Hudson, 2014).
The research topic is selected, the testable research question is developed, research on the topic is found, the literature review is completed, and a decision is made on the research design. Now, one of the most important steps in the research process to accomplish is the collection of data. Notwithstanding the research project and whether the method of research is whether qualitative or quantitative, data must be collected. Data collection is essential whether the method of choice is a mail survey, a telephone survey, an interview, an experiment, field research, or secondary data analysis. Data collection is an important aspect of any research study. Inaccurate data can impact the results of a study and ultimately lead to invalid results. During the data collection step, a significant amount of time, energy and attention are required. In order to ensure the data collection process is valid and successful, one should adhere to the four steps involved: (1) the construction of a collection data form which is used to organize all data that is collected; (2) the designation of the coding strategy used to represent data on a data collection form; (3) the collection of the actual data; and (4) entry into the data collection form (Salkind, 2012).
The module presented by Professor Beckie was aimed in preparing nursing students to provide appropriate, evidence based care to older adult with heart disease. I learnt the face of heart disease is changing and more American die from heart disease than any other diseases combined. And also women are twice to die from heart disease than men. I also learned how to use motivational interviewing techniques which will promote collaborative of care. Genetic and environmental factors that contribute to heart diseases such as family history, hypertension, diet, smoking, obesity, and also psychosocial factors such as stress and depression. She talked about management of heart disease which include lifestyle modifications and how to modify the patient
This paper will address and evaluate the research problem itself, the design of the study, the sample, how the data is collected, its limitations, and its findings. Furthermore, how does this study impact the overall nursing process?
For the purpose of this study, the researcher intends to use a cross-sectional research design where all the data will be collected at the same time. The distribution of the research questionnaires will take place over a time period of two weeks where the main data will be collected from the respondents.
A sample questionnaire was used to perform the primary research needed for this project. This questionnaire, with a
