For this assignment we needed to compute the mean, median, and mode for five quantitative variables. The five that were computed in this assignment were number of total prior arrests, number of prior misdemeanors, number of total prior convictions, number of prior felony arrests, and number of drug convictions. The mean is defined as the average in a group of numbers, the median is the middle number in a group, and the mode is the most frequently occurring number in the group.
Baseball statistics are meant to be a representation of a player’s talent. Since baseball’s inception around the mid-19th century, statistics have been used to interpret the talent level of any given player, however, the statistics that have been traditionally used to define talent are often times misleading. At a fundamental level, baseball, like any game, is about winning. To win games, teams have to score runs; to score runs, players have to get on base any way they can. All the while, the pitcher and the defense are supposed to prevent runs from scoring. As simplistic as this view sounds, the statistics being used to evaluate individual players were extremely flawed. In an attempt to develop more

Batting average was the norm adopted by other baseball teams. But training for Oakland was focused on the player’s ability to obtain on-base scoring. The team relied more on selecting players by their on-base percentages. According to Sabermetrics model, teams always win with players having attained high on-base percentages.
Upon beginning this project, our team hoped to discover which batting statistics resulted in higher salary for players. Knowing this we could
In Nella Larsen’s Passing and Patricia Highsmith’s The Talented Mr. Ripley, both novels make multiple references to fire and fire-related objects throughout the story. Both Irene Redfield in Passing and Tom Ripley in The Talented Mr. Ripley are characters who are desperately trying to control their fluid lives. For Irene, she is trying to control the changes to her own thoughts and emotions that her former friend, Clare Kendry, brings. For Tom, he is trying to control the narrative of his life to fit his fantasies, which leads him to killing his friend Dickie Greenleaf and assuming his identity.

The misunderstood subculture of music that many have come to know as “hip-hop” is given a critical examination by James McBride in his essay Hip-Hop Planet. McBride provides the reader with direct insight into the influence that hip-hop music has played in his life, as well as the lives of the American society. From the capitalist freedom that hip-hop music embodies to the disjointed families that plague this country, McBride explains that hip-hop music has a place for everyone. The implications that he presents in this essay about hip-hop music suggest that this movement symbolizes and encapsulates the struggle of various individual on
Inflation is the sustained increase in the general level of prices for goods and services in a county, and is measured as an annual percentage change. (Investopedia) During periods of inflation, the prices of products and services will rise. There are several reasons why an economy would see a rise in inflation. Decrease in supplies, corporate deciding to charge more, and consumer confidence are some of the reasons why an economy would see the inflation rate increase. Consumer confidence is when consumers gain more confidence in spending due to a low unemployment rate and wages being stable. Decrease in supplies is when consumers are willing to pay more for a product or service is that is slowly becoming unavailable due to a decrease in supplies. Corporate decisions are when the corporations basically decide

Quantifying the importance that a player has to his team can help us determine whether he was valuable based on his given role. It is self-evident that two players worth 1 WAR were both as valuable as each other in absolute terms. But if one player was a full-time shortstop and the other was a platoon left-fielder with 150 at-bats then it is likely that the shortstop was important to the club (because he had more playing time) and that the platoon left-fielder produced more value given his limited playing time. It is
Inflation is defined as a sustained increase in the general level of prices for goods and services [1]. It is measured as an annual percentage increase. When there is an inflation, the same amount of money buys a smaller percentage of a good or service compared to previous years. This means the value of money drops when inflation occurs. In economics, the value of money is viewed in terms of purchasing power, which is the real, tangible goods that can be bought by money. When inflation goes up, there is a decline in the purchasing power of money. For example, if the inflation rate is 3%, then theoretically a 1£ bottle of water will cost 1.03£ in the following year. After inflation, the same amount of money could not buy the same amount of goods it could beforehand.
